TAMPA Eddie Robinson Jersey , Fla. (AP) — The New York Yankees open the season with likely baseball’s most accomplished injured list.Luis Severino, CC Sabathia, Dellin Betances, Didi Gregorius, Aaron Hicks, Jordan Montgomery and just-about-forgotten Jacoby Ellsbury all start on the sidelines.Still, the Yankees have among the most formidable lineups in the major leagues, a power plant that includes Aaron Judge, Giancarlo Stanton and Gary Sanchez.“We’ve taken hits. It’s not the way you would draw it up, but at the same time it’s part of the playing season where you’re going to be down for a period of time,” general manager Brian Cashman said. “So when you’re dealing with them, then there’s degree of hits and these are resolvable ones. These have expiration timing tags to them. For that, you’re thankful.”New York went 100-62 last season for its best record since 2009 http://www.indiansfanproshop.com/authentic-b.j.-upton-jersey , yet finished eight games back of the AL East champion Boston Red Sox, who won the World Series for the fourth time in 15 seasons. Last year’s Yankees set a major league record with 267 homers, three more than the 1997 Seattle Mariners. New York was the first team with a dozen players to reach double digits in long balls, and the first with 20 or more from all nine spots in the batting order. This year’s lineup figures to have another blast.“Get this whole team healthy, we’re going to crush the record that we set last year,” Judge said.New York didn’t pay luxury tax last year for the first time since the penalty on high-spending teams started in 2003, showing unusual restraint. The Yankees shot back up this year after adding Adam Ottavino and DJ LeMahieu, acquiring James Paxton and re-signing Sabathia, Zack Britton, Brett Gardner and J.A. Happ.Gardner and Sabathia are the remaining links to the Yankees’ last World Series title, in 2009.“It has flown by, but it’s been way too long,” Gardner said. “I know the front office and the ownership Mike Napoli Jersey , obviously, they go out of their way to try and put the best possible team on the field every year and it’s been a disappointing 10 years. And I know for our fans it’s been disappointing, too. But as one of the guys that’s been in this room the whole time, it’s been just as disappointing, if not more so, for me. And I’ve lost probably more sleep over it than just about anybody.”The Baby Bombers of Judge, Sanchez, Gleyber Torres and Miguel Andujar helped draw an AL-high 3,482,865 fans at home last year, an average of 42,998 per game. That was up from 3,146 http://www.indiansfanproshop.com/authentic-b.j.-upton-jersey ,966 in 2017 and New York’s highest at home since the dwindling days of the Derek Jeter-Mariano Rivera era in 2012. There were 23 home sellouts, the most at new Yankee Stadium, which opened in 2009.“The expectations are great. We welcome that,” second-year manager Aaron Boone said. The Yankees open the season March 28 at home against the OriolesNEW FACESNew York failed to sign Patrick Corbin, making Paxton the biggest acquisition to bolster a rotation that includes Sabathia (38) and Happ (36). Ottavino, the first No. 0 in Yankees’ history, joins an already standout bullpen led by Aroldis Chapman and Britton, who while not a new face has a new spelling — he switched from Zach. Troy Tulowitzki was signed for the minimum salary to play shortstop until Gregorius returns this summer from Tommy John surgery.ROOKIES TO WATCHLeft-hander Stephen Tarpley could be the only rookie on the opening day roster, filling an opening created when Betances got hurt. Touted 21-year-old outfielder Estevan Florial hit .355 in 13 spring training games before breaking his right wrist.WHAT’S UP, DOC?Severino (right shoulder inflammation) will miss April, Sabathia (knee surgery and heart stent) will likely miss the first few weeks and Hicks (back) and Betances (right shoulder inflammation) also are sidelined. Gregorius (elbow ligament replacement on Oct. 17), Ellsbury (left hip surgery on Aug. 6, right foot plantar fasciitis) and Montgomery (elbow ligament replacement on June 7) are longer-term rehabs.BOUNCING BACK?Sanchez hit .186 with 18 homers and 53 RBIs last year Yonder Alonso Jersey , led the major leagues with 18 passed balls and was behind the plate for 45 wild pitches, raising his two-year totals to 34 passed balls and 98 wild pitches. First baseman Greg Bird had surgery March 27 last year to remove a broken spur on the outside of his right ankle. He did not play for the Yankees until May 26 and wound up with a .199 batting average, 11 homers and 38 RBIs over 82 games. Tulowitzki missed last season with Toronto because of surgery on April 2 for bone spurs in his right and left heels, started spring training slowly but has started to show some life at the plate. Touted outfielder Clint Frazier sustained a concussion Feb. 24 last year making a leaping catch and was limited to 15 major league games and 54 in the minors. He was hitting below .200 in spring training. GOODYEAR, Arizona (AP) — Cleveland Indians reliever Tyler Clippard is expected to miss three to four weeks because of a mild pectoral strain.Clippard, who signed a minor league contract on Feb. 23 with an invitation to spring training, left an exhibition game early on March 9 against Colorado. He felt discomfort during the return to his throwing progression this week. The former All-Star would get $2.5 million if he makes the 40-man roster. The AL Central champion Indians start the regular season on March 28.The 34-year-old right-hander, who appeared in 73 games with Toronto last season, was trying to earn a place in a bullpen that lost closer Cody Allan and top reliever Andrew Miller in the offseason.Clippard was 4-3 with a 3.67 ERA last year with the Blue Jays.Clippard has a 52-46 record with a 3.16 ERA since he started with the New York Yankees in 2007. He has pitched for eight teams in his 12-year career.

PEORIA Kendall Graveman Jersey , Ariz. (AP) — San Diego Padres catcher Austin Hedges expected to see Manny Machado make acrobatic plays at third base and hit clutch home runs. What Hedges has learned this spring about his new teammate is just how smart he is.“Everybody knows he can do that,” Hedges said of Machado’s Gold Glove-caliber defense at third base. “I think people notice the things that are God-given but they don’t get to see what we get to see and that’s the work that he puts in and the way he studies the game, which is taking a very talented player and turning him into arguably the greatest player in this game right now.”This is Machado’s first spring with the Padres after signing a $300 million, 10-year contract in February. He batted .297 with 37 homers and 107 RBIs last season.“I played against him for years and his talent speaks for itself,” Padres second baseman Ian Kinsler said. “You understand what he’s capable of on the field, that he can impact the game in many different ways offensively, defensively, and he’s a smart baserunner.”Machado, 26, also brings energy. When Fernando Tatis Jr. sprinted from first base to score in the sixth inning Friday night, Machado jumped out of the dugout to celebrate.“He’s been a great teammate,” Padres manager Andy Green said. “I have every anticipation that he will be through all the years to come.”Machado’s impact could be more important behind the scenes.“The biggest impression he’s made on me is not what he does physically,” Hedges said. “It’s not been the great plays he’s made at third, the great at-bats he’s had but it’s the way he sees the game in slow motion. I’ve tried to go out of my way to have little conversations with him, whether it’s during games, before games, after games, just any time. It’s ‘Hey, what was your thought process through this play, in this at-bat?’“You don’t do what he’s done consistently for that many years without really having a high baseball IQ. I’ve tried to let him walk me through some of his thought process and what gives him an advantage, which is his brain. He’s really, really smart. I don’t think people understand how smart he is.”First baseman Eric Hosmer has talked baseball with Machado in the dugout as well. It’s been an education.“That’s what makes him really valuable, especially as a teammate Jose Canseco Jersey ,” Hosmer said. “You’re picking his brain, you’re hearing what he says, you’re hearing the approach that he has. It’s opened a lot of guys’ eyes.”On Friday, Machado deftly handled a grounder by the Colorado Rockies’ Mark Reynolds, picking it up with his bare hand and throwing Reynolds out.“There are going to be some plays on the left side of the infield that a lot of us never thought could be done,” Hosmer said. “It’s impressive to watch. Everything is extremely smooth.”On Saturday against the Los Angeles Angels, Machado doubled in the first inning and scored one out later on Franchy Cordero’s home run. Machado also flew out to center in the third and singled in the fourth. In the Angels’ second, Machado nearly threw out Dustin Garneau, who hit a grounder down the third-base line. If teams could use replay in spring training, Green may have challenged the call.Machado is heating up at the right time, going 5 for 13 in his last four games with three RBIs and his first homer for the Padres. San Diego has one more game in Peoria on Sunday against the Cubs, and then closes the exhibition season with two games against the Seattle Mariners at T-Mobile Park on Monday and Tuesday. The Manny Machado era officially begins next Thursday at Petco Park against the San Francisco Giants.“You’ve always appreciated the way he plays against you but it’s different when you’re with guys every day, you see them practice, you see them prepare, you see the way they go about it,” Hosmer said. “It’s kind of a misconception — everyone thinks he’s naturally good and goes out there and makes it look easy. Getting to see all the work that goes in behind the scenes drives up that appreciation level you have as a player.” Things change over time. This hasn’t EDTShareTweetShareShareMadison Bumgarner will always be the unhittable freak who shattered our dreamsDenny Medley-USA TODAY SportsHe emerged out of a small opening from the clubhouse behind home plate. A few thousand fans scattered across the green seats of Surprise Stadium in Arizona shouted in his general direction, mostly in a positive manner. Yet, the clamor of noise didn’t seem to phase him as he methodically stepped left foot in front of his right in rhythmic pattern towards the endless outfield grass. He adjusted his belt at the waist while keeping his stride. His hat shaded most of his face as he gazed five feet in front of him straight at the perfectly groomed dirt. “Lets go Bumgarner,” one fan yelled from just above the visitor’s dugout. A handful of others followed in unison, raining down the encouraging phrases on the lanky 6’5 left-hander from Hickory, North Carolina.“Uptown Funk” rang from the stereos below the press box, echoing throughout the half-full park-occupied by more Royals fans than Giants. The mood emulated a calming presence as stakes couldn’t be lower in a back-end spring training game one week from Opening Day. It was Friday Jed Lowrie Jersey , March 22, 2019-temperature in the mid-’60s and no sign of a breeze anywhere. On this night, a handful of Kansas Citians tuned into Fox Sports Kansas City to catch one of the rare glimpses of this year’s Royals club on a live broadcast.Maybe time heals wounds or at least masks them until a flash of remembrance overcomes them. However, when dealing with heartbreak, forgetting isn’t as simple as being blinded by the neuralyzer from the Men in Black movies. There is no bright light that eliminates your prior experiences. 