Your introductory course to the Carolina Panthers inaugural 2019 draft."Are you an amateur scout Blue Torrey Smith Jersey , Panthers fanatic, mock draft maverick, or person who is bored at work? If so then this is the place for you. Consider this the starting syllabus for your introductory course on the Carolina Panthers in the context of the 2019 NFL Draft. This course will cover the picks, the needs, the compensatory injustice, and more. The 2019 draft picksFirst, let’s start with their picks. You should familiarize yourself with these picks and their relative value as per the definitely not outdated draft trade chart. You can trust the chart because it is older than almost everything you own.The following selections in the 2019 NFL draft are the only real resources the Panthers have in April and they will represent the very future of the franchise. Their power and consequence cannot be understated. The Carolina Panthers currently hold seven picks. They are Nos. 16, 47, 77, 100, 115, 154 Torrey Smith Jersey 2019 , and 187 overall. That is one pick in each of the first and second rounds and two in the third for four overall picks in the top 100. All seven of their picks are in the top 200, which is not a standard anybody uses to judge, or even pre-judge, draft quality. Every NFL hall of famer who was drafted was probably drafted in the top 200 picks. I’m not sure about that, but it sounds right. The rest of them were probably those plucky undrafted free agent types that the Panthers will have a shot at by virtue of having an unlimited ability to sign —if we ignore cap space and contract limits. Essentially, the Panthers will have a chance to draft or sign every future hall of famer to come out of the 2019 rookie class. The No. 100 overall pick, the Panthers’s second in the third round, is a compensatory pick. These picks are more valuable than regular picks because they were only announced recently, even though they were already expected. That means something? The term compensatory means that these picks were awarded as a means of replacement for something that a team lost. In the Panthers case, this pick comes from letting Andrew Norwell, a former undrafted free agent, walk in free agency. The philosophy of compensating teams for bad decisions is how the NFL promotes ‘parity’ or balanced competition between teams. The league’s unwavering commitment towards parity is why the New England Patriots have been in eight straight AFC Championship games Blue Shaq Thompson Jersey , not to mention 14 of the last 18, you have such balanced and exciting seasons year to year. The Panthers’ needs in the 2019 NFL DraftSurprise, we already spent a whole week on this! The articles linked below are the Cat Scratch Reader staff’s opinions on the Panther’s top needs entering the 2019 NFL draft.Personally, I thought the biggest need the Panthers face in 2019 is at defensive end. This is on account of the fact that they don’t really have any and also the fact that everybody really needs them in the modern NFL.Meanwhile, our esteemed Managing Editor, Bradley Smith, made a convincing argument for offensive tackle as the biggest need the Panthers have to address in the draft this year. This team lives and dies by Cam Newton’s success, keeping him upright is an absolute priority. Then there was the guy we let run our Twitter handle. Brian Beversluis made an argument for safety as the biggest need before the team re-signed Eric Reid. It’s still worth a read anyway.Final gradingAll film studies, mock drafts, and dire prognostications will be due no later than Sunday, April 28th, 2019. This is the day after the last round of the 2019 NFL Draft. The performance of and evaluation of prospects are considered as completely separate and only related entities in one direction with regards to grading purposes. That direction is from performance towards evaluation. As such Shaq Thompson Jersey 2019 , a great prospect can receive a great grade only if they perform well and a poor prospect can receive a great grade if they can be proved to perform at a commensurate level with a great grade in future seasons. Note that all draft grades are not final and will be subject to change as the careers of players and the whims of instructors change. This may result in your, the student’s, retroactive failing of this course. Please also note that instructors are not responsible for draft day trades and will automatically fail any mock drafts that use them, regardless of ultimate accuracy. The day will be dedicated to completing 25 service projects across the Carolinas."Carolina Panthers owner David Tepper has announced a new initiative- Keep Pounding Day, per Jourdan Rodrigue of the Charlotte Observer. This is awesome for a number of reasons. The date was chosen to honor Sam Mills, who is responsible for making ‘Keep Pounding’ the mantra of the Carolina Panthers while also embodying its message. It’s amazing that David Tepper is so aware of the team’s culture and history despite being new to the organization. Props to him for doing his research and listening to the people in the know. And of course, it’s always cool to see the Panthers doing good in the community. Keep Pounding Day will add to the growing list of Keep Pounding initiatives already run by the organization. The fact that the service projects span both of the Carolinas deepens the ‘Two States, One Team’ slogan that the Panthers have been pushing in recent years. It’s clear Tepper is serious about that.

The tentative deal that will send quarterback Joe Flacco from Baltimore to Denver is hardly the first trade that was negotiated to agreement before the agreement could be officially executed. Like every one of those trades White Tony Jefferson Jersey , however, the deal isn’t done until it’s done.Which means that either the Ravens or the Broncos can back out of the deal, with no consequence — other than impairing relationships and/or undermining the ability of the team that reneges to do similar deals in the future. At the risk of angering Ravens fans and setting myself up for claims that I’ve conjured a jinx, what if Lamar Jackson suffers a freak injury between now and March 13? Would the Ravens at that point say Tony Jefferson Jersey 2019 , “Sorry, Broncos, we need him now”?They could. And the Broncos would be upset. As upset as the Ravens were in 2011, when a draft-day trade with the Bears fell through because the Bears didn’t communicate the trade to the league office. The Bears said it was an accident; Ravens coach John Harbaugh believed otherwise White Maxx Williams Jersey , claiming that they did it on purpose. Then there’s the failed Browns-Bengals trade involving A.J. McCarron. The Browns supposedly failed to timely communicate the trade by accident; some believe that former Browns executive Sashi Brown intentionally slow played the procedures because he didn’t want McCarron. If the Flacco deal craters, the team on the wrong end of the cratering will have to deal with it. Although that team can indeed huff and puff, the NFL won’t be blowing anyone’s house down because the NFL never regards a trade as final until: (1) the window for doing deals is open; and (2) both sides inform the league that a deal has occurred. The Browns took a step toward contention this season, going 7-8-1 a year after not winning a game. They won five of their last seven games and went 3-2-1 in the division. The Browns expect even more next season.鈥淲e know what’s ahead Maxx Williams Jersey 2019 ,鈥欌€?Browns defensive back Damarious Randall said, via Mary Kay Cabot of the . “The NFL knows it鈥檚 in trouble; the AFC North knows it鈥檚 in trouble. We expect to win the AFC North next year; we expect to win a lot of games next year; and we’ve just got to get back to the drawing board and get some rest and get back to work.鈥欌€橳he Browns haven’t finished with a winning record since 2007, haven’t made the postseason since 2002 and haven’t won a playoff game since 1994, which was five years before the Browns returned as an expansion team. The Browns served notice this season White Earl Thomas Jersey , though, that they are not the same ol’ Browns.鈥淲e鈥檙e a force to be reckoned with,鈥欌€?Randall said. 鈥淎t the end of the day, the AFC North is going to come through Cleveland from here on out Earl Thomas Jersey 2019 , and I鈥檓 just kind of looking forward to it. The future is bright here.鈥欌€橳he next step is finding a head coach who can fulfill the team’s expectations.

The Stone Mountain native also will be watching the draft from home."Just a week ago Womens Takkarist McKinley Jersey , most everyone was talking about Montez Sweat as a first round pick. Heck, there was a widespread expectation that he’d go in the first ten picks of the draft, possibly ahead of our own Eric Robinson’s favorite Brian Burns. Either that’s changed or teams are trying to get a bargain, and either way, Sweat is dealing with an enlarged heart. The likes of Gaines Adams, the former Buccaneer who died of a heart attack due to his condition, and Nick Fairley, who enjoyed a strong career, have also dealt with enlarged heart. It’s the kind of condition that puts teams on high alert, because it has to be managed and there is obviously the potential for it to be fatal, however remote that possibility may be. I think there will still be teams who take the Stone Mountain native in the first round, but there are also teams who have reportedly taken him off their boards entirely, and I would not be at all surprised to learn that was the truth. I don’t know where the Falcons stand on Sweat, but I do know that if they’re not scared away by his medicals, he has the talent to be an absolute steal in the second round. If the team goes the route I expect them to go and nab an offensive lineman in the first round Takkarist McKinley Jersey White , Sweat in the second would be about the best case scenario for a team with long-term needs off the edge. For now it’s merely a possibility, but if we get to the end of the first round and Sweat’s still hanging around, I’ll allow myself to entertain the possibility that the Falcons might come away with a top prospect in the next round. Oh, and speaking of Stone Mountain, that’s where Sweat will be during the draft instead of with the other top prospects. It seems like we’ll start seeing more players spending the night with their friends and family rather than being at the draft itself, which is fine by me.Throwback Thursday Series: A tale of two Andersons and one NFC Championship Game We’re in the dead period of football (you can read about how much I hate this period here), and with it, we don’t have much to talk about except for some speculation here and there.I figured this would be a good time to look back on some moments in Falcons history and maybe relive them while we wait for football to come back. That idea has given rise to a new series of “Throwback Thursday” articles I’m planning on writing throughout the dead period. Each week, we’ll relive and discuss a certain moment in this franchise’s 52-year history. You can find last week’s Throwback Thursday article, about Dan Quinn, here. The 1998 Atlanta Falcons caught lightning in a bottle. Dan Reeves led a Falcons squad which had been mired in mediocrity in the 1990s, though that mediocrity was a serious upgrade over the awful performances of most of the 1980s.The birds made it to the playoffs in the 1991 and 1995 seasons, registering a playoff win in ‘91. Following that ‘95 playoff berth, and a subsequent 37-20 loss to the Green Bay Packers, Atlanta went a combined 10-22 in 1996 and 1997.The team went into the 1998 season https://www.falconslockerroom.com/authentic-takkarist-mckinley-jersey , the second year under Reeves, with hopes of getting back to the playoffs, though a division title seemed out of reach with the juggernaut San Francisco 49ers continuing to tower over the NFC West. The Niners had won the West five times in the previous six seasons, and 13 times since 1981 (in 17 years). The Falcons didn’t have a division title to their name since that 1980 season.Business as usual turns into anything butIt looked to be business as usual in terms of San Francisco owning the division in the early stages of the 1998 campaign, when they beat the Falcons by a 31-20 score in week 3 to improve to 3-0.The Falcons, who employed a veteran group led by quarterback Chris Chandler and running back Jamal Anderson, weren’t willing to kowtow to the supremacy of the 49ers, however. Following a week 5 loss to the New York Jets, which dropped their record to 5-2, the birds went on a nine-game winning streak throughout the rest of the regular season, bringing their record to a franchise-best 14-2. Head Coach Dan Reeves wasn’t with the team for the last two regular season games because of heart surgery, but he would rejoin his Falcons in the playoffs.QB Chris Chandler earned Pro Bowl honors, throwing to 3154 yards and accounting for a TD/INT ratio of 25/12. The Falcons had a 13-1 record in games started by Chandler, and were 1-1 when he was unavailable.RB Jamal Anderson was both a Pro Bowler and a First-Team All-Pro selection with his 2165 yards from scrimmage and 16 total touchdowns. He was the engine that kept this Falcons team churning, and his “dirty bird” touchdown dance still lives on in Atlanta Falcon folklore.WRs Terrance Mathis and Tony Martin each accounted for over 1100 receiving yards and a combined 17 receiving touchdowns. The defense was maybe even more impressive Black Austin Hooper Jersey , wreaking havoc on opposing offensive units week in and week out. The starting defensive line accounted for 12 of the team’s league-high 25 forced fumbles, paced by DE Lester Archambeau, who had five FF along with a team-high 10.0 sacks. Chuck Smith accounted for 8.5 of his own sacks along with three forced fumbles. The secondary came away with 18 of the team’s 19 interceptions. They were led by CB Ray Buchanan with seven and FS Eugene Robinson who had four. Both were Pro Bowl selections on the defensive side of the ball along with LB Jessie Tuggle.Atlanta had both the fourth-highest scoring offense and fourth best scoring defense in the NFL over the course of the regular season in 1998. The defense also led the league with 44 takeaways, and the team’s 33:10 minutes of position per game was good for first in the NFL.The playoffsIn literally any other year, Atlanta’s 14-2 record would have been good enough to earn them the top seed in the NFC and home-field advantage throughout the playoffs, but that wasn’t the case in ‘98. That honor went to the 15-1 Minnesota Vikings, a team so talented that that one loss was more surprising to see than those 15 wins. The Falcons did have a bye week in the first round, and they hosted and squeaked by the rival 49ers, in the two teams’ third meeting of the season, 20-18. That would set the stage for an NFC Championship game matchup against the Vikings.Minnesota was the heavy favorite to not only rout the Falcons (they were an 11-point favorite according to the Las Vegas line) but also to easily handle whoever they met in the Super Bowl when they inevitably made it there. Their offense averaged 34.8 points per game, the most in NFL history at that point in time. QB Randall Cunningham was a First-Team All-Pro selection. RB Robert Smith was a Pro Bowler. They featured two future Hall of Fame WRs in Chris Carter and Randy Moss, the latter of whom was a First Team All-Pro selection after recording 1313 receiving yards and a jaw-dropping 17 touchdown receptions in his rookie year. The defense wasn’t too shabby either, ranking seventh in the league in terms of points allowed. First-Team All-Pro selection DE John Randle led the unit with 10.5 sacks and three forced fumbles. LB Ed McDaniel was also a Pro Bowler. The fated NFC Conference Championship GameThe Vikings were overwhelming, and the Falcons did a fantastic job to resist getting overwhelmed in that hostile Minnesota environment. The birds even took an early 7-0 lead courtesy of a 5-yard TD run by the dirty bird, Jamal Anderson. That was quickly countered by a 31-yard TD connection from Cunningham to Moss Austin Hooper Jersey 2019 , however. The game really blew open in the second quarter, and it looked like the Vikings were about to run away with it, the way they had been doing so against opponents all season. Through a pair of field goals and a 1-yard TD rush by the QB, the hosts opened up a 20-7 lead. Cunningham and company looked poised to seal the deal by halftime as they had the ball on their own 18-yard-line with less than two minutes left. Chuck Smith came up with a massive sack and forced fumble on 3rd and 10, however, to give Atlanta the ball back on Minnesota’s 14-yard-line. Terrance Mathis would catch a touchdown shortly afterward, keeping Atlanta in the game. It was 20-14 at halftime. The Vikings did enough to win this game. Leading 27-20, they drove down the field and lined up for a 38-yard game-sealing field goal with 2:07 left in the fourth quarter. Kicks were automatic points for them that season, thanks to Gary Anderson, who was a perfect 35 for 35 on Field Goal attempts and 94 for 94 on all kicks in general in 1998. It was the best season by a kicker ever, and as soon as he ran out onto the field, the nail went into Atlanta’s coffin. It didn’t quite play out the way Vikings (and even Falcons) fans were expecting, however. The pressure of the big moment got to Anderson, and his kick sailed wide left to keep the Falcons within one score. Atlanta was given new life while the Vikings players and fans were left rattled.Against a shell-shocked defense, Chris Chandler led a quick 72-yard drive down the field and capped it off with a game-tying TD pass to Mathis with about a minute left in regulation. In overtime youth Devonta Freeman Jersey , Atlanta found themselves driving the ball once again, getting into the field goal range of their own kicker named Andersen — the Great Dane, Morten Andersen (yes, I know he has an e instead of an o in his name, but just go with it for the sake of the pun). From 39 yards out, Atlanta’s Andersen had ice in his veins and made a perfect kick to send the Falcons to the Super Bowl and to leave the Vikings asking themselves “what just happened?”The legacyIt was one of the great upsets in NFC Championship history. For all of the suffering we have endured as Atlanta fans, the pain experienced by Minnesota fans is right up there with our’s, and this game was the magnum opus of Minnesota sports heartbreak. I do personally like to look at this game as revenge for the 1991 World Series.Morten Andersen would eventually surpass Gary Anderson’s NFL Field Goal record eight years later, once again as a member of the Atlanta Falcons after a four-year period away from the team which included a brief stint with the Vikings. The Falcons would go on to lose the Super Bowl to John Elway and the Denver Broncos, before subsequently going back to mediocrity in 1999 and beyond, but this magical season, capped off by this magical moment, will never be forgotten here in Atlanta.Expect to see one more of these “Throwback Thursday” articles next week, before the regular season begins.