1,604 days before this night, the name “Madison Bumgarner” morphed from the unhittable pitcher to being a stamped an unprecedented villain in Kansas City sports history. Four and a half years ago, number 40 emerged from the right-field bullpen in Kauffman Stadium, stepping left foot in front of his right in rhythmic pattern-his hat shading most of his face while gazing five feet in front of him. Where in this instance, his appearance wasn’t met with encouraging remarks, but rather looks of disbelief. Some fooled themselves into believing the common man was not capable of surmounting more than one or two innings of work only four days removed from a 117 pitch complete game. But this was no common man and in no common circumstance. This was Game 7 of the World Series.Back in the desert, Bumgarner toyed with the ball in his left hand while kicking the bottom of the mound for a solid landing spot for his stride when he delivered his first pitch. There wasn’t much noise, just the sound of the ball popping the glove of first basemen Brandon Belt during warmups. Then the PA chimed in. “Leading off the right-fielder, number 15, Whit Merrifield.” Bumgarner eyed towards home plate, his gaze lifted just barely over his glove. He stepped to the side with his right leg, coiled it back up with his number angled towards the batter and slung one in. *pop. The radar gun displayed the number 89 on its pitch tracker for speed. Later in the at-bat, Merrifield cracked a single back up the middle. Then Adalberto Mondesi whacked a double to left, followed by a seeing-eye dribbler by Alex Gordon that softly rolled into the shallow outfield grass. Hunter Dozier capped off the inning by sending a missile that dented the Royals bullpen in left-tallying four total runs off the four-time all-star. His facial expression didn’t change or even twitch a muscle. At the innings merciful conclusion, the left-hander calmly kept a steady pace as he shuffled back to the dugout. It didn’t seem to phase him that during his last outing of the spring, he was bludgeoned by a group who manufactured a 104-loss season in 2018. Of course, most of this lack of frustration or dismay comes from the pointless outcomes and stats of spring training, but this didn’t take away the sense of shock that the new age Royals managed to tee-off on perhaps the most feared pitcher in the franchises existent. An Impressive performance regardless if it counted or not. Ultimately surrendering seven runs on 10 hits http://www.athleticsfanproshop.com/authentic-khris-davis-jersey , Bumgarner was chased off by the hit parade Kansas City showcased and he exited the field quietly without a whisper. Even fresh after the thrashing he took, it couldn’t be said with certainty if the perception of this athlete anomaly had changed in the slightest. His effectiveness was at the level of a fringe minor leaguer being tossed into the fire during a blowout game in mid-June. His off-speed stuff rarely fooled a soul and the fastball he uncorked was met with loud cracks of the bat, sending the ball into all gaps of the field like a spray chart. It’s true, the outing couldn’t have gone worse for the 29-year-old San Francisco ace and at times, few could question his abilities to anchor the rotation following his poor execution or lack thereof. But the negative outlook and the hammering Bumgarner took is far from the lasting image one can take away from that Friday evening. What people witnessed four years and five months ago was a single man defy logic, physics, fatigue, and limits, in the brightest of lights in the highest pressure situation imaginable. The memory of it sits like a permanent scar on forearm, contained with a riveting backstory of how it came to be. For some, the painfulness of remembering of Pablo Sandoval drop to his knees in foul territory, arms outstretched towards the night sky in jubilation can be overwhelming. The vision of the countless grey jerseys with a black and orange trim dog pile on the mound after rewriting the perfect ending to the Cinderella 2014 run by the Royals into a harsh slap of reality may send a chill down the spine. It certainly wasn’t pleasant at all for some. However, every once a while, the victory of 2015 and the triumphant return runs its way back into the minds of Royals fans everywhere and the pain ceases to exist. The hoisting of the trophy in New York seemingly put an end to the suffering of dealing with the heartbreak Bumgarner had instilled in us all. Now, with the years passing and Kansas City’s playoff prominence coming to an end, the focus shifted from World Series aspirations to rebuilding a core once again to one day return to 2014-15’s legacy. Reflecting on the back-to-back pennants and dwelling on moments in the past slowly withered away in time. But every now and then, his presence returns and the memories come flooding back. Even at his weakest moments in a glorified exhibition game, the majority of the baseball world will forget it happened a few weeks later. But to Kansas City, Bumgarner will always be the unhittable freak who singlehandedly shattered the dreams of a snake-bitten city when it comes to the postseason. Many will never forget where you were, what you were doing, and who you were with when contemplating back on that night. When dealing with this heartbreak, time is something that just can’t heal it.

Mike Elias is feeling positive http://www.bluejaysfanproshop.com/authentic-curtis-granderson-jersey , Jesus Sucre arrives in camp and more!"Morning, Birdland! This is not the first time that an Orioles player has had a break out spring. We all remember Jake Fox hitting 10 home run over 27 games back in 2011. Fox would be designated for assignment only a couple of months into the regular season. Now it’s Chance Sisco’s turn to steal the pre-season spotlight. Sisco is on pace to be even better than Fox. Through four games, Sisco is 5-for-8 with four home runs, nine RBI, two walks and just one strikeout. It’s an unsustainable pace, of course, but it’s an encouraging sign following such a disappointing 2018 season (.181/.288/.269).What makes it even more interesting is that the Orioles currently own the top pick in this summer’s draft. At this moment J.A. Happ Jersey , Oregon State backstop Adley Rutschman is slated to be the first person off the board. Could a breakout season from Sisco play a factor in whether they select Rutschman? It shouldn’t. The Orioles farm system needs as much talent as it can get. If they think Rutschman is head and shoulders above the rest of the pack, he should be the pick. Having too many good players is never a problem.LinksJes煤s Sucre on the way to O’s; first round of cuts will be coming soon - Baltimore SunThe Orioles catching situation remains up in the air despite Chance Sisco’s recent breakout. Austin Wynns on catching Hunter Harvey - Steve MelewskiThere has been a lot of buzz about Hunter Harvey at spring training. It’s unclear what his role will be in 2019. The Orioles would love to see him emerge as the viable rotation piece he once seemed poised to become. His injury history may never allow that to happen. Either way, he is likely destined for Bowie to begin the season, but could be a mainstay in the O’s bullpen by the end of the summer.One-on-One with Orioles GM Mike Elias - Baltimore BaseballPositivity aplenty! Please let this Orioles honeymoon last forever.Orioles birthdays and historyIs it your birthday? Happy Birthday! Right-handed pitcher Bud Norris is 34 years old. The current free agent spent parts of three seasons with the Orioles. He will be remembered for a steady 2014 season in which he went 15-8 with a 3.65 ERA and then put forth an ALDS-clinching performance in that postseason. Outfielder Jay Gibbons celebrates his 42nd birthday. The left-handed hitter was a prominent member of the dark ages Orioles. He hit .260/.314/.453 with 121 home runs over parts of seven seasons in Baltimore from 2001 through 2007.Infielder Leo Gomez turns 53. ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (AP) — The Boston Red Sox placed right-hander Nathan Eovaldi on the 10-day injured list on Saturday because of an elbow injury. The team, which made the move retroactive to Thursday, said Eovaldi has two “loose bodies” in his right elbow. He has had two Tommy John operations and also had surgery last year to remove loose bodies in the elbow.“It’s just frustrating when you’re coming off a good outing and you’re taking the right steps forward Jesse Barfield Jersey , and you have to have this and you just can’t throw,” said Eovaldi, who informed the Red Sox on Thursday night that he could not straighten his right arm.He had pitched six innings against the New York Yankees on Wednesday night.Eovaldi and Dave Dombrowski, Red Sox president of baseball operations, said the injury appears to be similar to the one that sidelined the pitcher for the first two months of 2018.It has yet to be determined whether more surgery is the best option.“Don’t know until the doctor takes a look at it,” Dombrowski said. “He’s going to see the doctor on Monday in New York, and we’ll know more at that point.”Dombrowski described the problem as “just a very small piece in there http://www.bluejaysfanproshop.com/authentic-curtis-granderson-jersey , but it’s in the wrong place.”Eovaldi is 0-0 with a 6.00 ERA in four starts. One of my favorite songs of his is “Standing Outside the Fire”. The lyrics above are from that song, and I feel are very applicable to the Braves. If Tiger Woods has become the official meme, then these words should be the official theme. The Braves pitching staff is fully intent on giving Hotlanta a new meaning. In 2018, The Braves were third in the league for most games giving up 5 walks or more, with 53. In 2019, they are averaging five walks a game. For individual pitchers, Julio Teheran and Sean Newcomb were first and third amongst starters in number of starts giving up three walks or morein 2018. In their three combined starts this year, they have issued nine total walks. The Braves are consistently playing with fire, and have been burned multiple times already this year. Despite the horrid control issues to start the season, the Braves have had some very needed and encouraging results over the past three games. Max Fried Justin Smoak Jersey , Kevin Gausman, and Kyle Wright have combined for 19 IP, a 16/3 K/BB ratio, 8 hits allowed, and only 2 runs. Combined with Folty returning in the next week, these dominant starts may have put a few rotation spots up for grabs, including Newcomb’s.As a result, Newcomb needs a solid start on Sunday. Furthermore, the Braves need it as well. Despite 3 straight games of the starters going 6 or more innings, the bullpen has still given up 6 runs in that stretch. They were 10 feet away from that being 10 runs on StarlinCastro’s deep fly ball to end the game with the bases loaded Friday night. The last thing the Braves need is for Newcomb to struggle early in the game and getting into a high pitch count early. Unfortunately, Newcomb likely will not be working in the most ideal conditions to be productive. A hamstring injury has placed Brian McCann on the IL. A triple digit heater to the hand has cast doubt on Tyler Flowers’s ability to play. As a result http://www.bluejaysfanproshop.com/authentic-curtis-granderson-jersey , Alex Jackson may get his first start Sunday at catcher in the major leagues. And while Jackson has good potential at the plate, he is still a work in progress behind it. Newcomb will need to be on top of his game with a rookie catcher potentially making his debut.Thankfully, there is a silver lining. The Braves will be facing a southpaw in the person of Caleb Smith on Sunday. This obviously is a positive development with the Braves overwhelming success against left-handers since the beginning of 2018. The ironic thing is that in Smith’s one career start against Atlanta last year, it was left-handed Braves’ hitters who had the most success. Freddie Freeman had five hits while Ender Inciarte contributed 3 of his own. Ozzie Albies may have had his best game so far in the big leagues that day as well, earning a career high 5 RBIS. As mentioned above, there should be no doubt this is a big start for Sean Newcomb. With the Braves drastically needing another deep performance from a starter, Newcomb needs to perform well against one of the weaker lineups in baseball. Furthermore, coming off some unlucky hard-hit outs on Saturday night, the Braves’ hitters should have plenty of motivation to do some damage. Even if Newcomb struggles, the offense should find enough success to pull off the win. BOLD PREDICTION: Alex Jackson’s first hit is for extra bases, and the Braves hit multiple homers. Martinez didn't sign his deal with the reigning World Series champions until spring training last year and isn't surprised this offseason's market is again moving at a slow pace.Martinez was asked if he thought the market would move in a similar fashion this year and called free agency "embarrassing for baseball," per Rob Bradford of WEEI:"One-hundred-percent. I knew it was Why wouldn't it? They got away with it last year, why wouldn't they do it again? What's going to happen? Nothing. It's embarrassing for baseball, it really is. It's really embarrassing for the game. You have a business. They say, 'The market is down, the market is changing.' The market is higher than it's ever been. People are making more money than ever http://www.bluejaysfanproshop.com/authentic-curtis-granderson-jersey , and they're trying to suppress it. It's more of a race towards the bottom now than a race towards the top. You can go right now through everyone's lineup and you already know who's going to be in the playoffs. What's the fun in that? We might as well just fast-forward to the end of the season."Martinez went on to say "losing is incentivized now," when pointing out there are fewer teams fighting for free agents as many notable players remained unsigned with spring training underway. "You have 80 percent of the teams trying to lose."His comments come with Bryce Harper, Dallas Keuchel and Craig Kimbrel among those who have not signed with a team. Manny Machado didn't sign with the San Diego Padres until teams reported to spring training, and there are enough free agents remaining to swing the World Series race if contenders make a move before Opening Day.Martinez is not the only one to criticize what is happening around the league, as Houston Astros ace Justin Verlander called the system "broken," while reigning National League MVP Christian Yelich criticized "anti player rhetoric."The reality from last year is teams are not spending the same percentages of the revenues they generate as they did in the past.Maury Brown of Forbes provided the numbers underscoring that reality, pointing out the $10.3 billion in gross revenues the league generated in 2018 was "another record year." However, 54.2 percent of the revenues went to the players, which represented approximately a 4 percent drop from the prior year.It was the largest salary-to-revenues drop since 2012, when it dropped more than 6 percent. The percentage hasn't increased from the previous year since 2015.Martinez stressed how important it is for players to fight the current patterns in 2021 for the next collective bargaining agreement.

After all, they’ve scored a National League Central leading 72 runs through the first 10 games of 2019. However, the pitching has been less than stellar, giving up a National League Central leading 71 runs in that same span. Most articles so far have rightly focused on the bullpen. That’s understandable Duane Kuiper Jersey , after all, multiple losses in games where the team has scored 10 runs will cause that sort of evaluation. However, today I want to take a closer look at the Cubs starting pitching because there is a different problem lurking behind their numbers. Two of the Cubs’ five starters are being hit hard. Actually, that doesn’t really cover what I’m trying to say here at all. Two of the Cubs five starters are being absolutely demolished by opposing hitters, let’s take a closer look below.BarrelsStatcast data is available at baseball savant and it’s a wealth of information about players. These are the people tracking things like exit velocity, sprint speed and, one of my favorite stats, barrels. Barrels are balls that are hit perfectly. It’s a combination of exit velocity and launch angle, and signifies a sort of ideal zone of contact for a hitter. Statcast defines barrels as follows: Think of these as perfectly struck baseballs. They might become home runs. they might become outs, but they are hit about as well as the baseball possibly be hit. At the risk of being accused of gratuitous Willson Contreras footage, this is a barrel [VIDEO].Your browser does not support HTML5 video. And here’s what it looks like in Statcast form:Now, as much as I love watching barrels when the Cubs are hitting, one of the signs of a good pitcher is avoiding that type of contact. In fact http://www.giantsfanproshop.com/authentic-evan-longoria-jersey , from 2014-2018 I think it will surprise no one that one of the pitchers who has been pretty good at limiting barrels in the major leagues is none other than Kyle Hendricks, as you can see below:Kyle Hendricks Barrels by YearStatcast - Baseball SavantI’m sure you can spot the outlier on that chart as well as I can. Through two starts in 2019 Hendricks just doesn’t look like himself and if you found yourself thinking “wow, it looks like he’s getting hit really hard,” well, you were right:Pitchers with the most barrels per batted ball eventLast NameFirst NameBBELaunch AngleSweet Spot %Max EVAvg EVFB/LD EVGB EVEV 95+EV 95%BarrelsBarrel %Barrel/PALast NameFirst NameBBELaunch AngleSweet Spot %Max EVAvg EVFB/LD EVGB EVEV 95+EV 95%BarrelsBarrel %Barrel/PAMost barrels per batted ball event 2019Statcast - Baseball SavantThe chart above is sorted for the percent of barrels per batted ball event for pitchers with at least 15 batted balls in 2019. In other words, it’s my attempt to limit this to starters with at least two starts under their belts. While the numbers for Kyle Hendricks are alarming, the company he’s keeping is also a bit terrifying. Two of the Cubs five starters are in the top 10 in terms of barrel percent. Cole Hamels is also giving up an enormous amount of hard contact and that doesn’t bode well for 2019:Cole Hamels barrels by yearStatcast - Baseball SavantBelow I’ll look at four possible contributing factors to the shockingly high barrel rates Cubs’ starters are posting in 2019.The strike zoneArguing balls and strikes is usually a futile exercise and I’m not looking to highlight how blown calls have impacted particular games. However, one thing Hendricks and Hamels have in common is that they are finesse pitchers who rely heavily on locating their pitches perfectly. The maximum velocity fastball either of them is capable of dropping during a given start is about 92 MPH, suffice to say they aren’t blowing stuff past batters. The parameters of the strike zone on a given night are going to impact finesse pitchers more than the Noah Syndergaards of the world who can reach back for a 98 MPH fastball when he needs it.We can get an idea of where each pitcher is locating a ball by looking at their pitch location for each start so far. Take a look at the balls and strikes called in each outing for Hendricks:Hendricks pitches v. BravesStatcast - Baseball SavantHendricks pitches v. BrewersStatcast - Baseball SavantNow let’s take a look at the same maps for Hamels:Hamels pitches v. RangersStatcast - Baseball SavantHamels pitches v. BrewersStatcast - Baseball SavantPitch location Two things jumped out at me in the above maps and it’s different for each pitcher. Kyle Hendricks appears to be getting an accurate strike zone called, but he’s throwing more balls higher in the zone. That’s a departure from previous years where he’s tended to stay down and on the corners to induce more ground ball contact. Here is one of Hendricks’ better starts against the Diamondbacks last September where Hendricks pitched 8鈪?innings with the following line: 3H 1R 1ER 1BB 8K:Hendricks pitches v. Diamondbacks 2018Statcast - Baseball SavantHamels is having a different problem. He’s throwing balls in generally the same place but he’s not getting a large number of calls. That is forcing him into the zone where he’s giving up hard contact like this disastrous pitch against Delino DeShields [VIDEO].Your browser does not support HTML5 video.Catchers/framingFor Hamels, at least, that’s a lot of blown calls, some of which are close and some of which are less close. One thing that’s important to note Derek Holland Jersey , however, is that at least in Hamels’ starts, this isn’t a problem of Contreras’ framing. Victor Caratini has caught both of Hamels’ starts and Contreras has caught Hendricks. It is possible that both of the Cubs’ young catchers are struggling with framing (and the early epidemic of catchers interference seems to indicate that’s true). Regardless, while the Cubs’ catchers may be part of the solution here, Hamels and Hendricks do better with a more expansive zone on the low corners. Since the front office hasn’t seemed interested in adding catching help, they’ll need to work on pitch placement another way.VelocityHendricks is throwing the ball slower in 2019 than in 2018, however, I don’t think this is cause for alarm. I remember writing about this at the start of last season as well. Like Lester, Kyle seems to warm up over the course of the season and their lower velocity to start 2019 is in line with their lower velocity in 2018. Hendricks velocity by pitch type by yearBrooks BaseballHamels’ velocity looks pretty much identical to his last three major league seasons:Hamels velocity by pitch type by yearBrooks BaseballTakeawaysAdmittedly, these are small sample sizes and should be expected to even out over the course of a 162-game season. My sincere hope is that the hard contact that Hendricks and Hamels are giving up is more of a fluke than a trend, but it’s worth keeping an eye on as the weather gets warmer and hitters heat up. It could be a long season with the wind blowing out at Wrigley if Hamels and Hendricks continue to give up barrels at these rates.