It was an eventful 10 days for the Arizona Cardinals youth Chandler Jones Jersey , and it started with their humiliating loss at the hands of the Denver Broncos on Thursday Night Football. That lead to the firing of Mike McCoy, the promotion of Byron Leftwich and then things got interesting, as Patrick Peterson asked for a trade, before it was slightly defused. That gave the Rise Up, See Red Podcast plenty to talk about this week Stitched Chandler Jones Jersey , so let’s take a look at the Arizona Cardinals. Here are the topics and approximate time stamps:(1:50) Patrick Peterson wants out, why, whether the Cardinals trade him, what they should get(32:24) The Mike McCoy firing and Byron Leftwich promotion(49:22) Steve Wilks’ comments on the defense, scheme Hakeem Butler Arizona Cardinals Jersey , production(59:20) Looking ahead to the 49ersListen to the latest from Cards Wire’s Jess Root and RotB’s Seth Cox on the Rise Up, See Red Podcast. Subscribe on Apple podcasts or Stitcher Radio. I have been trying my best to highlight the positives about our struggling new head coach, Steve Wilks—-and while he manifests impressive passion and diligence—-at this point it is very difficult to envision him as the right head coach to move the Cardinals forward. With Mike McCoy—-unfortunately it has been painfully clear for 6 weeks that he is not the offensive coordinator the Cardinals need. Many of us were upset the day he was hired. The main questions that need to be addressed and answered—-Is there any coach on this staff who is a good fit for QB Josh Rosen? What is wrong with RB David Johnson? Is there any coach on this staff who is the right coach for Johnson?Rosen and Johnson are the two major investments the Cardinals have made this year on offense. Rosen is showing positive signs, despite no running game and poorly conceived game plans. Is there a 3rd down play in the 2018 Cardinals’ playbook that would actually work? As for Johnson, he has not been the same since 2016 when BA was the head coach and Stump Mitchell was his RB coach. BA rode DJ hard—-he needs a coach with BA’s kind of gravitas. And Mitchell was a superb mentor and teacher. Look at what Mitchell is doing with the Jets’ running backs. His defection in 2017 was hardly talked about—-but without him on the staff Cheap Hakeem Butler Jersey , we have not seen the DJ we once were in awe of. Certainly not the timid, tentative, fumble-prone version we are seeing this year. These two concerns alone could be enough proof that the Cardinals need a new head coach in 2019.It would be another thing if the Cardinals’ defense was thriving under Steve Wilks. Alas, we haven’t even seen a standard type of base defense from Wilks even when he and everyone knows how impossible it is to defend good skill players (QB, RB Hakeem Butler Arizona Cardinals Jersey , WRs, TEs) while trying to stop the run out of the nickel and while trying to snuff out passing attacks playing an array of soft zones, where you even sometimes see Haason Reddick and Josh Bynes covering a stud WR like Adam Thielen...especially when there’s a guy named Patrick Peterson on the field. The defense does make a lot of splash plays—-but they give up—-way too much. And this week the special teams units were putrid—-incurring penalties on virtually every punt which further pinned the struggling offense deep in its own end—-and 2 kickoff returns from Brandon Williams that he couldn’t advance past the 20 (while T.J. Logan isn’t even active). One could say, yeah but Williams did have one good return. He did—-but it was because the Vikings were zoning that return with 7 second left in the first half to make extra sure they wouldn’t give up a score. The gist is—-the offense can’t stay on the field—-the defense can’t get off the field——and the special teams are undisciplined and undependable. The offense is not the right offense for Rosen and Johnson—-the defense is not the right defense for the current personnel—-nor are the special teams.Mr. Bidwill—-could you please explain the current direction of the franchise? Because right now—-it is very difficult to comprehend.

Patrick Peterson is one of the best cornerbacks in the league Limited Chandler Jones Jersey , and is willing to return punts as well.He also offered to play General Manager when it was time to add some help in the secondary.Peterson told Kyle Odegard of the team’s official website that as soon as the Falcons released cornerback Robert Alford, he was immediately on the phone with Cards G.M. Steve Keim.“Once I saw that he was available,” Peterson said, “Steve was on speed dial.”Peterson’s known about Alford for years, since the then-Southeastern Louisiana cornerback reached out via Instagram direct messages (we’ll see if Peterson airs him out like Antonio Brown did JuJu Smith-Schuster). As Alford entered the league Chandler Jones Cardinals Jersey , they stayed in touch.“In the NFC, we kind of play the same guys,” Peterson said. “He was always asking me, ‘What do you think about this receiver? What notes do you have on this guy? What was your game plan against this guy?’ So I started giving him tips on how to become a better film watcher, how to dissect your opponent. He’s definitely been taking that to heart and it’s been showing.”Peterson has a vested interest now Elite Chandler Jones Jersey , hoping Alford can help stabilize the other side of the field, and teams don’t throw away from him without fear. And he also needs a finder’s fee. It’s been a long two weeks since the Arizona Cardinals beat the San Francisco 49ers to run their season record to 2-6.So long that you almost forgot that the 2-6 Cardinals were in fact 2-6 and going into a matchup with the best offensive team in the NFL.Yep, that’s what today is.When you break this game down it really is simple鈥?the Arizona Cardinals have to find a way to keep the ball out of Patrick Mahomes hands as much as possible. The Chiefs are scoring at an unbelievable clip, so if you give them 10 possessions, they’ll likely end up scoring on six of them. That’s right Game Chandler Jones Jersey , the 2018 Chiefs are scoring on 56% of their offensive possessions, so the key to the game is simple, limit their possessions.Of course, that’s easier said than done for an Arizona Cardinals offense that is scoring on a league low 17% of their drives while also being last in time of possession, average yards per drive and average plays per drive. So Chandler Jones Womens Jersey , no matter what happens today on defense, if the offense for the Cardinals plays to their season average, the defense won’t have an opportunity to make a difference against the Chiefs. The more possessions you give the Chiefs, the more chances you give the best offense in the NFL a chance to score points. That’s what they do better than any team in the NFL, so Youth Chandler Jones Jersey , let’s limit that as much as possible, or else it could be a long day in Kansas City.

It was a heck of a run for the undrafted free agent out of Valdosta State."The Atlanta Falcons will reportedly release right tackle Ryan Schraeder Limited Calvin Ridley Jersey , who spent six seasons with the team after signing as an undrafted free agent out of Valdosta State. The team confirmed the release and a post-June 1 designation for Schraeder shortly after free agency kicked off at 4 p.m. ET. That designation saves the team $6.45 million against the cap. Schraeder was maybe general manager Thomas Dimitroff’s most impressive undrafted free agent signing, and he certainly proved to be a diamond in the rough. After struggling to find a suitable right tackle to play opposite of Jake Matthews (Jeremy Trueblood anyone?), Atlanta rolled the dice with Schraeder in 2014, and they were rewarded richly for it. In 2015, Schraeder started all 16 games for the Birds and was graded out by Pro Football Focus as the best right tackle in the NFL with an 87.0 mark. That was enough to give him a spot on PFF’s All-Pro team as well.He didn’t slow down too much in 2016, either Calvin Ridley Falcons Jersey , starting every single game for a vaunted offensive line in Atlanta’s Super Bowl run. Schraeder was rewarded with a 5 year/$31.5 million ($12.5 million guaranteed) contract extension in the middle of that magical season. He made Dimitroff look like an intelligent man after putting on another strong performance in 2017.The wheels just fell off in 2018, however. Schraeder’s 63.6 overall PFF grade this season was good for 116th among all offensive lineman, and 63rd among all tackles in the NFL. The seven sacks he gave up were the eighth-most among all tackles, and he was also one of only eight offensive lineman to surrender double digit QB hits.Schraeder was eventually benched for Ty Sambrailo in Week 14.The Falcons will be on the hook for $3.8 million in dead money with this release, but they do save $3.95 million in cap space from not having to pay Schraeder the $7.75 million cap hit he was due in 2019. We’ll see if he’s designated a post-June 1 cut or not. In the end, you couldn’t really ask for anything more from an undrafted free agent than three seasons of elite play at a position of extreme need. Schraeder is a home-grown product and I’ve always rooted for him. Hopefully he lands on his feet and is able to continue his NFL career with another team.Right tackle is now a major long-term need for the Falcons Elite Calvin Ridley Jersey , increasing the chances that they’ll draft one early in April. Expect Ty Sambrailo to start for the moment, but the team is likely not done at tackle. Free agency is approaching quickly and the Falcons look destined to use their franchise tag on the standout defensive tackle."WhiteFanposts Fanshots Library FalcFans Podcast on The FalcoholicContact The FalcoholicFalcons StoriesScheduleRosterStatsYahoo Falcons NewsYahoo Falcons Team PageYahoo Falcons ReportYahoo Falcons Depth ChartYahoo Falcons TransactionsYahoo Falcons PhotosOdds About Masthead Community Guidelines StubHub 鉁昍eport: Falcons “not close” with Grady Jarrett on contract extensionNew,76commentsFree agency is approaching quickly and the Falcons look destined to use their franchise tag on the standout defensive tackle.ESTShareTweetShareShareReport: Falcons “not close” with Grady Jarrett on contract extensionJason Getz-USA TODAY SportsIn what was expected to be an easy but active offseason, the Falcons are stuck in perhaps their worst case scenario. Only weeks ago we calculated how the Falcons could free up nearly $50 million in cap space. The space would provide for a long-term deal with Grady Jarrett, a pay bump for Julio Jones, and plenty of spending money for some big free agents. Now it is March and the team may be scraping by and unable to so much as replace their lost free agents. The team Game Calvin Ridley Jersey , widely expected to rescind Vic Beasley’s fifth-year option or rework the deal, will pay him nearly $13 million for 2019. Ryan Schraeder and a few other high priced veterans with diminishing roles remain on the roster. The team cut proven veterans like Matt Bryant but signed 37 year-old quarterback Matt Schaub to a two-year extension.Atlanta’s spending cash is drying up. Now a deal with Jarrett looks unlikely before free agency. Per D. Orlando Ledbetter of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.Thomas Dimitroff has been publicly optimistic they can work out a deal with Jarrett since last offseason, so please take that with a grain of salt. The team desperately needs to get a deal done with Jarrett prior to free agency, as the long-term deal frees up needed cap space early in the contract. Paying both Jarrett and Beasley on one-year deals strangles free cap space. As noted by DLed, the franchise tag for a defensive tackle is expected to be around $15 million. Add in Beasley’s number, and 15 percent of the 2019 cap goes to two defensive linemen. One of those linemen isn’t guaranteed to start. Dave Archer Calvin Ridley Womens Jersey , former Falcons quarterback and current analyst reported the two were not close and Jarrett was asking for Aaron Donald money. He quickly backed off his statement, but the timing was notable as he was just at Flowery Branch recording clips for the team’s social media. It is a bad place to be for the team. Both Thomas Dimitroff and Dan Quinn appear to be on short leashes with owner Arthur Blank and desperately need to bring the team back to relevance. That will be tough to do without spending in free agency.