Nobody has ever questioned Jorge Alfaro’s talent. The Marlins are betting that he’ll be able to refine those tools."By Wins Above Replacement (2.1 fWAR) http://www.piratesfanproshop.com/authentic-josh-bell-jersey , Alfaro performed like a solid starting catcher in his rookie campaign. However, there continue to serious concerns under the hood. That WAR doesn’t fully incorporate his below-average receiving skills, or account for the fact that his .406(!!!) batting average on balls in play will come back down to Earth. The Marlins are betting on their coaching staff and Alfaro’s work ethic to unlock his full potential, legitimate star potential that the industry saw in him from a very young age.Miami’s alternatives at catcher for this coming season—Chad Wallach and Bryan Holaday—offer workload management rather than genuine competition. FORT MYERS Sonny Gray Jersey , Fla. (AP) — It wasn’t an offseason weight-loss program, but pitcher David Price is entering the 2019 season much lighter.A tremendous burden has been lifted from his shoulders. The Boston Red Sox lefty has finally gotten rid of the postseason demons that had been haunting him for much of his 11-season career.“I do (feel that way), so yeah,” Price said. “It felt good to go out there and perform on that level. I know how many doubters are out there and whatnot, and that’s fine. It felt good to go out there and to be able to prove myself right. That was what it was all about.”Helping the Red Sox to the 2018 World Series championship — the first of Price’s career — can have that effect. Price earned two of his team’s four World Series wins — including the Game 5 clincher against the Dodgers — appearing in three games, with two starts, posting a 1.98 ERA. Some thought he was a legitimate candidate for the World Series MVP honor which went to teammate Steve Pearce. Before last season, Price was 2-8 in 17 postseason games with Tampa Bay, Detroit, Toronto and Boston, and had never won in any of his nine starts.“To be a world champion,” he said Luis Severino Jersey , “that’s why I play the game, to be able to experience that at this level. It definitely feels good.”Price, as with all Red Sox veteran starting pitchers, was brought along slowly this spring then was slowed by an illness. He will make his final preseason tuneup Tuesday in Arizona against the Cubs. But Price, the 2012 AL Cy Young winner while with Tampa Bay, has assured manager Alex Cora he is ready to start the season.“I trust him,” Cora said. “If he tells me he’s ready, he’s ready.”The Red Sox open the season Thursday night at Seattle. The 33-year-old is entering the fourth season of a seven-year, $217 million deal. It hasn’t always been easy for him in Boston, on the field or off.He has caused some controversy with comments he’s made and in 2017 was limited by injury to 11 starts. He is 39-19 in 81 games with the Red Sox, including 16-7 in 30 starts last year. His goal now is to prove last season — especially his postseason — was not a fluke.“I’ve said it many times. I didn’t come here to win one World Series,” he said. “I came here to win multiple World Series. We won one last year and we want to do it again.”And http://www.yankeesfanproshop.com/authentic-giancarlo-stanton-jersey , if he does, he’ll savor it more this time.“When Cora hugged me on the field right after we won, the first thing I said to him was, ‘I want to do it again next year,'” Price said. “I think the first time you ever go through something like that, you don’t really grasp what’s going on and get to enjoy it the way you should enjoy that moment.“To go through it once, to experience all of that — I think if you get back to that point again in your career, you can really kind of sit back and take in everything and it’s something I’m definitely looking forward to having the opportunity to do.” NEW YORK — On Wednesday as the outs accumulated in the wild-card game against the Oakland Athletics, a sellout crowd at Yankee Stadium began chanting “We Want Boston” repeatedly.By winning Game 2, the Yankees are assured of two games against the Boston Red Sox in the American League Division Series and the winner of Monday’s game will be one game away from clinching a trip to the American League Championship Series.“I think you know it’s a series that’s capable of going the distance,” Boston star right fielder Mookie Betts said. “I don’t think you expect to sweep. You’ve got two great teams here, it’s a best-of-five. It’s going to be fun.”Article continues below ...The Red Sox opened the series by taking a five-run lead through three innings Friday before holding on for a 5-4 win. The Yankees evened things by getting two homers from Gary Sanchez and Aaron Judge’s third homer of the postseason in a 6-2 victory on Saturday.“It’s been huge Aaron Judge Jersey ,” Yankees reliever Dellin Betances said. “I’ve never played in an atmosphere like playing in New York in the postseason for the last couple of years. It’s been unbelievable. It’s going to be even crazier now that we’re playing Boston.”The Red Sox are making their first trip to the current Yankee Stadium for a postseason game. The longtime rivals missed playing each other in 2009 and last season when the Red Sox lost in the Division Series. This time, the first series before the World Series pitting 100-win teams in the wild-card era since 1995, has been defined by the bullpens.New York’s bullpen posted a 3.38 ERA and struck out 753 in 594 2/3 innings and so far, is living up to its notoriety. In the first two games, it has allowed a run in 10 innings while the Red Sox are 6-for-33 (.182) against Yankee relievers.Boston’s bullpen posted a 3.72 ERA during the regular season but allowed 32 percent of inherited runners to score and the Yankees are aware of trying to get to it early. In the first two games, the Yankees saw 212 pitches against the relievers and went 10-for-42 (.239) with eight walks.“You want to affect that bullpen as best we can,” Judge said. “It’s a five-game series, and if we can wear them down and get them using that bullpen early, that’s a good thing.”Both teams were forced to use their bullpens extensively due to short outings as New York’s J.A. Happ exited after getting six outs in Game 1 while David Price departed after recording five outs Saturday. On Monday, the rivals will hope for lengthy outings from Nathan Eovaldi and Luis Severino, though with how aggressively both managers use relievers, lengthy could be defined as five or six innings.Eovaldi was originally slated to start Game 4 but Boston manager Alex Cora opted to save Rick Porcello for then.Eovaldi will be making his first career postseason start on a familiar mound. Before needing Tommy John surgery in 2016 Gleyber Torres Jersey , he was 23-11 with a 4.45 ERA in 51 appearances for the Yankees and is 10-5 with a 3.70 ERA in 26 appearances at Yankee Stadium.“This is my first postseason start,” Eovaldi said Sunday. “I’m excited. This is what we play for, coming out of spring training and preparing for this moment. I’m excited, ready to go. It’s definitely probably the most important game I’ve ever pitched in.”The right-hander is pitching for the first time since throwing the first two innings of an 8-5 loss to the Yankees Sept. 29 at Fenway. He faced the Yankees three times after being acquired from Tampa Bay and did not allow an earned run in 16 innings.“We know he’s going to be throwing hard and he’s going to mix it up,” Cora said. “He’s had success against them. Seems like it’s a good matchup.”Meanwhile, the Yankees are banking on Severino, who allowed two hits in five-plus innings in the 7-2 win in the wild-card game. Severino won 19 games during the regular season but was 5-6 with a 5.57 ERA in 12 starts after the All-Star break.Severino went 2-1 with a 2.04 ERA in his final three regular-season starts heading into the wild-card game when he navigated through four walks while throwing 87 pitches. Now he gets to pitch in New York’s first home postseason game against the Red Sox since the infamous Game 7 of the 2004 ALCS, which was played when the right-hander was a 10-year-old in the Dominican Republic.“I think at that time I didn’t even have even TV,” Severino said of his memories from the last postseason meeting between the teams. “I’m not even sure. But I think I’ve been shown the highlights. It will be fun. Really fun.”In the postseason, Severino is 1-1 with a 4.50 ERA in five starts. One of those outings was Game 4 of last year’s ALDS against Cleveland, when he allowed three runs in seven innings.Severino was 2-2 with a 3.56 ERA in five starts against the Red Sox during the regular season. Both teams have injury questions with their starting lineups.New York center fielder Aaron Hicks missed Game 2 with right hamstring tightness and is expected to play Monday. Boston first baseman Mitch Moreland exited Game 2 with the same injury as Hicks after scoring on Ian Kinsler’s double in the seventh.Hicks and Moreland are considered day-to-day and neither is expected to be removed from the roster.