It can be hard to come up with new ways to describe the talents of a football player Youth Greg Van Roten Jersey , but Ravens safety Eric Weddle came up with a curveball while discussing Panthers quarterback Cam Newton on Wednesday.Weddle took a page from prehistoric times聽to come up with a way to illustrate how different Newton is from other quarterbacks that the Ravens have faced or will face this season.“He’s a fast dinosaur, muscular and big and runs people over in the open field,” Weddle said. “Makes guys miss. He’s a very unique quarterback in this league. He’s the only one really like him.”Weddle was asked which dinosaur and came up with a triceratops because he “just bowls people over.”While it’s rare to hear players compared to dinosaurs, Newton said at his press conference later in the day that it’s not a first for him. He said an assistant at Auburn used to call him a dinosaur and explained he used that phrase because “they don’t make them like you anymore.”If someone could figure out how to do that, there might be another movie in the series in the works. CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) — The good news for the Carolina Panthers is they return home Sunday to face the Seattle Seahawks where they’ve won 10 straight games. The bad news is it’s highly unlikely the Panthers will play a playoff game in Charlotte, North Carolina, if they reach the postseason. The Seahawks (5-5) can relate. They and the Panthers (6-4) essentially find themselves competing for wild-card spots in the NFC with six games remaining given their chances of winning a division title and hosting a postseason game appear remote. Carolina has lost two straight on the road and fallen 3 ½ games behind New Orleans in the NFC South, while the Seahawks trail the Los Angeles Rams by 4 ½ games in the NFC West.“Right now, we can’t worry about what New Orleans is doing. We can’t worry about the playoff picture. We just have to win a game,” Panthers tight end Greg Olsen said. “In this league, it’s so easy to get caught up in, ‘If this team wins Stitched Greg Van Roten Jersey , if this team loses, (then) we can have home-field (advantage). … Hey, if we don’t win some games, we’re not going to be in the playoffs.”In terms of wild-card implications, this game looms as large as any in the NFC.Currently, the Panthers would be one wild-card team, while the Minnesota Vikings would be the other. But that could all change if the Seahawks continue their recent dominance over the Panthers.Russell Wilson is 5-2 against Cam Newton and Carolina. He has averaged 270.3 yards passing per game with 11 touchdown passes and six interceptions. Newton, on the other hand, has struggled mightily against the Seahawks with nine turnovers and only five TD passes.“They get after the quarterback,” Newton said when asked of his struggles against the Seahawks. “That’s what they do extremely well, and they’re very opportunistic in that. You know what they’re going to be in (defensively), they know you know what they’re going to be in, but they just play so fast and rally around the football.”Seahawks coach Pete Carroll wasn’t giving any hints as to how his team intends to slow one of the game’s most dangerous QBs.“If I tell you Youth Eric Reid Jersey , then that would help them, huh?” Carroll said.MORE OF MOORED.J. Moore has been looking increasingly more like Carolina’s top receiver — and this week he may need to take on the role of No. 1 receiver with Devin Funchess listed as doubtful with a back injury that has kept him out of practice this week.Moore, the team’s first-round draft pick, caught seven passes for 157 yards and a touchdown in Carolina’s 20-19 loss to the Lions last week, including an 82-yard catch and run. Meanwhile, Funchess had a miserable game with five drops, including one in the end zone.If Funchess is out, the Seahawks can expect to see more of second-year wide receiver Curtis Samuel, who has been explosive in his limited playing time.SACK ATTACKFrank Clark is having a standout year in a contract season for the Seahawks. Clark has already tied his career high with 10 sacks with another six games to go. He has been a consistent threat off the edge and has seven sacks in the past five games. While Clark has been a menace, Seattle is still seeking a complementary pass rusher to work with Clark. Defensive tackle Jarran Reed is second on the team with 5 ½ sacks, but no other player has more than two.Seattle had five sacks of Aaron Rodgers, but Carroll warned Newton is a completely different challenge.“I’m hoping that that will be a part again because if you noticed, we broke the pocket down and that’s important to do with Cam as well because he can get out and really scorch you too Stitched Eric Reid Jersey ,” Carroll said.PRESSURING WILSONThe Panthers realize they need to get some pressure on Wilson and make him uncomfortable in the pocket. That hasn’t been Carolina’s strength this season as it ranks 23rd in the league in sacks entering the week with 23. Carolina isn’t getting much penetration inside, where defensive tackle Kawann Short has gone nine straight games without a sack after registering two in the season opener against Dallas.Wilson is expecting a close game.“We know these games against Carolina have always come down to the wire,” Wilson said. “We have a lot of respect for how they play the game. They play the game the right way, they play the game fast and physical, they play the game smart.”THREE-HEADED ATTACKSeattle has the top running game in the NFL and it continues to be a collaborative effort.Chris Carson, Rashaad Penny and Mike Davis all have had 100-yard games this season.Carson is clearly the primary ball carrier and had 17 carries for 83 yards in Seattle’s win over Green Bay last week. But Penny has been earning more opportunities as his rookie year has progressed, and Davis was the closer for Seattle against the Packers as the one getting carries on the final drive.Seattle has rushed for at least 150 yards as a team in seven straight games.GOTTA GANOPanthers kicker Graham Gano missed an extra point and a field goal in Carolina’s 20-19 loss to the Lions last week. So when coach Ron Rivera opted to go for 2 in the game’s final seconds instead of tying the game, it appeared to show a lack of confidence in his veteran kicker. However, Gano returns home this week where he has made 39 straight field goals.__AP Sports Writer Tim Booth in Seattle contributed to this report.__

Panthers quarterback Cam Newton is ecstatic to have Greg Olsen back on the football field. And he wants Olsen to remain on the field Blue Cam Newton Jersey , so much that Newton said he asked his spiritual grandmother Hattie-Lou Newton to pray for the tight end's continued health."That would be great," Olsen said with a laugh, "I can use all of the help I can get."The 33-year-old Olsen practiced Thursday and is expected to return to action Sunday against the Redskins after missing three games with a broken foot.Olsen was one of the most durable players in the NFL during his first 10 seasons, never missing a game due to injury while playing in 158 consecutive games. But he's missed 12 of the last 18 games since first fracturing his right foot in Week 2 of last season. He re-broke the same bone in Carolina's season opener against the Cowboys and hasn't played since. That has left the three-time Pro Bowl selection frustrated and eager to get back on the field 鈥?although not enough to rush back from the injury."I wouldn't be out there if I didn't think I could help the team," Olsen said. "Me being out there and not being able to move, that doesn't do us any good. This isn't about me just desperately wanting to play. I want to play and I expect to play like I am accustomed to."Coach Ron Rivera said barring any setbacks before Sunday there won't be any restrictions on Olsen's playing time.Rivera said Olsen moved around well Thursday, and participated fully in practice. Like his teammates, Olsen hasn't been able to go full speed yet this week because heavy rains the past two days in the Charlotte area have caused the fields to be wet and soggy.Olsen brings yet another option in the passing game for Newton, who just got second-year wide receiver Curtis Samuel back from a minor heart procedure last week."The band is back," Newton said with a wide smile.Nobody knows what Olsen means to the Panthers more than Newton.Olsen has always been his favorite target. He became the first tight end in NFL history to record three consecutive 1,000-yard seasons from 2014-16."He can't (get injured) no more Cam Newton Jersey 2019 ," Newton said. "... His play-making ability on the field is just second to none. Having Greg back, keeping him healthy along with the talent that we already have, it presents a lot of problems for the opposing team."Newton said Olsen also helps him call out plays in the huddle, something that fans don't always see.The eighth-year quarterback said many calls in the NFL these days are simply too long and contain too much verbiage, and suggested some need to be simplified one-word phrases like "Panther," or even "Tepper" or "Rivera," referring to the surnames of the team's owner and head coach."Greg is a very intellectual person that helps me out with play-calling," Newton said. "I call him 'the dictator' in the huddle because I really have problems with calling plays 鈥?even in year eight. And he kind of helps me."Newton went on to say "calling a play shouldn't be a paragraph. ... I will be in the huddle and I'm already tired and I don't have time to be saying this, that and the third. (It should be) ready, ready break. You only get so much time."Olsen downplayed Newton's comments Thursday, saying the quarterback "exaggerated a little bit" in how much he helps him."Cam has it under control Blue Luke Kuechly Jersey ," Olsen said. "... Sometimes in the heat of the battle I will help piece some things together. But I think Cam was just being generous." No Pro Bowls? No Twitter followers? No problem."The Carolina Panthers will enter the 2019 season with a number of roster holes to fill and finding a defensive end who can get to the quarterback will be among the most urgent. Julius Peppers is 38 and Father Time will catch up at some point. Wes Horton was largely invisible this year. Efe Obada is promising but raw. Thankfully, the Panthers will still have Mario Addison, a player who over the last three seasons has established himself was one of the NFL’s most consistently effective sack artists. But despite his effective play, Addison remains one of the league’s most underrated and underappreciated players. Addison’s sick statsMario’s 29.5 sacks between 2016 and 2018 ranks No. 10 in the NFL. This puts Addison above more nationally celebrated players like Joey Bosa (28.5), Geno Atkins (28.0), Jason Pierre-Paul (28.0), Cameron Wake (28.0), Everson Griffen (26.0), and Demarcus Lawrence (26.0). Each of these players have been Pro Bowlers at least once in their careers while Mario Addison has never earned that recognition. One of the reasons why Addison tends to fly under the national radar is because he is almost boringly consistent. Over the last three years his season sack totals have been 9.5 in 2016, 11.0 in 2017, and 9.0 in 2018. While he’s never had the eye-popping 14 sack type of a season to generate national buzz Luke Kuechly Jersey 2019 , he’s been consistently solid year after year. Only seven players registered at least 9.0 sacks in each of the last three seasons: Mario Addison, Von Miller, Khalil Mack, Geno Atkins, Ryan Kerrigan, Chandler Jones, and Frank Clark. Where’s the love?Despite his consistently strong play over the last three years Addison still flies under the national radar. Remember, he’s an eight-year veteran who has played in seven playoff games between 2013 and 2017, including Super Bowl 50. He’s a teammate of Cam Newton and Luke Kuechly and plays for a franchise that normally appears in a couple of nationally televised games each year. One way to evaluate the national attention a player gets is to simply look at the number of Twitter followers he has. When compared to the “9.0 sacks club” listed above, Addison’s 19,600 Twitter followers are dwarfed by his peers such as Von Miller (444k followers) Blue Ryan Kalil Jersey , Khalil Mack (228k), Chandler Jones (225k), Ryan Kerrigan (131k), Geno Atkins (100k), and even Frank Clark (48k).Yes, Frank Clark has more than twice as many Twitter followers as Mario Addison.Don’t be surprised if Mario reaches double digits in sacks in 2019. He will be entering the final season of his 3-year, $22.5 million deal and a dominant campaign will only help with free agency looming. Hopefully the defense around Super Mario will be improved next year (more pressure up front, better secondary behind), freeing him up to keep punishing opposing quarterbacks. As Panthers fans we know we’ve got one of the NFL’s better pass rushers in Mario Addison. Let’s hope a dominant 2019 helps the rest of the world figure it out as well.

NEW ORLEANS SAINTS (12-6)OPEN CAMP: July 26 Womens Donovan Smith Jersey , Ochsner Sports Performance Center, Metairie, LouisianaLAST YEAR: Helped by infusion of elite young talent, Saints pulled out of three-year rut of mediocrity and won NFC South. They were seconds away from advancing to NFC title game, only to be thwarted by Minnesota receiver Stefon Diggs' winning touchdown as time expired in divisional round. New Orleans received major contributions from running back and Offensive Rookie of Year Alvin Kamara, and cornerback and Defensive Rookie of Year Marshon Lattimore. Several other first-and second-year players filled regular roles as well, and veteran Drew Brees remained one of NFL's top QBs.IMPORTANT ADDITIONS: LB Demario Davis, S Kurt Coleman, CB Patrick Robinson, WR Cameron Meredith, Rookie DE Marcus Davenport.IMPORTANT LOSSES: S Kenny Vaccaro, TE Coby Fleener, WR Willie Snead, G Senio Kelemete, RT Zach Strief, CB Delvin Breaux.CAMP NEEDS: Lineup is relatively stable from last-season's playoff run, but New Orleans looking to bolster pass rush by finding someone who can make offenses pay for sending multiple blockers at All-Pro end Cameron Jordan. Saints want Davenport to develop into that player. But he is raw in first season out of UTSA. Saints also want to figure out which running backs can fill in for Mark Ingram during his four-game suspension to open season. Veteran free agents Shane Vereen and Terrence West, along with draft pick Boston Scott and second-year pro Trey Edmunds, are competing for those snaps.EXPECTATIONS: Saints appear to have gotten stronger and deeper than last season, particularly with additions on defense. Keys to improving are how well new players fit and, as usual, avoiding injuries. If Davenport develops quickly, Saints could be elite. If not, teams with good plan to block Jordan could give New Orleans fits.AP NFL website: pro32.ap.org and AP_NFLCAROLINA PANTHERS (11-6)OPEN CAMP: July 26, Wofford College, Spartanburg, South CarolinaLAST YEAR: Panthers enjoyed bounce-back season after failing to reach playoffs in 2017. Carolina lost three times to New Orleans, including wild-card playoffs. No deep threat, lengthy injury to TE Greg Olsen and poor pass protection doomed offense. Defense remained one of NFL's best behind high MLB Luke Kuechly.IMPORTANT ADDITIONS: Rookie WR D.J. Moore, WR Torrey Smith, WR Jarius Wright Womens William Gholston Jersey , RB C.J. Anderson, RB Kenjon Barner, G Jeremiah Sirles, DT Dontari Poe, rookie CB Donte Jackson, CB Ross Cockrell, S Da'Norris Searcy.IMPORTANT LOSSES: G Andrew Norwell, RB Jonathan Stewart, DT Star Lotulelei, DE Charles Johnson, S Kurt Coleman, CB Daryl Worley, QB Derek Anderson.CAMP NEEDS: Panthers need to adjust to three new coordinators: Norv Turner (offense), Eric Washington (defense) and Chase Blackburn (special teams). Turner's relationship with QB Cam Newton critical to team's success. Second-year RB Christian McCaffrey is featured back with Jonathan Stewart gone. Team expected to use more two tight end sets, play-action under Turner. Addition of WRs D.J. Moore, Torrey Smith and Jarius Wright should bolster passing game. Washington inherits defense looking to replace four starters (Lotulelei, Johnson, Coleman and Worley). Kuechly, DT Kawann Short, LB Thomas Davis, CB James Bradberry and pass-rushing tandem Julius Peppers and Mario Addison (11 sacks each) all return. GM Marty Hurney thrilled with second-round pick CB Donte Jackson, who'll start.EXPECTATIONS: Core of team that's been to postseason four of past five seasons remains intact, but aging quickly. Peppers is 38, S Mike Adams 37, Davis 35, and C Ryan Kalil and Olsen are 33. Newton is 29. Plenty of pressure to win now under new owner David Tepper before window closes. Carolina should compete for NFC South title with New Orleans and Atlanta if offense improves.ATLANTA FALCONS (11-7)OPEN CAMP: July 27, Falcons practice facility, Flowery Branch, GeorgiaLAST YEAR: One year after reaching Super Bowl, Falcons finished third in NFC South and lost to Philadelphia in second round of playoffs. Quarterback Matt Ryan, working under new coordinator Steve Sarkisian Womens Beau Allen Jersey , had decline in production from 2016, when team led NFL in scoring. Ryan still signed five-year, $150 million deal in offseason. Good news is young defense, led by speedy linebackers Deion Jones and De'Vondre Campbell and safeties Keanu Neal and Ricardo Allen, allowed 318.4 yards per game, significant drop from 371.2 in 2016.IMPORTANT ADDITIONS: G Brandon Fusco, rookie WR Calvin Ridley, TE Logan Paulsen, CB Justin Bethel, rookie DT Deadrin Senat, QB coach Greg Knapp, RB coach Bernie Parmalee.IMPORTANT LOSSES: DT Dontari Poe, DE Adrian Clayborn, WR Taylor Gabriel, FB Derrick Coleman, TE Levine Toilolo.CAMP NEEDS: Spotlight will be on WR Julio Jones after team announced it won't renegotiate his current $71.5 million contract. Jones has three years remaining in five-year deal. Jones did not attend minicamp, and training camp holdout could be major distraction to "brotherhood" atmosphere promoted by coach Dan Quinn. Defensive front will be concern following losses of Poe and Clayborn. Senat could have opportunity for immediate playing time, if not starting role. Ridley needs to prove he can handle No. 3 receiver spot behind Jones and Mohamed Sanu and be ready for even bigger role.EXPECTATIONS: Ryan is 33, Jones is 29, RB Devonta Freeman had two concussions, including one in preseason, and knee injury last season, and RB Tevin Coleman could be free agent after this season. These are all alarm signals as window for current offense is narrowing. While young defense is emerging as team's strength, Atlanta's offense needs to re-emerge in second season with Sarkasian if team can have real hope for second Super Bowl appearance in three years. Addition of Fusco should add more stability to interior offensive line. Competitive NFC South doesn't lessen expectations. Anything less than 10 wins and another postseason would be disappointment.TAMPA BAY BUCCANEERS (5-11)OPEN CAMP: July 26, One Buccaneer Place, Tampa, FloridaLAST YEAR: Failed to play up to heightened expectations coming off winning nine games previous season. Lost 10 of 13 following 2-1 start, missing playoffs for 10th straight year. QB Jameis Winston missed three games, plus most of fourth due to injury he tried to play through in three other starts. Lack of consistent running attack was problem. Gerald McCoy-led defense was disappointing, too, ranking last in league with 22 sacks.IMPORTANT ADDITIONS: DE Jason Pierre-Paul Womens Ryan Smith Jersey , DT Beau Allen, DE Vinny Curry, DT Vita Vea, RB Ronald Jones, C Ryan Jensen, DT Mitch Unrein.IMPORTANT LOSSES: RB Doug Martin, DE Robert Ayers, Jr., G J.R. Sweezy, DT Chris Baker, DT Clinton McDonald, S T.J. Ward.CAMP NEEDS: Reconstructing defensive line and improving anemic pass rush were top priorities this offseason. However, getting newcomers Pierre-Paul, Allen, Curry, Unrein and first-round draft pick Vea acclimated to defensive coordinator Mike Smith's system isn't only concern entering camp. Winston will miss first three games of season while serving suspension for violating NFL's personal conduct policy. So, balancing starter's workload in practice along with that of backup QB Ryan Fitzpatrick, will be focal point during preseason.EXPECTATIONS: With Winston entering his fourth season, suspended three games for off-field behavior and also due to see his salary increase to $20.9 million in 2019, coach Dirk Koetter and general manager Jason Licht — as well as 24-year-old Winston — are on hot seat to end franchise's long playoff drought. Winston will miss season opener at New Orleans, as well as home games against Philadelphia and Pittsburgh. An 0-3 start could be difficult to overcome, even if Pierre-Paul, Vea and Curry are answers to club's pass-rushing woes. The Buccaneers offense is going to have a different look with head coach Bruce Arians pulling the levers this season and the guy putting the plays into motion is going to have a different look as well.Quarterback Jameis Winston was at Arians’ golf tournament on Saturday and revealed that he’s going to be a bigger presence on the field than he has in past years. Winston has been listed at 231 pounds, but said he is working to build up muscle mass ahead of the season.“I’m getting it. I’m going to play bigger this year,” Winston said, via the . “I’m about 250. Yeah. A solid 250. It’s just about hydration and being at the peak body, too.”This is shaping up as a pivotal season for Winston as he is unsigned beyond 2019 and his recent play has done little to make anyone rush to give him a long-term deal. We’ll have to wait to see if going bigger leads to better things.

CARSON http://www.thebengalslockerroom.com/authentic-john-ross-jersey , Calif. (AP) — The Los Angeles Chargers had every reason to be susceptible to a trap game against Cincinnati. The Chargers were coming off an emotional, come-from-behind victory against Pittsburgh last Sunday and a key AFC West showdown at Kansas City was fast approaching.Sunday's 26-21 victory over the Bengals was not one of Los Angeles' best-played games of the season, but it does improve the record to 10-3 going into Thursday night's game against the 11-2 Chiefs for the division lead. "Everyone wanted to talk about Pittsburgh and if it wasn't Pittsburgh then it was Kansas City. This team was dangerous and we got out of there with a win," Chargers coach Anthony Lynn said. The Chargers scored touchdowns on their first two drives and then got four field goals from Michael Badgley — including a team-record 59-yarder — to deal the Bengals (5-8) their fifth straight loss."We did enough to win. Shoot, they all count the same. We found a way to win, in a different way," said Philip Rivers Womens Billy Price Jersey , who was 19 of 29 for 220 yards and a touchdown. The Chargers had 160 yards of offense on their first two drives — which ended in a Keenan Allen 14-yard TD catch and 5-yard score by Austin Ekeler — but had 128 the remainder of the game. Three of the last eight drives started at or inside the Chargers 7.Ekeler rushed for 66 yards on 15 carries with Melvin Gordon missing his second straight game due to a knee injury. Allen had five receptions for 78 yards and has a touchdown in five straight games."Sometimes you just have to play complementary football. Defensively we stopped them when we needed to," Lynn said. "Offensively we started out, but then slowed down and kicked field goals the rest of the day."Cincinnati had good field position for most of the day with an average drive start of its 35. Joe Mixon had 111 yards on 26 carries and a touchdown. Jeff Driskel, who was making his second straight start since Andy Dalton's season-ending thumb injury, was 18 of 27 for 170 yards and a touchdown."The decisions I made today didn't work out. We didn't get to make the break. This or that decision put us in situations, whether it's fourth down and we've got to make the stop, the 2-point (conversion) and so forth Womens Hardy Nickerson Jersey , those things today, we didn't get to make the breaks," Bengals coach Marvin Lewis said.Cincinnati got within two points at 14-12 late in the first half on a pair of field goal by Bullock — one came after an apparent TD run by Driskel was overturned by replay — and Driskel's 5-yard TD pass to John Ross (the 2-point attempt was no good). The Chargers, though, would take a 17-12 lead when Badgley made his 59-yard field goal on the final play of the first half. The Chargers led 23-15 late in the fourth quarter when Mixon scored from a yard out. The 2-point attempt, which would have tied the game, failed when Driskel was sacked by Darius Philon.BIG OVERTURNDriskel appeared to score a touchdown with about five minutes remaining in the second quarter on a 1-yard scramble that would have brought the Bengals within four http://www.thebengalslockerroom.com/authentic-john-miller-jersey , but replay overturned it saying he was short of the goal line.In the past, quarterbacks were safe to go head-first and not be considered to be giving himself up, but that was changed this season."He dove forward to the goal line and as soon as his knee hit the ground, he was ruled to have given himself up. The ball was short of the goal line," referee John Hussey said after the game. The overturn meant the ball was spotted inches short of the goal line and brought up fourth-and-goal. Bengals guard Alex Redmond was then called for a false start and Cincinnati had to settle for a Bullock 23-yard field goal that cut the Chargers' margin to 14-6.BIG LEG BADGLEYBadgley, who had the winning field goal last Sunday at Pittsburgh, now has the longest field goal in Chargers history. The Chargers attempted a Hail Mary with a second remaining Josh Malone Jersey White , which resulted in Rivers being sacked, but Bengals defensive end Jordan Willis was called for a false start, which brought out Badgley, who said he was very confident about making it."You got to go out there with that kind of confidence. If you're going out there thinking you're going to miss it you probably shouldn't be kicking it," said Badgley, who is 14 of 15 on field goals since joining the Chargers last month. "But going out there, it was a way for us to steal momentum from them at the end of the half http://www.thebengalslockerroom.com/authentic-mark-walton-jersey , go into the second half with more points. It was definitely good for us to get those points at the end of the half."The former team record was a 57-yarder by Nate Kaeding at Tampa Bay on Dec. 21, 2008.UP NEXTBengals: Host Oakland next Sunday before concluding the season with two straight road games.Chargers: Travel to Kansas City on Thursday night in a matchup of two of the top teams in the AFC. The Dolphins are expected to try to get Patriots linebackers coach Brian Flores to Miami on Monday to finalize his deal to become the team’s next head coach. While they are doing that, the Bengals are set to do the same with Rams quarterbacks coach Zac Taylor. Tom Pelissero of NFL Media reports that Taylor is expected in Cincinnati the day after Super Bowl LIII to put the finishing touches on his contract to become the successor to Marvin Lewis with the Bengals.Taylor wasn’t able to directly discuss the Bengals this week, but said it hasn’t been “hard at all” to keep his focus on Rams matters with a big step up the coaching ladder on the horizon.Brian Callahan is set to join Taylor in Cincinnati as the Bengals’ offensive coordinator. Neither that nor any other move is likely to be announced until things are official with Taylor.