It was an alright tripByMerritt RohlfingDec 15, 2018, 10:22am ESTShareTweetShareShareThe quiet end of the Edwin Encarnacion EraThomas B. Shea-USA TODAY SportsThe Edwin Encarnacion Era has come to an abrupt end. Generally expected to be in Cleveland for another year, the Tribe turned Edwin and Yandy Diaz into Jake Bauers and two more years of Carlos Santana on Thursday. There are many complex feelings around this trade. Most all of them will be covered somewhere on this site. But I want to talk about Edwin, and how really, it just never felt right, did it? It’s not a knock on Edwin, or at least it doesn’t mean to be. He was a fine player for the Indians. He did about everything expected of him. It was just so out of character for them to even sign him. Like, prior to him a “big free agent signing” was Nick Swisher and Michael Bourn after he’d overvalued himself. So watching the Indians go and drop some $60 million on him was amazing and a bit baffling at the same time. It made you question what was real. It was for less money and years than he was searching for - he wanted $80 million over 4 years, he ended with 3/60 and an option year - and it seemed like, as MLB.com’s Jordan Bastian wrote at the time, a perfect fit. But at the same time, it just seemed so鈥?off. Out of sync with reality. Not in a bad way you understand, but the Indians are not the team to go out and spend money. It’s one of the traditions of the offseason when you follow the team - complaining about the Dolans being cheap. We get to do it this year because they’re supposed to be shedding salary. But with Edwin, suddenly they were signing the big bat. Which was strange, ill-fitting, even if it was kind of cool. He had a role to fill as Mike Napoli - who somehow fit right in, probably the Tito connection, maybe the big bushy beard - departed, and he did that and more at that and more at the plate. But something was missing. And that was the thing with Edwin as a whole. He was a good, solid player for the Indians. In his two years in Cleveland he posted basically his career averages Masahiro Tanaka Jersey , popped 70 homers and was a central part of the offense. Not the keystone like in Toronto, but he played an important role. It could be that it was the camera work or bad timing, or just how he expresses himself, but when the broadcast cut to him I rarely got the sense he was “part” of the team. Not like Kipnis or Lindor or Ramirez or Brantley, not like the guys who we’ve watched flourish in an Indians uniform. There wasn’t the fiddling about in the dugout. Maybe that’s not him, I don’t know. He was a hired gun at the very base of it all, as embraced by the fanbase as one can be when they launch baseballs into the scoreboard, but it never felt or looked cohesive. Luckily for everyone, baseball doesn’t need cohesion. You can have a team where everyone hates everyone and they can win a million games, just as you can assemble the most kumbaya clubhouse in the majors and watch as they fall to the bottom of the league. With Encarnacion on the team the Indians won 102 games and took 22 straight and it was amazing. During that stretch Edwin posted a .909 OPS and popped 5 home runs. Which is good, though not otherworldly. It was a bit better than his season numbers - .881 OPS, and 5 homers in 22 games works out to 36 over 162 - So he was who he was at the pinnacle of the Tribe season. He was dreadful in October - when he got to play - but the whole team was, so who really cares? Even that didn’t draw that much ire, especially with how guys like Jose Ramirez struggled. It’s like expectations weren’t that high, which for a supposedly big free agent signing is strange in itself. This was a beloved player in Toronto. For the parrot, for the dingers, for the camaraderie with Jose Bautista, and his leaving was heartbreaking to a lot of Jays fans. For the same reason Carlos Santana leaving was for Indians fans. This was a player they saw turn from a young kid into an absolute behemoth, and he was all theirs. And then he left. Cleveland fans have lived that story all too many times, so being on the other side of it was strange.Things have reverted, at least in Tribe Town. Edwin is starting the usual path of the aging slugger Paul O'Neill Jersey , wending his way through the cheap teams trying to eke another solid year or two out of him as his powers erode. He’ll of course be missed in Cleveland. That inside-the-park homer in Anaheim was amazing, so were all the moonshots that nearly knocked John Adams out. But it’s not a painful exit, for so many reasons. Hopefully he helps Seattle, or Tampa, or whoever, and has another season of tape measure shots. I won’t really be looking in, not like I did with Santana or probably even will with Diaz. Now that’s a player I’ve barely even seen play baseball, and yet seeing him go is a tiny gut punch. Edwin was a nice surprise, like a free cookie. But like that tasty chocolate chip, you enjoy it for what it is, and move on. There will be other cookies. The Indians have one right now. This analogy has gone too far. But it’ll be an era looked back on with something resembling fondness, though it won’t be him at the center of those memories. It’s a strange way to view a player of his stature. But that’s just the way it is. 30 years after the most memorable moment in Dodgers history, we look back at the improbable ninth inning that helped the Dodgers win the 1988 World Series."WhiteFanposts Fanshots Sections 2019 Spring TrainingProspectsCommentaryNews and NotesPuigs in a blanketDodgers History & RecordsRemembering Kirk Gibson’s walk-off home run 30 years laterNew,29commentsByBlakeHarris@BlakeHarrisTBLAOct 15, 2018,2:05pm PDTShareTweetShareShareRemembering Kirk Gibson’s walk-off home run 30 years laterOn October 15, 1988, Kirk Gibson delivered one of the most iconic moments in baseball history. Down to his final strike, Gibson homered to right field, giving the Dodgers a 5-4 victory over the Oakland A’s in the World Series. The Dodgers trailed 4-3 in the bottom of the ninth, with arguably the best closer in the game on the mound. Dennis Eckersley http://www.yankeesfanproshop.com/authentic-giancarlo-stanton-jersey , who had 45 saves on the season, looked as if he was going to lock down the ninth and secure the game 1 win. He got Mike Scioscia to pop out, and then proceeded to strike out Jeff Hamilton. With two outs, Mike Davis stepped up to the plate. After spending eight years with Oakland, Davis had a disappointing year with LA. On the year, Davis hit .196 with a .260 on-base percentage. On the season, Eckersley allowed only 13 walks. He got ahead in the count 0-1, but then threw four straight balls, allowing Davis to reach with a two-out walk. For Eckersley, it was the third time all year he issued a walk with two outs and the bases empty. With a runner on first and two outs, manager Tommy Lasorda turned to Kirk Gibson, looking for a pinch-hit homer to win the game. Gibson battled injuries during the postseason, hurting his left hamstring in game 5 of the NLCS, and hurting his right knee in game 7. Not in the starting lineup for game 1, it appeared Gibson wasn’t going to suit up. Later in the game, the camera panned across the Dodgers dugout, with Gibson nowhere in sight. Supposedly Gibson heard Vin Scully’s comments and decided to go take some practice swings in the clubhouse. On the season, Gibson hit .290 with 25 homers 76 RBI and took home MVP honors. Gibson hobbled up to the plate with two bad legs, ready to face the best closer in the game. He swung at the first pitch, fouling it off into the stands. After the swing, Gibson limped around http://www.yankeesfanproshop.com/authentic-giancarlo-stanton-jersey , looking as if he could barely walk. Eckersley delivered the second pitch, and it was the same result. Gibson fouled it off, looking like he could barely stand up. On the third pitch, Gibson dribbled one up the first base line. Struggling to get out of the box and run to first, the ball rolled foul. It looked as if Gibson stood no chance, and was one pitch away from losing the game. After battling through the at-bat, Gibson managed to even the count at 2-2. On the next pitch, Davis stole second, his eighth stolen base of the season. Now, standing at second, all the Dodgers needed from Gibson was a single to tie the game. The count stood at 3-2. After seeing fastball after fastball, Gibson connected on a backdoor slider, sending it into the right field pavilion to give LA the 5-4 win. 30 years later, the moment is just as memorable as ever. It’s cemented into every baseball fan’s memory. Watching Gibson struggle to round the bases, hearing Vin Scully’s memorable call, it will forever remain timeless. With their series against the Brewers currently tied at one game a piece, the Dodgers will look to recreate some of that same magic, and deliver the first World Series to Los Angeles in three decades.