In 4 plays"When it came down to evaluating the San Francisco 49ers second overall draft pick Nick Bosa Ronnie Lott Jersey , many critiques included something along the lines of “not an elite athlete”, or “doesn’t have a good first step.” If the problem for a player is “he’s not the same athlete Khalil Mack is”, then he’s probably really good. We haven’t really talked about Bosa for that reason. One thing I do want to highlight is Bosa and his ability to cover ground. I’ll use four plays from 2017 to do so.Second and third stepsOne area where many draft analysts fail at is putting too much emphasis on a players first step. The screenshots and GIFs look great when a player explodes off the ball and is in the backfield while the offensive lineman is still in his stance. I’ve made this mistake in the past plenty of times. I’ve also learned from that mistake. What I picked up on was that a players second and third steps are equally, if not more important than his initial step. It’s all about the ground you cover.Check out this play against Michigan State. Bosa is the edge rusher to the top of the screen. That’s why referencing 10-yard splits are valuable. Bosa ran a 1.60 10-yard split. For reference, Mack ran a 1.59. Myles Garrett ran a 1.63. Bosa’s 10-yard split is elite. This sack against UNLV is another good example. You can see the ground he is able to cover in just three steps. Being able to turn the corner that quickly is special. That is something the 49ers have been lacking. He may not get the sack on the play, but he forces an errant throw. Bosa did this all the time at Ohio State. Bosa brings consistent pressure, and that’s why he was the pick at No. 2.Play recognitionBosa wins a lot. One of the reasons he wins is that he picks up on what the offense is doing instantaneously. Iowa has some nice wrinkles in their run game. They also have some very good players on the offensive line. This draft cycle I tried to watch players go against the best of the best. T.J. Hockensen was drafted at No. 8 overall. He’s believed to be one of the most dominating run blockers in some time. Many compared him to George Kittle, which I disagree with. Watch Bosa on this play. Some of the best players in the NFL would run upfield here and take themselves out of the play. Bosa sees Hockensen trying to cut him off, and beats him to the punch. Speaking of punch, another critique is “he’s not as powerful as Joey.” Another silly statement. You can see Hockensen hop a couple yards from Bosa’s jolt. If his quickness wasn’t enough for you, being able to finish the play is icing on the cake. This play has it all. Staying cleanPlenty of college players are going to have production. Not all of it transfers to the NFL. The players that are able to keep themselves clean are the ones that deserve to be drafted early. That’s Bosa. When he wins, it’s rarely ever “a hustle sack” where the quarterback is holding onto the ball. This sack against Rutgers is a good example. You’ll see him being able to turn the corner in three steps again. Watch how easy it looks. What I like about Bosa is that he has a plan to rush the passer. If his initial plan doesn’t work, he has a counter. Not many pass rushers in college can say that.Fits what you want to doIf Bosa can’t fit your scheme, then you probably need a new scheme. That said, there were plenty of reps at Ohio State where Bosa rushed from a “Wide 9”, which the 49ers plan to use more of this year. That’s right up the wheelhouse of new defensive line coach Kris Kocurek. This play is against the Baltimore Ravens 2017 third round pick Orlando Brown. While I think Bosa is better when when he’s right on top of the tackle, so he has true two-way go, he’s far from a slouch when he’s playing in a wide 9-technique. That just speaks to what Bosa can do on the field. There is a lot of value in having a player on the defensive line that you can line up just about anywhere and know he will win. That’s Bosa, and that’s why he was selected at No. 2. The Kansas City Chiefs are on an upward trajectory, their blistering start spearheaded by a young, transcendent quarterback in Patrick Mahomes who is already setting NFL records. The San Francisco 49ers are the opposite in every way.Not only were they soundly beaten in a 38-27 loss at Arrowhead Stadium on Sunday, trailing at one point by four touchdowns, they also lost their own franchise quarterback when Jimmy Garoppolo was carted off in the closing minutes with what appears to be a season-ending knee injury.49ers coach Kyle Shanahan said the team will know more Monday, when Garoppolo has another round of tests in San Francisco. But he acknowledged late Sunday that the injury appears to be an ACL."Any time you lose your starting quarterback," Shanahan said, "that's a big deal."The 49ers (1-2) signed Garoppolo to a five-year, $137.5 million contract earlier this year after he led them to five consecutive wins to cap last season. And despite some turnover problems the first two weeks he had been pretty good, throwing a pair of touchdown passes against Kansas City.Everything turned in the fourth quarter, though, when Garoppolo scrambled toward the sideline. His left knee buckled as he cut back, rather than step safely out of bounds, and Chiefs cornerback Steven Nelson delivered a wicked shoulder-to-shoulder shot for good measure.C.J. Beathard wound up entering the game Nick Mullens Jersey , threw a touchdown pass that was wiped out by offensive pass interference, and never got to take another snap as the Chiefs put the game away. His next snap will probably be the first one next week against the Chargers."It' definitely a blow. He's a great quarterback and obviously a great leader," said Beathard, who started five games last season before Garoppolo arrived in a trade with New England."Just keep these guys together. Keep leading them," he said. "We had a lot of injuries today, not just Jimmy. A lot of guys went down today. Just a matter of keeping everybody healthy next week."Meanwhile, the Chiefs (3-0) couldn't be happier with the performance of their young quarterback.Mahomes threw for 314 yards and three touchdowns against San Francisco, giving him 13 on the year without an interception. That broke Peyton Manning's NFL record for the first three weeks of a season.Perhaps most impressive, though, was the way Mahomes spread the wealth. He targeted 11 different receivers, connected with eight and found three with touchdown throws."Pat lives for these moments," said Chiefs wide receiver Chris Conley, who had one of the TDs. "I think he excels when the lights are on, and in front of big crowds. I think he's right at home. I think he's in his element. I think he's still growing into his role as the starting quarterback here, and we've just got to keep working with him and growing as well."As the 49ers and Chiefs roll into next week, here are five takeaways from Sunday:PENALTY PROBLEMS: The 49ers were whistled for 14 penalties for 147 yards, and that doesn't count a couple instances of off-setting flags and where they were penalized twice on the same play. That yardage total is substantial chunk of the 408 yards of total offense managed by San Francisco.SACK ATTACK: The Chiefs only had two sacks through the first two weeks, but Justin Houston had two by himself on Sunday. Dee Ford also had a sack before leaving with a groin injury, and Allen Bailey had another to help stop San Francisco's final drive of the game.RUN, RUN, RUN: San Francisco rallied on the legs of Matt Breida, who led the NFL in rushing coming into the game and had 90 yards on 10 carries, and Alfred Morris, who had 14 carries for 67 yards and a touchdown. With uncertainty at quarterback, the 49ers' ground game will be even more important.SPEAKING OF RUN: Chiefs running back Kareem Hunt, last year's rushing champ, had his first two TD runs this season. He only gained 44 yards on 18 carries against San Francisco, but many of them came in the closing minutes, when he picked up two first downs to put the game away.MORE INJURY NEWS: The 49ers lost cornerback Richard Sherman to a calf injury, safety Adrian Colbert to an ankle injury, linebacker Reuben Foster on a tackle and backup defensive back Tarvarius Moore to a wrist injury. Throw in a shoulder injury to safety Jaquiski Tartt that kept him on the inactive list and San Francisco has plenty of injury problems on defense.

Titans Camp Battles: Starting Inside Linebacker For the first time since 2013 Kevin Byard Jersey , the Titans opening day starters at inside linebacker won’t be Wesley Woodyard and Avery Williamson. The team let Williamson walk in free agency and now must replace him in the starting lineup. There are three primary competitors to take the spot next to Woodyard in the starting lineup. The most notable is rookie first round pick Rashaan Evans. Evans’ talent level and status as a 1st round pick should give him a shot at the starting lineup as early as Week 1, but I don’t think that should be considered a foredrawn conclusion at this point. In minicamp Mike Vrabel commented that Evans “is not where he needs to be to start for our defense, and that’s OK. ... I think he’s improved. We all have a long way to go.”While nothing has been definitively reported on this, it appears from clips of OTAs that free agent addition Will Compton was working with the starting group alongside Woodyard. We will see if that was really the case when camp opens on Thursday, but I wouldn’t be surprised to see him there at least initially. Compton has 5 years of NFL experience and 33 starts under his belt from his time in Washington. He also spent most of that time as the defense’s primary signal caller so it would not be surprising to see him out ahead of the pack early as the new scheme is getting installed. Jayon Brown is the other guy that factors in to this mix. He played a lot during his rookie season, primarily as a coverage specialist — something he does very well. I would expect Brown to have a significant role in the defense again in 2018, but the question is whether he can step beyond the passing down role and become a true contender for a starting role. To do that, he will need to demonstrate the ability to hold up at the point of attack in the running game. Brown has once again drawn rave reviews from the coaches and media during offseason work and seems to be a lock to have at least some role in this defense in 2018.Another wild card at this position — at least in sub-packages — could be backup safety and special teams ace Brynden Trawick. Last season Trawick got very little action on defense, playing just 4 snaps total outside of special teams, but a new staff could bring new ideas. One meeting room scene from the most recent Igniting the Fire episode appeared to show a potential nickel package with players numbers in various positions on defense. The most interesting part of that package was the appearance of “41” — Trawick’s number — penciled in as a backup Will linebacker behind Jayon Brown. New Titans defensive coordinator Dean Pees used a converted safety as his Will linebacker last season to great success. Patrick Onwuasor Adam Humphries Jersey , a 6’-0”, 217 pound safety who went undrafted in 2016, was moved to inside linebacker by the Ravens and by the end of his second training camp became a starter next to C.J. Mosley. He was the team’s second-leading tackler behind just Mosley last season.I don’t know that I would expect the same success for Trawick, but at 6’-2” and 225 pounds, he’s even bigger than Onwuasor. It’s an interesting idea that could give Trawick a more viable route to getting on the field on defense, though it’s hard to see him taking snaps away from Brown if everyone is healthy.Rounding this position group are Daren Bates, Nate Palmer, Nick DeLuca, and Robert Spillane. Bates and Palmer have been around, but are primarily special teams contributors. DeLuca and Spillane are UDFAs who will have a really tough road to making the roster given the talent and experience of the 6 guys ahead of them — 7 if you count Trawick. If I’m guessing today Cameron Wake Jersey , I expect that Woodyard is likely to be the 3-down linebacker wearing the green dot communication helmet at least to start the season. It is only a matter of time until Evans takes that role though. Whether that time comes in camp or during the season or even next offseason will depend primarily on how quickly the rookie is able to show Mike Vrabel that he “knows what to do and can play fast and aggressive”. If Evans is not quite ready for that level of responsibility right away, that’s OK. He will have a chance to contribute as another rush option on 3rd downs at the very least while he gets up to speed. So I would expect that Woodyard and Compton are the top unit in base defense with Compton coming off for Brown in nickel packages for the start of camp with Evans pushing to force his way on the field as quickly as possible. Again, that’s not a slight at Evans. I think he’s going to be an excellent player — you can get my full thoughts on him here — and expect him to have a major role by the end of the season, but for a team expected to contend it could benefit them to bring Evans along slowly. How the team balances the snaps between those 4 will be among the more interesting storylines in camp and leading up to the season. What if the officials called delay of game on the Ravens in 2009? We are doing theme weeks on the NFL blogs again this year. This week’s theme is “what if,” so of course that means we have to pull up some painful memory from the past and talk about how our lives as Titans’ fans would be different if that had turned out differently. The moment I picked is the 3rd and 2 play from the 2009 playoff game against the Ravens. The play clock hit :00 for at least 2 full seconds but no flag was thrown. Joe Flacco ended up finding Todd Heap for a 23-yard gain. That drive ended with Matt Stover hitting what turned out to be the game winning 43-yard field goal with 53 seconds left. Then Titans’ coach Jeff Fisher had this to say about the non-call after the game:Fisher is right, it wasn’t THE reason the Titans lost the game, but it was certainly a contributing factor. Of course the fumbles deep in Ravens’ territory by LenDale White and Alge Crumpler didn’t help things.I believe that if any one of those things hadn’t happened, the Titans would have gone on to win the Super Bowl, but for some reason it has always been the non-delay of game call that has hurt the most. What is the biggest “What If” Titans’ moment for you?

The Bears made their bid for his services Womens Shaquil Barrett Jersey , but Todd Bowles is headed to the Buccaneers after all.Word on Tuesday was that Bowles would join his former boss Bruce Arians in Arizona as the defensive coordinator with his new team and there are multiple reports that the deal became official on Wednesday. Per Chris Mortensen of ESPN, working out the offset language in Bowles’ Jets contract was part of the issue with closing the deal.Around the same time of reports that Bowles might be headed to the Bears, Arians talked about getting Bowles on board for Tampa.“He’s another one that’s like a son to me,” Arians said on The Rich Eisen Show, via Greg Auman of . “I was more talking to him about his future. We all get fired. I’ve been fired so many times I can’t count them all. Then it led to this.聽He thought hard about it. I was doing my best sell job and this happened. We’re really excited to be back together.”Bowles takes over after a season that saw the Buccaneers finish 31st in points allowed and 27th in yards allowed, so he has both a lot of work to do and a low bar to clear for better results. We’re eight games through the 2018 season and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers are 3-5 at the halfway mark. There’s still one more half to play, and just as quickly as the Bucs went from NFL darlings to the basement, they could feasibly come right back up. Stranger things have happened folks.Every week is a chance to get better, but we’re here to talk about the past before we move on to Week 10.Here’s a Tampa Bay Buccaneers only Hard Count!OFFSIDES: Jameis vs FitzmagicJeremy Brevard-USA TODAY SportsThe way some fans are talking is reminiscent of political conversations happening around the country, around the clock.Either you’re with Jameis Winston, or you’re against him. And if you support Ryan Fitzpatrick, you’re automatically against Winston.I’m here to tell you, this just isn’t the case.Look. Winston threw four really bad interceptions against Cincinnati. By itself, he’s probably still the starter. But, grouped with all of the turnovers he’s been party to since returning in Week 4, it was just too much. And it was. Now, this doesn’t mean I necessarily want Winston cut, or traded or re-signed to a five-year mega-million dollar deal either. For the record, I didn’t want the team to draft either Winston or Marcus Mariota back in 2015 and it had nothing to do with the quarterbacks so much as it did with the state of the team they were being inserted in to.See Jacquizz Rodgers Jersey , when you draft a quarterback that high in the NFL Draft, you have to start him. You just do. And the Bucs weren’t ready for a rookie quarterback. Let alone one who goes all out to make plays (Winston) or one who really wasn’t challenged much in a wide-open spread system with little-to-no defensive competition (Mariota).I could go into the, ‘what if they drafted _____ instead’, but I’ll spare you and me the headache. Now, I’m not saying we should stop arguing or disagreeing. Just please, do so respectfully. After all, we’re all here hoping to see the same things, a Bucs win.FALSE START: A much improved defense?Kim Klement-USA TODAY SportsThe linebackers are one of the best in the division - nay! - the league. The defensive line has some beasts up front and Gerald McCoy should hit double-digit sacks since he now has good running mates. The secondary is going to be much better given the presence of three day-two draft picks. All of whom are fan favorites.Really?Nah.Nobody but Jason Pierre-Paul has been healthy long enough to get into any kind of groove. The linebacker room has replaced their work tables with trainers tables. The secondary is showing how badly they’re missing Vernon Hargreaves III and Chris Conte. I said it.The defense which added so much talent to their side of the ball has been, and is once again, on pace to be the worst the NFL has ever seen. Will it get better? Perhaps. But this season is likely not when it’s going to happen. Even if the defensive line gets healthy, the back-end coverage is still going through growing pains.Kwon Alexander’s absence has shown just how valuable he really was to the Tampa Bay defense, even if he was having the worst season of his career up until the Cleveland Browns game. There have been reports the Tampa Bay Buccaneers were one of the teams looking to land New York Giants safety Landon Collins before the trade deadline. Bucs offered a third, Giants wanted a second.I’d have given up a second. But I’m not Jason Licht.Even if he had, recent history shows you can add a Pro Bowl caliber piece to any unit and have them come up a bust.Bottom line, we were all wrong about the defense. Tampa Bay burned their injury excuse card in 2017. So, here we are. Wrong, and in dire straits.FREE PLAY: Does Dirk deserve his quarterback?Kim Klement-USA TODAY SportsIn 2015, Dirk Koetter was one of the last to come around to drafting Jameis Winston. Now, I’ve been thinking about this Donovan Smith Jersey White , and even planned on discussing it with James Yarcho on an episode of Locked on Bucs in the near future. But, since it came up, I’ll go ahead and lay down my thoughts here. I may still drop them on the podcast, so feel free to take a listen and even drop your thoughts on the matter to our voicemail at (813)444-5841.Ok, moving on.Many have wondered aloud whether or not Winston fits coach Koetter’s offensive scheme. I’m one of them. And armed with the knowledge Koetter wasn't exactly on board with having him run the scheme in the first place, should coach get a crack at running his team with HIS quarterback?Well, there are two thoughts to sift through as far as I see it. One being:Shouldn’t the head coach adjust his scheme to fit the players? We’re talking quarterback here, so let’s stay on task.Yes. He should. However, imagine Tom Brady trying to learn a brand new scheme now at his age. After years and years of success. Asking him to be something he’s not likely wouldn’t work out all too well.Instead, the Patriots have done a really good job of scheming their offense, and putting players in place which fit what he does best.Granted, Brady does a lot, well. But you can’t put him in an RPO heavy scheme and expect the same success as - say - Cam Newton.Likewise, ask Newton to stop being a run threat, and defenses will suddenly find him much easier to defend. Koetter has built a career on being who he is as a coach. And while he’s never won a Super Bowl, there’s a reason he’s getting job after job. Asking him to install a different scheme, one he likely isn’t comfortable with, could theoretically cause more issues.Which brings us to topic number two:Was Koetter right to not want Winston?I went back and looked up some articles from the days and off-season following the drafting of Winston and eventual hiring of Koetter as the head coach after the team ditched Lovie Smith. In a column by Tampa Bay Times’ Rick Stroud, he and Koetter went in-depth about the coach’s preference of Mariota over Winston. At the time http://www.buccaneerslockerroom.com/authentic-ryan-smith-jersey , as the offensive coordinator, Koetter was responsible for studying tape on both quarterbacks. He talked about his relationship with Oregon’s Mark Helfrich and the differences between what he was being told about the Ducks quarterback and what Jimbo Fisher was saying about Winston. Now, he didn’t come right out - at least according to the column - and say he didn’t trust Fisher, but the inference was there from what I read.About his offense, Koetter told Stroud,Three seasons later, and it’s the same scheme and same attack strategy. Targeting deep passes and chunk plays over dump-offs and short routes.Coming off an impressive rookie season, Koetter also said this about where Winston needed to improve,Three seasons later, and it’s the same story, again. You can read the whole thing, here.I’ll finish this, with this final thought.Coach Koetter said many times after getting Winston and since becoming the head coach that he believed in Winston and thought he was the right guy for the job. Now, some of this might be true. But did he ever really believe Winston could lead his system? And if not, does he deserve the chance to find a guy who can?Fitzpatrick is no long-term solution. Winston hasn’t grown in the system the way we all hoped he would. Maybe a stint on the bench will get the former Heisman winner to think smarter, maybe not. But if the team really doesn’t feel like Winston and Koetter are a good match any longer, should the guy who said so from the start be the one getting replaced?

Sunday’s win over the Panthers doesn’t guarantee the Seahawks anything in terms of making the playoffs Nick Vannett Jersey , but a loss would have dealt their hopes a major blow and that made fourth-and-three from the Panthers’ 35-yard-line with under four minutes to play a crossroads in their season. The Seahawks called a pass play, but quarterback Russell Wilson didn’t see anything short to keep the drive going so he took a deep shot for wide receiver David Moore. Moore had cornerback Corn Elder all over him and needed to make a one-hand catch for a game-tying touchdown.Carolina drove for a field goal try, but Graham Gano missed and Wilson came up with one more big play. He hung in the pocket to make a 37-yard throw to Tyler Lockett and the game-winning field goal would come as the final seconds ticked off the clock.“You either look forward to the moment, or you fear it Duane Brown Jersey ,鈥?Wilson said, via Peter King of . 鈥淚 know me, and I look forward to the moment — to the moments like we had today out there.”Wilson said that days like Sunday are great for the Seahawks’ confidence and they’ll try to use that boost to turn four home games in the final five weeks into a playoff berth. Whenever a starting quarterback goes down http://www.49erslockerroom.com/authentic-bradley-pinion-jersey , the approach to filling the void becomes either “next man up” or “next man in.”The 49ers for now will elevate C.J. Beathard to the starting lineup, and also potentially promote Nick Mullens from the practice squad to the 53-man roster. The fact that they’re reportedly working out Tom Savage suggests that they’re at least willing to look elsewhere. So where else could they look? They can sign a free agent, pluck a player from a practice squad, or attempt to pull off a trade. The free-agent options aren’t plentiful, as evidenced by the fact that the name at the top of the call list was Tom Savage.Other free agents presently on the market include Landry Jones, Paxton Lynch, EJ Manuel, and Colin Kaepernick (that’s technically true), Garrett Grayson, Josh Woodrum, Kyle Allen, Garrett Gilbert, Nic Shimonek, Luis Perez, Bryce Petty, Peter Pujals, J.T. Barrett, Joe Callahan, Jack Heneghan Kwon Alexander Jersey , Nick Mullens, Austin Allen, Connor Jessop, Matt Barkley, and Austin Davis.Fifteen quarterbacks currently are on practice squads: Davis Webb (Jets), Danny Etling (Patriots), Christian Hackenberg (Bengals), Phillip Walker (Colts), Tanner Lee (Jaguars), Logan Woodside (Titans), Chase Litton (Chiefs), Cardale Jones (Chargers), Tyler Bray (Bears), Jake Rudock (Lions), Kurt Benkert (Falcons), Connor Cook (Panthers), Brandon Allen (Rams), Alex McGough (Seahawks), and Chad Kanoff (Cardinals). As trade possibilities go Robbie Gould Jersey , the Dolphins currently have four quarterbacks on the roster, with Brock Osweiler, David Fales, and Luke Falk behind Ryan Tannehill. The Jets have Josh McCown backing up Sam Darnold; they could trade him and then elevate Davis Webb. The Ravens still have Robert Griffin III, but a Shanahan reunion would be a long shot, to say the least. The Browns have former starter Tyrod Taylor and odd man out Drew Stanton, now that Baker Mayfield is QB1.The Texans have Brandon Weeden (who was cut by the Browns when Shanahan arrived as offensive coordinator) and Joe Webb behind Deshaun Watson. The Broncos have Kevin Hogan behind Case Keenum and Chad Kelly. The Giants have Alex Tanney and Kyle Lauletta backing up Eli Manning. The Eagles have Nick Foles and Nate Sudfeld behind Carson Wentz. The Vikings have Trevor Siemian and Kyle Sloter behind Kirk Cousins.Falcons backup Matt Schaub has spent time with Shanahan in the past, but the Falcons currently have no other backup to Matt Ryan, other than Benkert. With Jameis Winston returning to the Bucs on Tuesday, Ryan Griffin (or maybe even Winston) could be expendable. And the Cardinals have both Sam Bradford and Mike Glennon behind new starter Josh Rosen. Then there are the Saints. They acquired Teddy Bridgewater for a third-round pick from the Jets. Could they flip him to the 49ers for something more than what they gave up? That would depend presumably on how much the 49ers would offer. But it would be odd, to say the least, if the team that got Jimmy Garoppolo for a second-round pick would give up a second-round pick for Bridgewater. The overall options aren’t great for the 49ers. And they’re not great for the networks either. The 49ers are due to play in prime time four times from Week Six through Week 10. Unless they do the completely unexpected and bring back Kaepernick, the NFL can kiss big ratings in those games goodbye. The Pro Football Hall of Fame Class of 2019 was announced on the eve of the Super Bowl, and 49ers fans may be disappointed. John Lynch did not get in, again (his sixth time) and Isaac Bruce also did not make it in. Both do not have tight connections with the 49ers. Bruce played the final two seasons of his career, having spent the rest of it with the then-St. Louis Rams (his rookie year they were in Los Angeles, in case you’re keeping track). John Lynch spent his playing career with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Denver Broncos before becoming the general manager of the 49ers in 2017. 2020 brings with it some more eligibility for familiar and tenured 49ers ... Carlos Rogers!Ok, that’s a cut-and-paste job from Fooch’s joke this time last year, but really what we’re bringing up is Patrick Willis. The argument we’ll be hearing is how his career was short. Short or not Colin Kaepernick Jersey White ,the 49ers were a different team when he was on the field. In the locker room, Willis was the consummate professional and he was very active in the community off the field. And yes, the selection committee does look at this when deciding on selection—look at the delays to let Terrell Owens in. Despite the praise, ability, and pedigree, the Hall will most likely keep him out. At least for his first couple of years. Longevity can’t be ignored and Willis’ brief career is what is going keep him on the outside looking in. If he got a Super Bowl ring that may have swung a different direction, but he has none. Then there’s Justin Smith, a player that is also deserving and has a better chance of making it in. Cowboy, as some people called him was fearless, durable, and the backbone of the 49ers’ defensive line during the Jim Harbaugh years.Smith demanded double teams on every play or the opposing team’s quarterback would pay dearly for it. When Aldon Smith was drafted, Justin’s double teams allowed Aldon ample opportunity to run around the edge. When they were healthy, this made a filthy defensive line that was downright unfair. When teams tried to double-team Aldon in response of his productivity, Justin would just bullrush the single offensive linemen into the quarterback and take them both down at times.Justin Smith might not be a first-ballot hall of famer, but he has a much better chance of getting in at some point. That class also has Maurice Jones-Drew, Reggie Wayne, and Troy Polamalu. Of those three I think Polamalu has the best chance of getting in on the first ballot. Polamalu has two Super Bowl rings on the first page of a book of stats so thick, it’d put an address book to shame. When do you see Patrick Willis or Justin Smith getting in?