The Orioles won two out of three from the Yankees! I still can’t believe it. Enjoy the fun while there’s fun to enjoy."Hello, friends.Have you heard the news? The Orioles still have a winning record after three games this season! After an almost unbelievable weekend of baseball, the O’s, who won 47 games last season, came away with two wins on the road against the Yankees, who won 100 games last season. Baseball can still be fun sometimes. It’s nice when it is.If you missed yesterday’s rain-delayed, 7-5 win in the Bronx, check out Stacey Folkemer’s recap of the action Michael Wacha Jersey , including John Means’s first MLB win, and don’t forget to register your vote in the Most Birdland Player poll.Last year, the Orioles were never above .500 again after winning on Opening Day. With two wins this weekend, they’ve made it at least two games farther into the 2019 regular season calendar, since they’re now 2-1. It’s not quite good enough for first place, because the Rays have already played four games and they’re 3-1, so the O’s are half a game behind for the American League East lead. They are in second place with a three-game trip to Toronto awaiting them next.A funny thing happened to me watching the Orioles this weekend. Once they had staked themselves to leads on Saturday and Sunday, I actually like... cared whether they won or lost. After last year’s pathetic performance and the expected dismal season this year I figured that I would just be numb to whatever happened. I was certainly numb last year by the time May rolled around and it was clear there was nothing to look forward to or even break up the drudgery until the July trades rolled around. That feeling may yet set in for 2019, because even in winning two games the O’s still demonstrated that what you thought their flaws would be are, in fact, going to be big flaws. Two starting pitchers have now pitched and zero of them pitched well. There are no sure things in the bullpen. Chris Davis hasn’t dispelled any of the narrative surrounding his performance last year, so much so that during yesterday’s game on MASN Ozzie Smith Jersey , Jim Palmer was in disbelief that the Yankees did not walk Joey Rickard intentionally in order to have a lefty-lefty matchup against Davis. Nor was he wrong. Rickard homered! Still, “Joey Rickard should have been intentionally walked” is a wild phrase to say or write. The reality is still there about the Orioles. They are going to lose a lot of games. But we can all enjoy the fun parts of this season while they’re fun. If the Orioles go on to lose 120 games, nobody can take this one happy weekend away from us. Well, not really “confusing”, but I have to pause and figure out which one came from a strange and distant land populated by weird people Julio Teheran Jersey , and which one came from Korea. :) I guess it’s the “new kid in town” thing: I’m not sure the last time the back of the D-backs’ Opening Day rotation featured a pair of off-season acquisitions like Weaver and Kelly. So far, Weaver has certainly been the more impressive, with six strikeouts and no walks over his 6.1 innings thus far, and an ERA of 2.84. He has allowed his share of hits (eight), but avoiding the free passes has helped diminish the impact of those. Speaking to Arizona Sports earlier in the week, he said a failure to avoid the big innings was part of the reason why his ERA ballooned last year. “Your blood pressure starts to rise a little bit and the game just speeds up on you http://www.bravesfanproshop.com/authentic-nick-markakis-jersey , everything just kinda moves so just being able to step off breathe a little bit and realize, ‘OK what’s the execution need to be right here. Mike Trout is about to cash in.Big time.Trout and the Los Angeles Angels are close to finalizing a $432 million http://www.redsfanproshop.com/authentic-cliff-pennington-jersey , 12-year contract that would shatter the record for the largest deal in North American sports history, a person familiar with the negotiations told The Associated Press. The deal was disclosed Tuesday by a person familiar with the negotiations who spoke to the AP on condition of anonymity because the agreement had not been finalized. The contract was likely to be announced by the end of this week, the person said.Hours later, news broke that Alex Bregman and the Houston Astros have agreed on a $100 million, six-year deal that keeps the All-Star third baseman under contract with the team through 2024, according to a person with direct knowledge of the situation.Trout would set a baseball record for career earnings at about $513 million, surpassing the roughly $448 million Alex Rodriguez took in with Seattle, Texas and the New York Yankees from 1994-2017.Trout’s latest deal would top the new $330 million, 12-year contract between Bryce Harper and the Philadelphia Phillies, and Trout’s $36 million average annual value would surpass pitcher Zack Greinke’s $34.4 million in a six-year deal with Arizona that started in 2016. The contract also would best Mexican boxer Canelo Alvarez’s $356 million deal with sports-streaming service DAZN.Progress toward an agreement was first reported by ESPN.Whether Trout’s contract is the largest in the world for a team athlete is difficult to determine. Forbes estimated Lionel Messi earned $84 million from Barcelona in 2017-18 and Cristiano Ronaldo $61 million from Real Madrid, but precise details of their contracts are not known.A 27-year-old entering what should be his prime years, Trout is considered baseball’s top player and would have been coveted as a free agent after the 2020 season. He lives in southern New Jersey, and Harper said he was excited about trying to recruit Trout to join him in Philadelphia.Although Trout recently built a home in his native New Jersey, he is staying on the West Coast with the Angels, who are coming off three straight losing seasons and haven’t won a playoff game during his career.Trout and wife Jessica have made no secret of how much they enjoy living in laid-back Southern California, and the low-key outfielder apparently decided to skip the pressure of free agency entirely.Trout has been an All-Star in each of his seven full big league seasons and hit .312 with 39 homers, 79 RBIs, 24 steals and 122 walks last year. He has led the major leagues in OPS in each of the last two seasons.Bregman’s agreement includes this season, buys out three years of arbitration eligibility (2020-22) and pushes back his opportunity to become a free agent by two years. The person who spoke about that deal did so on condition of anonymity because details had not been released by the team. The agreement was first reported by KRIV-FOX 26.The 24-year-old Bregman made his first All-Star team last season and was selected MVP of the game after hitting a home run to help the American League win. He set career highs with a .286 batting average, 31 homers, 103 RBIs and a major league-leading 51 doubles, finishing fifth in AL MVP balloting. The second overall pick in the 2015 amateur draft out of LSU, Bregman has hit .282 with 58 homers and 208 RBIs in 2½ seasons with the Astros Anthony DeSclafani Jersey , helping them win consecutive AL West titles and the 2017 World Series. Daniel Murphy homered and Nolan Arenado got two hits. BRADENTON, Fla. (AP) — The Pittsburgh Pirates believe Jameson Taillon, Trevor Williams, Joe Musgrove and Chris Archer give them a good start to their rotation. The next move is figuring out who will take the fifth slot after Ivan Nova was traded to the Chicago White Sox in the offseason. Four pitchers are contending for the job: left-hander Steven Brault and right-handers Nick Kingham, Jordan Lyles and Rookie Davis.Brault and Kingham both pitched two scoreless innings in their first starts of the exhibition season while Lyles allowed one run in two innings. Davis has yet to pitch as he signed a minor league contract Feb. 18, a week after pitchers and catchers reported to spring training.Brault had made 16 starts and 48 relief appearances for the Pirates over the last three seasons, going 7-6 with a 4.68 ERA. He was the International League Pitcher of the Year in 2016 at Triple-A Indianapolis but has yet to gain a foothold in the major leagues.During the offseason Michael Lorenzen Jersey , Brault overhauled his pitching mechanics and altered his throwing program. He then threw 19 of his 23 pitches for strikes against the Philadelphia Phillies last Saturday.“You take all that time in the offseason and you obviously want to do well,” Brault said. “It doesn’t mean everything was perfect or anything like that. It’s just one outing. But it’s nice to get the results I want. It’s a step in the right direction.”Kingham’s career started off in the right direction when he made his major league debut last April 29 and retired the first 20 batters on his way to beating the St. Louis Cardinals. He faded as the season wore on, however, and finished with a 5-7 record and 5.21 ERA in 18 games, including 15 starts. What could help Kingham’s cause is that he is out of minor league options. The Pirates would need to expose him to waivers if they try to send him down.Kingham, 27, realizes it is too early to get too excited about one start but was pleased to begin the exhibition season with a solid effort against the Miami Marlins.“I think any impression you make is going to stand on its own until your next one,” Kingham said. “Anytime you go out to the mound, you want to make a good impression. It might be the last one you get, so you always want to be good and you always want to leave a good impression in the coaches’ minds, and the decision-makers’.”Signed to a $2.05 million, one-year contract as a free agent in the offseason, Lyles is the most experienced of the four candidates. The 28-year-old has pitched for the Houston Astros, Colorado Rockies, San Diego Padres and Milwaukee Brewers in his eight-year career, compiling a 31-52 record and 5.28 ERA.“You just continue to do what you think is best to get major league hitters out,” Lyles said. “Obviously, you’re trying to get outs. Nobody is going to stand out there on the mound and say, ‘Here’s the ball, hit it.’ Not giving up runs is the No. 1 goal obviously, but I’m also looking to work on things and find the right spots to work on them.”The Pirates have yet to schedule Davis’ first game appearance, though he pitched two innings in a simulated game Tuesday. The 25-year-old made his major league debut with Cincinnati in 2017 by making six starts but spent last season in the Reds’ farm system after recovering from hip surgery.