A little less than three weeks ago the Titans were 3-1 Adoree' Jackson Jersey White , coming off a massive win over the defending Super Bowl champs and optimism was at an all-time high. What a difference two weeks makes. Now 3-3 — but still tied for first place in the AFC South — the Titans will look to use their trip across the pond to jumpstart an offense that has lost its way over the past two games. The Chargers won’t make things easy. They’re 4-2 with the two losses coming against two of the NFL’s best teams in the Rams and Chiefs. Here are some of the matchups I’ll be keeping an eye on this week.Marcus Mariota vs the Chargers secondaryMuch has been made about Mariota’s struggles the past two weeks — and there is certainly some cause for concern coming out of those two games — but it’s worth noting that Buffalo and Baltimore are two of the top five pass defenses in the NFL according to DVOA (and virtually any other metric). The Chargers are far from a sieve on the back end — they rank 12th in Pass Defense DVOA and have some real talent in the secondary — but they aren’t quite as imposing as some of the Titans previous opponents. The Chargers are allowing 7.4 yards per attempt through the air, 9th most in the NFL, so there has been some success to be found there for opposing passing games. The Chargers defense is led by a man Titans fans are pretty familiar with in former Jaguars coach Gus Bradley. Known for his Seattle Cover 3 scheme, Bradley’s defense trends towards zone coverage more often than not and gives his secondary a chance to jump routes and make plays on the ball. However, that also leaves holes to be exploited by accurate quarterbacks and well-schemed route combinations. From a talent perspective, the secondary is the most dangerous level of the Chargers defense right now. Corner Casey Hayward is one of the best in league and nickel corner Desmond King is an opportunistic ballhawk. The starting corner opposite Hayward, Trevor Williams, is the spot that I would target if I was the Titans. He’s allowed 20 catches on 27 targets for 304 yards and 3 touchdowns on throws in to his coverage per PFF.Jahleel Addae and standout rookie Derwin James will man the safety spots. Addae is a solid veteran player, but James is a rising star. He’s likely the early leader in the Defensive Rookie of the Year race as he’s stuffed the box scores with 36 tackles, 3.5 sacks, 1 interception, 6 passes defensed, 4 tackles for loss, and 6 QB hits through 6 games. The Chargers will line up James all over the field to take advantage of his diverse skill set and the Titans will need to make sure they know where he is at all times. If the Chargers follow the Ravens blueprint from last week, James may be used as a spy on Mariota.Taylor Lewan and Jack Conklin vs Melvin IngramIf you want to look for some reasons for optimism when it comes to the Titans offense bouncing back, the battle in the trenches is a good place to start. The Chargers usually have two great talents on the defensive line with Melvin Ingram and Joey Bosa, but Bosa remains out with an injury. Without Bosa, the remainder of the Chargers defensive line is very average, especially compared with the talented Baltimore front the Titans just faced. Ingram is very dangerous though and the Titans must have a plan for him. He will generally line up to the open side of the offense’s formation (the side without a tight end) in an effort to use his speed to his advantage. Usually I would feel pretty good about the Titans ability to handle Ingram Tajae Sharpe Jersey , but with Lewan looking far less than 100% last week, I think it would be wise for Tennessee to make sure they have someone available to chip Ingram on most passing downs.Derrick Henry and Dion Lewis vs Denzel PerrymanThe Titans rushing attack has been stifled early in the season and that has certainly contributed to some of the offense’s woes. Part of the reason for that is the run defenses they’ve faced. Through six weeks they’ve played four of the top seven run defenses in the NFL according to DVOA and have yet to play a run defense ranked outside the top 12. The Chargers check in at 20th on that list heading in to this game so theoretically, this should represent the best chance the Titans run game has had to figure things out yet. Denzel Perryman is the leader of the Chargers run defense from his inside linebacker spot. He’s a decent run stopper, but far from the talent that Baltimore’s C.J. Mosley or Buffalo’s Tremaine Edmunds were the last couple weeks. When Lewis is in the game, he should have a big advantage over Perryman and the other Chargers linebackers in the passing game. Wesley Woodyard vs Melvin GordonThe Titans will face one of the best running backs in the NFL this week in Melvin Gordon. He’s really come in to his own over the past couple seasons and is currently the third leading rusher in the league with 466 yards. He’s not just a volume runner either, he’s averaging 5.12 yards per carry and also contributes in the passing game with 30 catches for 279 yards. All of those numbers are on pace to be career highs. Gordon was reportedly added to the Chargers injury report on Saturday with a hamstring issue and is listed as questionable to play Sunday. That could be a break for the Titans run defense, but things don’t get much easier with Gordon’s backup Austin Ekeler. Ekeler is averaging 6.4 yards per carry on 41 carries along with 14 catches for 207 yards and 3 touchdowns.Regardless of who runs the ball for LA, the Titans struggling run defense is in for a challenge. The good news is that they will be getting their best linebacker back in the lineup in Wesley Woodyard. Woodyard’s return also has a ripple effect. The responsibility for getting the defensive calls communicated and making adjustments on the field falls back on his shoulders and comes off Jayon Brown’s plate. It also likely allows Rashaan Evans and Brown to return to a run down/pass down platoon which plays to both player’s strengths. The Titans will need this entire position group on top of its game to contain Gordon and Ekeler both on the ground and through the air.Logan Ryan vs Keenan AllenThe Chargers passing attack is easily the best the Titans have faced in 2018. Their wide receivers are all big and very talented. This group will pose a major threat to the Titans corners. Their best receiver, Keenan Allen, lines up all over the field, but spends about 50% of his time in the slot where he will likely draw Logan Ryan most of the time. Ryan has been excellent this season and will need to continue that high level of play Sunday. Allen uses his unfair level of quickness for a man who stands 6’-2” and 211 pounds to create separation and seems to be able to get open at will. Harold Landry vs Joe BarksdaleThis is a huge matchup for the Titans. Derrick Morgan is out with a shoulder injury which means Landry is likely to get the start opposite Brian Orakpo. Getting quick pressure on Philip Rivers is absolutely crucial. He holds the ball in the pocket for an average of just 2.39 seconds per drop back, the least amount of time for any current starting NFL quarterback. That makes him very difficult to sack — something that’s happened just 7 times this season — or even pressure. Landry is one of the few players that can generate quick pressure and he should spend most of his time matched up against Chargers right tackle Joe Barksdale who is making his return from a knee injury that cost him the last five games. Barksdale isn’t the quickest tackle to begin with and if he’s anything less than 100% coming off the knee injury, he could struggle with Landry’s speed off the edge. The Titans enter the 2019 NFL draft with a huge need at EDGE. It’s a premium position and they simply don’t have enough reliability there at this point. Harold Landry is a great piece to build..."WhiteFanposts Fanshots Sections Tennessee Titans Podcast2019 NFL draft: An EDGE rusher in every round for TitansNew,28commentsCDTShareTweetShareShare2019 NFL draft: An EDGE rusher in every round for TitansRob Kinnan-USA TODAY SportsThe Titans enter the 2019 NFL draft with a huge need at EDGE. It’s a premium position and they simply don’t have enough reliability there at this point. Harold Landry is a great piece to build around, but he’s just entering his sophomore season and has battled injury over the past two seasons. Cameron Wake was a great signing to replace the veteran presence they lost in Derrick Morgan and Brian Orakpo, but Wake has done his best work in a limited a role as of late. Kamalei Correa and Sharif Finch certainly flashed at times last season, but neither player showed enough last year to be cast into a full-time role at this point. Tennessee will likely add at least one EDGE rusher by the end of Day 2, and it wouldn’t surprise me if they decide to double down at the position. Let’s take a look at prospects that could fit in every round.Round 1: Brian Burns, FSUShould the Titans decide to use the 19th overall selection on an EDGE rusher Kamalei Correa Jersey , Burns makes a lot of sense. He’s a long, speedy rusher who can turn the corner as good as any pass rusher in this talented class. He possesses excellent burst off the snap to shoot the gap immediately. He has a well developed pass rush arsenal. That should serve him well at the next level. He’s versatile enough to play both with his hand in the dirt or standing up. Pairing Burns with Landry would give the team two pass rushing specialists that have made a habit of bending the corner on tape. They could quickly become the most exciting pass rushing duo in the NFL.Round 2: Anthony Nelson, IowaNelson is a heavy handed defender that would be an excellent compliment to Landry. If the Titans are looking for a player with a different skillset than what they have in their second year rusher from Boston College, Nelson would be an excellent choice. He has excellent length and does his best work when he shoots his hands. Nelson is also an excellent run defender, something Landry has been criticized for in the past. A big man with a motor that’s always running hot, Nelson strikes me as a safe prospect with a high floor. He too has a varied pass rush arsenal, but the bull is his most effective rush at this point. He’s not bendy and I have some questions about his overall athleticism, but Nelson should be a very solid player at the next level.Just one example of Nelson’s (#98) ability to beat double teams with power.Round 3: Oshane Ximines, Old DominionA talented rusher from a small school, Ximines has the size, power and quickness to make him worthy of a top-100 selection. Despite coming from a smaller program, Ximines has a well developed pass rushing arsenal, but his ability to bend-and-rip is what’s most impressive about him on tape. He keeps his hands active and plays the game with excellent balance. He’s a speedy guy with a great first step off the snap, something that’s so key to being successful at the next level. He’s also a very smart player who reads-and-reacts to what’s happening around him in a timely fashion. His high football I.Q. should allow him to see the field early and often as a rookie.Round 4: Wyatt Ray, Boston CollegeWith all of their connections to Boston College, you can bet that the Titans will have a lot of information on Ray. Not only did he share a position room with Landry, but new Titans strength and conditioning coach Frank Piraino could provide some insight into Ray as well. It takes Ray a second to get going off the snap, but he’s a long, quick strider who eats up space once he gets going. He uses his length to set up everything else he wants to do as a rusher. He’s incredibly physical and he effectively converts speed to power. All of the traits are there for Ray Jayon Brown Jersey White , but it’s gonna take some good coaching to help him put it all together. Perhaps the familiar faces in Tennessee is exactly what he needs.Round 5: Ben Banogu, TCUBanogu’s athletic profile is the type you bet on with a Day 3 selection. The type of explosiveness and speed he showcased at the NFL Scouting Combine will have teams taking a closer look at him. On tape, he has a lot to work on if he’s going to be successful at the next level. First and foremost, I thought he was a little too slow to react to what’s going on around him. Still, you can work with him. Banogu has a variety of moves in his arsenal already. The outside club is his best move, but he also incorporates a nice rip move, and a two-hand stab as well. He’s a bit of a liability in the run game at this point. He’ll have to improve in that area if he hopes to see the field consistently at the next level, but his athletic profile will certainly get him drafted.Round 6: Justin Hollins, OregonA twitched up rusher with some solid fluidity to his game, Hollins is an intriguing option on Day 3. He’s not a bendy rusher on tape. Instead, Hollins has success when he sets up the offensive linemen with stutter and hesitation moves. He does have some quickness to his game, but everything he does is set up with slow developing rushes. He needs to work on not getting pushed past the pocket so often, but Hollins has some exciting tools to work with.Round 7: Jordan Brailford, Oklahoma StateBrailford is another intriguing option that should be available late. His 40 yard dash time of 4.65 was excellent considering his size. He has great length and size for the next level. He does a great job of using his hands to disengage from would-be blockers. He keeps them active and he’s constantly swiping to get free. He moved around for Oklahoma State, playing both in a 3-point stance and standing up as a 3-4 rusher. Right now, he relies on his length and bull rush to get after the quarterback. He’ll have to develop one or two more moves, but Brailford could be a value selection on the backend of the 2019 NFL draft.

The Cleveland Browns come in to Tampa Bay for their Week 7 matchup against the Buccaneers. Both teams are coming off brutal losses in Week 6 and to help preview this week’s game O. J. Howard Jersey , Chris Pokorny of Dawgs by Nature joins us for a Q&A.Bucs Nation: What has been the reception to Baker Mayfield so far? Has the team been supportive of the young quarterback?Chris Pokorny: Baker Mayfield had his first “bad” game last week against the Chargers, but he wasn’t the reason the Browns lost -- everyone played well below their standards. In terms of support, everyone loves Mayfield and believe it was the right decision to move on from veteran Tyrod Taylor so quickly. The rookie has had great command of the offense at the line of scrimmage, is accurate, makes strong throws, and can shake defenders to help extend plays. One of the weaknesses I have seen out of him include not having the right feel yet for the height that he needs on some of his passes; in other words, defensive linemen or linebackers have been able to tip passes intended for open receivers in the seam. The other weakness is that there are a handful of times per game in which he doesn’t feel the rush coming, leading him to walking right into a sack when he tries to bail from the pocket. But the support is there 100%, and the fanbase is very excited to watch him lead a competitive team while developing at the same time. BN: Mayfield struggled last week, but to be fair he faced one of the top pass defenses in the league in the Chargers. Has Hue Jackson and the rest of the staff tried to make adjustments to help be more successful?CP: Hue Jackson and “adjustments” do not belong in the same sentence ;) One thing I will say is that I feel offensive coordinator Todd Haley has not really limited the playbook for his rookie quarterback, and Mayfield has handled that aspect of things pretty well. Last week in the first half, Mayfield put two long passes right on the button for two rookie receivers in the end zone, but each rookie misjudged the ball, leading to an incompletion. That helped deflate some of the mood in what could have been a closer shootout type of game. Mayfield also slipped on the sideline first down marker, forcing him to play the rest of the game on a sore ankle. The adjustments I’ve heard Mayfield speak of this week are that he wants to speed up some of his decision-making and also remember to throw checkdown passes at times to help pick up yardage as opposed to always looking for chunk plays.BN: What’s the deal with Nick Chubb? Are there any plans for him to become a bigger part of the offense?CP: This question ended up being great timing! After you asked it, the Browns traded starting running back Carlos Hyde to the Jacksonville Jaguars. That definitely opens the door up for Nick Chubb to start getting more carries as opposed to the three-per-game he has been getting. Whether Chubb or Duke Johnson become the “starting” running back remains to be seen Justin Evans Jersey , but Johnson is a fantastic receiving option and Chubb has shown a lot of promise in limited action. The one concern I have is Chubb’s pass protection abilities. I felt he was lost in that area in the preseason, and wasn’t much better in the regular season.BN: Cleveland is coming in with the fifth ranked running game while the Bucs are the fifth best team in the league against the run. Will this be a game where the Browns have to lean on the running game to take pressure off Mayfield and try to force the Bucs to play the run despite how good Tampa Bay has been against it?CP: The Browns being ranked fifth in the NFL in rushing is one of those things where I really don’t feel it translates to meaning the Browns are great at rushing, or that they are a run-first team. Some of that yardage was inflated in the first few games from Tyrod Taylor scrambling so often. Cleveland is not afraid to unleash the passing game. There will be no restraints on Mayfield when it comes to that, so “taking pressure off Mayfield” is not a particular priority the team is trying to achieve.BN: Prediction for Sunday?CP: The Browns were so competitive in the first five games that even national media members were mentioning that Cleveland could have been a 5-0 team. That is why last week’s game against the Chargers was so weird -- no one came to play. Sure, there were legitimate excuses I could make like dropped passes and bad officiating, but overall, the Chargers just dissected Cleveland so well that they kept running the same plays and couldn’t be stopped. I’d like to think the Browns can bounce back, but they are trying to clear another hurdle by getting their first road win in forever. I am picking the Browns to win, but I would not place money on this game because it is more of a fan pick than a confidence pick. Safety Andrew Adams led the Buccaneers in interceptions during the 2018 season, but he may not have a chance to try to make it two years in a row.Adams came into the offseason set for restricted free agency, Greg Auman of TheAthletic.com reports that the Buccaneers will not tender him a contract. The lowest restricted free agent tender this year is $2.025 million. Using it would not have set the Buccaneers up to receive any draft pick compensation if another teams signed Adams to an offer sheet that they declined to match.Adams joined the Bucs in late September after Chris Conte went on injured reserve. He’d gone to camp with the Giants, but failed to make the team after playing 30 games and making 17 starts in 2016-2017.He played 370 defensive snaps, made 38 tackles and intercepted four passes in Tampa last year. The Bucs will be going with a different defensive look this year after making the move to hire Todd Bowles as the defensive coordinator on Bruce Arians’ staff.Adams could still re-sign with the team on a different deal, but would become an unrestricted free agent on March 13 if that doesn’t happen.

On Sunday Night Football it was the Seattle Seahawks hosting the one time division rival Kansas City Chiefs with significant playoff implications on the line. The Chiefs have already secured their playoff spot Ethan Pocic Jersey , but could have secured home field advantage through the playoffs with a win. The Seahawks, meanwhile, could secure a return to the playoffs with a victory, after having watched the 2017 playoffs from home. And, welp. However, somebody might want to let Cable Thanos know the NFL is trying to steal his line. Fans, of course, celebrated the team making the playoffs. And just in case, if because of the limited amount of time Doug Baldwin has seen the field this season, some readers have forgotten how good ADB is, he’s REALLY REALLY good. And the young little whippersnapper they call Tyler Lockett is pretty good as well. But let’s not forget about the defense, as Bobby Wagner, Frank Clark and the rest of the Seahawks defenders certainly did a fantastic job to hold Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs offense in check for most of the night. But apparently not everyone is happy about the Seahawks doing well. Welp, that’s too bad for whoever Morgan Vest is because the Seahawks will play a near meaningless game in Week 17 against the Arizona Cardinals before most likely heading to Jerry World to take on the Dallas Cowboys in one of the NFC Wild Card games. However, if they manage to lose that near meaningless game and the Minnesota Vikings upset the Chicago Bears in Week 17, in which case they would most likely travel to Chicago for a rematch against the Bears. ATLANTA (AP) — The tenets of Sean McVay’s coaching philosophy are never far from sight at the Los Angeles Rams‘ training complex.“We Not Me” is emblazoned everywhere from the Rams’ playbooks to huge wall signs in the locker room. “The Standard Is the Standard” adorns T-shirts.“Trust the Process” isn’t a sarcastic joke in Thousand Oaks, as it became among basketball lovers in Philadelphia. It earnestly greets every player in large letters when they cross the Rams’ facility for team meetings.“I think what football really represents is there’s something special about being part of something bigger than yourself,” McVay said this week in Atlanta. “The star of the team is the team, however you want to say it. But words are words. You’ve got to really live it.”In just two years in charge, the 33-year-old McVay has utterly changed — or perhaps created — the identity of a franchise that had 13 consecutive non-winning seasons before his arrival. Though they’re years away from having the success necessary to finish it, the foundation is set for a culture that could someday emulate the best parts of the “Patriot Way K.J. Wright Jersey ,” the unofficial name for coach Bill Belichick’s ability to unite his franchise under his core principles. On their way to the Super Bowl on Sunday, the Rams navigated a trying regular season at home, with a mass shooting and two wildfires all occurring near their training complex in Thousand Oaks, California.According to players and coaches, that adversity and the franchise’s response to it cemented the rightness of McVay’s methods — and through it all, the Rams kept winning.“Sean has implemented an unbelievable culture,” Rams general manager Les Snead said. “We always say around here that we’re not collecting talent. We’re building a team, and there’s more to a team than just a skillset on a football field.”McVay never claimed to invent his motivational phrases, which mean exactly what an outsider would presume. “We Not Me” isn’t Shakespeare, but the NFL isn’t English lit class.McVay’s cutting-edge offensive acumen and coordinator Wade Phillips’ defensive know-how are the pillars beneath this Super Bowl team, but the Rams believe McVay’s commitment to simple, direct communication is another key component. The players know what McVay means because he repeats his messages constantly, and then he shows them with his actions. His players have responded in kind, and the result is a tight-knit group of disparate personalities that could win a championship this weekend just two years after many of the same players went 4-12.“When (McVay) got here, it was all about buying into what he was talking about,” defensive tackle Michael Brockers said. “Buying into character, and buying into the ‘We Not Me’ mentality. Ever since we’ve done that, and this team has carried that on our shoulders, we’ve been winning. For a man to come in here and just change it like that, I have to show my respect to him. It started with him.”Brockers joined the Rams in St. Louis in 2012, and he endured five straight losing seasons before McVay arrived. When asked to name the biggest changes during his Rams tenure Dontae Johnson Jersey Green , he can’t stop: “The leadership we have. The coaches we have. How confident we are in our game plan. How confidently we go into each game.”“I’ve just seen the changes over these years, and it’s beautiful,” Brockers added. “It makes me emotional, because things like this don’t happen in a short amount of time, and I’ve watched it grow. Like they say, Rome wasn’t built in a day. And I’m seeing it in its beauty right now.”The results are indeed beautiful: The Rams have won 26 of their 35 games since McVay took over. Los Angeles is 15-3 this season and on the brink of a championship despite a tumultuous autumn.Twelve people were killed less than five miles from the Rams’ training complex on Nov. 7 at the Borderline Bar and Grill. Later in the month, wildfires forced dozens of Rams employees, including Phillips, and their families to evacuate their homes.“We’ve had a lot of different challenges we’ve had to rise up to this season, and I’m so proud of our guys for how they handled it,” said left tackle Andrew Whitworth, a locker room leader and spokesman. “But to me, life in general is lived best when it’s about more than just yourself. We’ve tried to embody that in everything we do.”The Rams responded by taking care of their work and then striving to improve others’ lives. Along with extensive charity fundraising efforts fronted by quarterback Jared Goff, the team welcomed thousands of victims and first responders to their Monday night home game against Kansas City before Thanksgiving, an epic 54-51 victory.“I had so many people tell me that the game gave them some respite from what they had been going through, and that’s the best feeling,” said Whitworth, who donated one of his paychecks to relief efforts. “It’s not a burden. It’s an opportunity to inspire a whole lot of people.”

Pat’s Update: and we have another departure from the 49ersThe NFL isn’t done poaching coaches from the San Francisco 49ers. Denver Broncos beat writer Mike Klis reports that the Broncos are interviewing 49ers offensive assistant T.C. McCartney for their vacant quarterbacks coach role. This would be a huge promotion for McCartney who has worked as an offensive assistant for the last four years. While the connection to offensive coordinator Rich Scangarello is obvious Roger Craig Jersey , Klis made a great point that McCartney has connections to Colorado sports in general. His father, Sal Aunese was a University of Colorado Boulder quarterback and his grandfather, Bill McCartney was a coach for the same school. From the Broncos it makes sense also. They hired Rich Scangarello as offensive coordinator and now Scangarello is looking to fill out his position coaches. McCartney has worked as an offensive assistant for four years, so it may be time for him to get a step up in his coaching career. No job offers yet, but the 49ers might have another vacancy. Where there’s smoke there’s fire..."David Lombardi of the Athletic had a mailbag recently. Lombardi said “The more people I talk to, the more I feel the 49ers will trade back and use at least one premium pick on an offensive player.” I don’t think we’re asking the right questions. We should be focusing on what teams want to come up to number two. Teams that need a QB that are picking top 15: Raiders Arik Armstead Jersey White , Giants, Jags, Broncos, Bengals, Dolphins, Washington. Some of those teams may have placeholders Trent Taylor Jersey White , but they still need a QB. Now those teams have to ask, is there a franchise QB in this draft that is worth parting from multiple picks? The good news for the San Francisco 49ers is that all it takes is one. Even better, it’s not just limited to QB. On Thursday, Quinnen Williams visited Jacksonville. He is not going to last until the seventh pick. If a team like that falls in love and feels like whatever player is worth it, then they trade up. The Raiders are the most realistic option as they have three first round picks as well as as a second rounder. It was floated to me a couple of weeks ago that Jon Gruden loves him some Nick Bosa. For a team that struggled as much to sack the QB as Oakland did, you can see why. Oakland giving one of their other first rounders to the Niners and swapping picks 2 & 4 is a deal that we could see.Lastly http://www.49erslockerroom.com/authentic-dante-pettis-jersey , on Lombardi, he mentioned that the 49ers will use whatever pick they get if they do trade back on an offensive player. The red zone issues on offense are real. Getting a premier talent will make life easier on everyone.