G Fiume/Getty ImagesChicago Cubs third baseman Kris Bryant said Friday that players are "pretty upset" outfielder Bryce Harper and shortstop Manny Machado http://www.marinersfanproshop.com/authentic-edgar-martinez-jersey , the offseason's most notable free agents, remain unsigned with spring training less than a month away.Jesse Rogers of ESPN.com provided comments about the situation from Bryant, who suggested there are "not enough teams trying to be competitive.""It's really weird," he said. "Two of the best players in the game, and they have very little interest in them, from just what I hear. It's not good. It's something that will have to change. I know a lot of the other players are pretty upset about it."Fellow third baseman Evan Longoria of the San Francisco Giants also weighed in on the situation with an Instagram post Friday featuring pictures of Harper, Machado, closer Craig Kimbrel and starting pitcher Dallas Keuchel:"We are less then a month from the start of spring and once again some of our games biggest stars remain unsigned. Such a shame. It's seems every day now someone is making up a new analytical tool to devalue players http://www.marinersfanproshop.com/authentic-edgar-martinez-jersey , especially free agents. As fans, why should 'value' for your team even be a consideration? It's not your money, it's money that players have worked their whole lives to get to that level and be deserving of. Bottom line, fans should want the best players and product on the field for their team. And as players we need to stand strong for what we believe we are worth and continue to fight for the rights we have fought for time and time again."Bryant and Harper are both represented by famed agent Scott Boras, and the Cubs star's comment about the lack ofcompetitiveness is likely music to Boras' ears. The agent has lamented the rise of tanking in recent years as numerous MLB clubs have sold off veteran assets for prospects in hopes of replicating the Houston Astros' successful rebuild."We have to get rid of the noncompetitive cancer," Boras toldKen Rosenthalof The Athletic last January. "We can't go to our fanbases and sell the promise of losing to win later. That is destructive to our sport because it has removed one-third of the competition."He once again referred to losing games to improve draft position as a "cancer" during amedia scrumin November. The Astros feature one of MLB's most talented rosters but are only projected to have a $128.5 million payroll in 2019, a mere $10.6 million above the league average, perSpotrac.Other teams have witnessed Houston's success by building through the draft. In many cases Felix Hernandez Jersey , they have accepted the short-term losses in exchange for chances to win big in the future without having to compete financially with the game's big spenders, led by the Boston Red Sox at $225 million. In turn, a limited number of clubs can seriously compete for the likes of Harper and Machado, who are expected to receive lucrative long-term contracts as free agents. The ultimate litmus test could come after the 2020 season when Los Angeles Angels outfielder Mike Trout, MLB's gold standard for the past seven years, could hit the open market. If Trout doesn't create a massive bidding war amid interest from virtually every franchise, the MLB Players Association is going to have a serious problem to rectify.Coincidentally, the currentcollective bargaining agreementends following the 2021 season. The Seattle Mariners are trying to stay on the fringe of the American League wild-card race and will get another chance to do so when they take on the Baltimore Orioles in the second game of their series on Tuesday at Safeco Field.Seattle won the first contest of this three-game series by edging the Orioles 2-1 Monday night. The Mariners got the winning run in the fifth on a Dee Gordon sacrifice fly that snapped a 1-1 tie and handed Baltimore its fourth straight loss. The Mariners came into Monday’s series six games behind the final wild-card spot Hisashi Iwakuma Jersey , so they don’t have much room to play with as the season is in its final month. But they’ve been perfect against the Orioles in 2018, coming into this game with a 5-0 record.Article continues below ...Alex Cobb (4-15, 5.11) will start for Baltimore on Tuesday against Wade LeBlanc of Seattle. LeBlanc (8-3, 3.71) has been having a strong season while helping the Mariners remain in the playoff hunt. The second half of the season has been much kinder to Cobb. He had some problems with a blister and being able to grip the ball right in his last start, where the right-hander came away with a no-decision in a 10-5 victory over the Blue Jays even though he allowed five runs in 5 2/3 innings.Cobb has a 2-4 career record with a 7.14 ERA versus Seattle.LeBlanc has changed from a relief pitcher back to a starter for the first time in several years this season, and it’s a move that’s paid off handsomely for the Mariners. He’s been effective in most of his starts and a pleasant surprise for Seattle this season. LeBlanc has a 1-2 career record with a 4.58 ERA versus Baltimore. The Mariners kept Nelson Cruz in the lineup Monday despite the former Oriole dealing with a sore ankle and struggling while running. He was pulled for a pinch-runner in the eighth.“It was pretty sore,” Mariners manager Scott Servais told the media. “You’re not going to get Nelson out (of) the lineup, but it wasn’t pretty on the bases.”Josh Rogers (1-1) may be shut down for the season after his start for Baltimore on Monday night. He went 5 1/3 innings and gave up two runs in his second major league start and appearance with the Orioles — but the club doesn’t want to push him any harder. Also Ken Griffey Jersey , for Baltimore, first baseman Chris Davis (illness) was pulled from the lineup before Monday’s game. He appears to be day-to-day.“He wants to play but he’s dragging,” Orioles manager Buck Showalter told the media. “(I’m) going to seize that opportunity to get a young player some at-bats.”The Orioles also made a few roster moves on Monday. They called up catcher Chance Sisco from Triple-A Norfolk. He’s been with Baltimore a few times this season but struggled badly at the plate, hitting only .158 in 68 games.Baltimore also brought up pitcher Jimmy Yacabonis from Norfolk. They’ve been converting him into a starter this season, and Yacabonis has pitched in seven games for the Orioles this season — making his third appearance in relief Monday with 1 2/3 scoreless innings. He’s now got an 0-2 record along with a 7.71 ERA. PHOENIX (AP) — The White Sox confirmed Tuesday what a $43 million contract seemed to signal: Eloy Jimenez will begin the season in the major leagues.Chicago’s prize prospect will make his big league debut on opening day at Kansas City on Thursday. Signed as a teenager by the crosstown Cubs out of the Dominican Republic in 2013 Brian Roberts Jersey , Jimenez is one of baseball’s most promising youngsters — and one with historic financial security.“It’s amazing. I feel really proud of the work I have done,” Jimenez said. “It’s a dream all the players want, to break with the team in spring training.”The White Sox announced Jimenez had made the team following a 7-1 exhibition win over the Arizona Diamondbacks. Jimenez was sent to minor league camp two weeks ago and was unlikely to crack the opening day roster until agreeing to a $43 million, six-year contract Friday, the largest deal ever for a rostered player with no service time. The deal, which also includes team options for 2025 and 2026, took away Chicago’s incentive to stash Jimenez at Triple-A for a few weeks and delay his potential free agency.Jimenez, 22, hit .243 with two doubles, two homers and six RBIs in 37 at-bats this spring. He started in left field the last two games and is expected to see regular time there. He hit. 337 with 22 homers and 75 RBIs in 108 games between Double-A and Triple-A last season. The White Sox acquired him in a package from the Cubs for left-hander Jose Quintana at the 2017 trade deadline.Jimenez received a $5 million signing bonus as part of the deal and will make $1 million in 2019, $1.5 million in 2020, $3.5 million in 2021, $6.5 million in 2022, $9.5 million in 2023 and $13 million in 2024. The White Sox have a $16.5 million option with a $3 million buyout in 2025 and an $18.5 million option with a $3 million buyout in 2026.If he has Tommy John surgery at any time through 2026, the White Sox have the right to retain Jimenez for 2027 at $18.5 million. If Jimenez wins an MVP award during the first six years, the 2026 or ’27 option would increase by $2.5 million, and if he finishes second or third the option price would go up by $1.5 million.Jimenez also would get a $100,000 bonus for winning an MVP, $90,000 for second, $90 Thurman Munson Jersey ,000 for third, $70,000 for fourth and $60,000 for fifth. Nova struck out three and did not walk a batter. He is scheduled to start the fourth game of the regular season at Cleveland on Monday.Jake Lamb had two hits and homered for the second straight game and Merrill Kelly gave up nine hits and six runs in 5 2/3 innings, with one strikeout and one walk for Arizona. Spring training opens in a few days.It won’t seem quite the same without T-bone.Tommy Giordano is dying.Yet, do not let your heart grow heavy. He’s going out like he lived for more than 93 years — surrounded by family and friends, accompanied by overwhelming love and stories that will endure long after he’s gone.“It’s like we’re doing the funeral, the celebration of his life, a little bit early,” said his daughter, Gail Przeclawski, when reached by phone Monday morning at the family home where Giordano was spending his final days, “and he got to enjoy every moment of it.”Giordano spent nearly all of his full life as a baseball man. He was a major league player (for 11 games with the late, great Philadelphia Athletics), a minor-league manager, a front-office executive. More than anything, he was a scout, one of those guys who combed the backwoods and backwaters searching for the game’s next big star.It was a job he loved, a job he was good at, a job he held with the Atlanta Braves right up until what would be the very last year of his life.“I’m going to do this until I die,” Giordano told me back in 2016, when I first met him at the Braves’ spring training complex, located within the confines of Disney World. “I can’t wait to get up in the morning and go to the ballpark.”T-bone (a nickname that goes back to his days growing up in New Jersey, when his father would always make him a steak as a pregame meal) had every intention of coming back for his 72nd season — staked out behind home plate http://www.yankeesfanproshop.com/authentic-giancarlo-stanton-jersey , a stopwatch in one hand, a lineup card in his lap, the games unfolding before his eyes as he gleaned those tell-tale signs of a player’s strengths and weaknesses. Can’t hit a curve ball. Great speed from first to third. Gets a poor jump on the ball. Strong throwing arm. .Then, the blood infection struck out of nowhere. Not long after climbing three flights of stairs during a family vacation to the beach, Giordano started feeling poorly. He came down with a 102-degree fever. The doctors weren’t sure what caused the infection.Giordano spent nearly three weeks in the hospital. It looked as though he would survive.Unfortunately, the infection returned. The doctors knew he wasn’t nearly strong enough to ward it off like he did the first time. He might live a bit longer, but his quality of life would be greatly diminished. No one wanted that, so he was sent home to die. That’s where this sad story takes a beautiful turn. These last few days in Orlando have given so many people a chance to show how much Giordano was loved.Everyone from Hall of Famer Reggie Jackson to longtime baseball executive John Hart to an Uber driver who hauled T-bone around to the owner of a local Italian restaurant that Giordano frequented for a good bowl of pasta have called or stopped by to say farewell. They’ve been able to reminisce. They’ve been able to swap stories told a thousand times. They’ve laughed. They’ve cried. They’ve celebrated an amazing man.Przeclawski has watched it all with pride.“I’m still learning things about my dad that I never knew,” she told me in that phone call, her voice both sad and joyful. For the record, here’s a highlight reel, gleaned from my 2016 interview with T-Bone:— Growing up in Newark, New Jersey, he played on the high school team but fibbed to his parents about his reason for staying late after school. His father, who owned a grocery store, believed young Tommy should focus on his schoolwork and devote any free time to working at the family business. “I used to hide my spikes,” Giordano told me. “Well, my dad got hold of them and put them on the butcher block. He cut them up. He cut everything up. My bat, my glove, everything.”— Giordano was called up to the majors by the Athletics toward the end of the 1953 season, giving him a chance to meet one of the game’s most towering figures Johnny Damon Jersey , Connie Mack. In his very first game with Philadelphia, the slick-fielding shortstop homered off the facade of old Shibe Park, going deep against 20-game winner Virgil Trucks of the Chicago White Sox.— Also in 1953, while playing with Class A Savannah, Giordano took the infield alongside a 19-year-old second baseman on his way up, a guy named Henry Aaron. The future home run king led the league in virtually every offensive category except one. Aaron hit 22 homers — two less than Giordano.— After his playing days, Giordano was responsible for the Baltimore Orioles drafting Cal Ripken Jr. During a stint in Cleveland, T-bone signed off on the Indians picking Manny Ramirez. His scouting mantra was “get in the house,” which gave him a chance to check out a prospect’s family and any off-the-field red flags. “I love doing that kind of work,” he said. Now, everyone is getting a chance to return the love. His daughter set out a book for visitors to sign. As I was speaking to her, someone arrived at the door. She instructed them to turn to the fourth page of the book. The first three pages were already filled up.“He’s gotten to attend his own funeral service the last four days,” Przeclawski said. “He’s had a blast.”But the end is drawing near. T-bone lost the ability to speak and swallow Sunday night. Her voice choked with emotion, Przeclawski noted that Wednesday would’ve been her mother’s birthday. She died less than a year ago. She and T-bone were married for 70 years.“I think they’re going to be celebrating her birthday in heaven,” their daughter said.Giordano will be buried just outside the family home, with a view of a lake. His daughter issued an invitation to come by and visit the next time I’m in Orlando.“We’ll tell some great stories about my dad,” she said.I can’t wait.

PITTSBURGH (AP) Cole Hamels‘ stuff was just as filthy as Chicago Cubs manager Joe Maddon remembered. The changeup. The breaking ball. All of it.If the newly acquired veteran pitcher can figure out his fastball too http://www.yankeesfanproshop.com/authentic-giancarlo-stanton-jersey , the NL Central leaders will be that much tougher to hang with heading down the stretch. Hamels shut down the Pittsburgh Pirates over five effective innings in his return to the National League on Wednesday night as the Cubs jumped out early and cruised to a 9-2 victory.Hamels (6-9), brought over in a trade with Texas last week, gave up one unearned run on three hits. The four-time All-Star struck out nine and walked two to pick up his first win for a National League team in more than three years.”You want to be able to win a game for a new team and the guys here,” Hamels said. ”They’ve been playing outstanding baseball all season and you just kind of want to get in the mix. For them to be able to put up the runs early, kind of made my job a little bit easier.”Chicago brought in the 34-year-old Hamels to give its patchwork starting rotation a boost. The left-hander struggled at times for the Rangers this season and came in having won just twice since Memorial Day. His new teammates did their best to put him at ease Johnny Damon Jersey , staking him to a four-run lead before he even took the mound. The Cubs batted around in the first against Nick Kingham (5-6) despite having the ball leave the infield just once. A pair of Pittsburgh errors helped , so did a wild pitch and a hit by pitch by Kingham, who is a leading candidate to lose his spot in the starting rotation after the Pirates traded for Chris Archer on Tuesday.”It was a rough first inning all the way around,” Pittsburgh manager Clint Hurdle said. ”There were some balls not hit hard that were well placed. We didn’t handle the ball well and (Kingham) had a guy caught and didn’t execute a play. His overall execution wasn’t what we’ve seen in the past.”Willson Contreras went 3 for 4 with a home run and three RBIs for the Cubs. Jason Heyward and Ben Zobrist had three hits apiece while Kyle Schwarber and Javy Baez each added two hits and an RBI for Chicago. Reliever Brandon Kintzler worked 1 1/3 innings of scoreless relief on his 34th birthday a day after arriving in a trade from Washington. The centerpiece of Chicago’s deadline moves, however Masahiro Tanaka Jersey , was Hamels.Though he never retired Pittsburgh in order and needed 95 pitches to record 15 outs, he had little trouble earning his 153rd career win and first for a National League team since pitching a complete-game shutout against the Cubs on July 25, 2015 while playing for the Philadelphia Phillies.Hamels hit 96 mph on the radar gun and reminded his manager of the player who helped the Phillies to a World Series title in 2008 against Maddon and the Tampa Bay Rays. A decade later, Maddon finds himself sharing a dugout with Hamels instead.”I’m really looking forward to this,” Maddon said. ”He’s very capable of getting on a nice role with high-end stuff because his stuff is still (good).”Francisco Cervelli went 3 for 3 with an RBI for Pittsburgh and Starling Marte added two hits but the Pirates never threatened after falling into the early hole to lose for just the fifth time in their last 21 games.SCARY MOMENTHome plate umpire Chris Guccione exited in the top of the third inning after a foul ball off the bat of Heyward smacked Guccione’s mask. He was steadied in the moment by Pittsburgh catcher Cervelli and attempted to stay in the game before going to be evaluated by medical staff. Guccione did not return Paul O'Neill Jersey , with Ed Hickox taking his place behind the plate.TRAINER’S ROOMCubs: 3B Kris Bryant (left shoulder inflammation) has not been cleared to return to baseball activities but manager Joe Maddon said he does not anticipate Bryant needing much time to be game-ready once he’s given the go-ahead by trainers. … RHP Yu Darvish (right triceps tendinitis) will have another bullpen session on Saturday.Pirates: OF Corey Dickerson (strained left hamstring) is on track to come off the 10-day disabled list on Saturday. … 1B Josh Bell (strained left oblique) is doing core work but remains out indefinitely. .. IF Jung Ho Kang developed a recurrence of left wrist discomfort while working out at the team’s minor-league complex in Bradenton, Florida. The team will meet with Kang’s representatives before determining the appropriate steps.UP NEXTCubs: Return to Wrigley Field for a four-game weekend series against San Diego starting Thursday. Mike Montgomery (3-4, 4.03 ERA) faces Robbie Erlin (1-3, 3.47) in the opener.Pirates: Archer will make his 178th career start – and first for someone other than Tampa Bay – on Friday when the Pirates begin a three-game set with St. Louis.— Whichever team fails to win the NL West between the Arizona Diamondbacks and Los Angeles Dodgers might have something to say about it, but this series could wind up being a preview of the NL Wild Card Game. Then again http://www.yankeesfanproshop.com/authentic-giancarlo-stanton-jersey , these two squads could also walk away as division winners themselves. The Brewers trail the Cubs by just one contest in the NL Central, while the Braves trail the Phillies by 1.5 games in the NL East.At any rate, this series is plenty important for two teams looking to cement their place as postseason contenders. If the rotation order goes unchanged, the Brewers will throw standout rookie Freddy Peralta in the opener Friday at SunTrust Park against newly acquired Kevin Gausman, who will be making his home debut.Veterans Wade Miley and Julio Teheran are lined up for Game 2 on Saturday http://www.yankeesfanproshop.com/authentic-giancarlo-stanton-jersey , with Chase Anderson and Sean Newcomb slated to square off in the finale Sunday.Just keep in mind as you watch that this may be a series we look back on in a couple of months for some context in the winner-takes-all Wild Card Game. All stats courtesy of Baseball Reference and FanGraphs unless otherwise noted.

Why didn’t the Broncos run the ball more? Numbers don’t lie. There are two from the Denver Broncos 27-23 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs on Monday night that tell the story.Thirty-seven.Twenty-two.The first is the number of pass plays called by Broncos offensive coordinator Bill Musgrave. The second is the running plays called by Musgrave. For those in Broncos Country http://www.broncoscheapauthenticstore.com/brandon-marshall-jersey-cheap , the question pinging around from the fourth quarter until this morning — why?The Chiefs defense could not stop Denver from rushing the ball if they tried. Kansas City could have had 22 guys on the field, and it still couldn’t stop the Broncos from running the ball. That is a slight exaggeration, but you get the point. As a team, Denver averaged over seven yards per attempt, led by the dynamic rookie duo of Royce Freeman and Phillip Lindsay. They became just the fourth pair of rookie running backs in NFL history to rush for at least 65 yards and a touchdown for their team in the same game. That is remarkable. But when you look at the 37 passes to 22 rushes, you would think Denver was trailing most of the game. But that’s not the case. At all. The Broncos actually had a 23-13 lead at the start of the fourth quarter. It’s even more egregious when you see Freeman had only eight carries and was on the field less than Devontae Booker (33 percent for Booker, as opposed to 27 percent for Freeman). In that situation and with how he was running, Freeman should have gotten the carries to help eat time and give the defense a breather. So, again, as Adam Malnati and I asked on the MHR Radio Podcast, why?As I noted in the winners and losers story after the game, if Musgrave calls 30 or more runs in that game Youth Connor McGovern Jersey , Denver may have won. And if you look at the second-to-last drive, it seems he abandoned the run after first down. Lindsay was stopped for a 1-yard gain and Musgrave proceeded to call two pass plays that resulted in a killer three-and-out. Over the course of the game, it seemed Musgrave abandoned the run no matter how many yards were gained on first down. Why? As noted earlier, why wasn’t Freeman in the game in that crucial drive in the fourth quarter? One is left to wonder if Musgrave was in some sort of competition with Andy Reid and the Chiefs offense. Did he want to show how much of an offensive genius he was, rather than stick with what was working for his unit? It just made no damn sense to me.It was obvious from the second offensive play that the Broncos would control the line of scrimmage and dominate with their run game. As the game wore on, that became more apparent to everyone ... save for the guy who matters most. But wait, it gets better (or worse). Musgrave moved to the coaches box for this game. The thought was that, if he could see the whole field, it would help with his play calling. No, seriously. You can’t make this shit up.Musgrave’s incompetence cost his team a win in a game it should have won, and it takes away from the performance of Freeman and Lindsay. In fact, had Musgrave done what any capable offensive coordinator would have Cheap Courtland Sutton Jersey , Freeman and Lindsay would have finished with better nights (namely Freeman, who had only eight freaking carries) and the Broncos would have won.Numbers don’t lie.The MHR Radio Podcast is now on iTunes, Google Play, Spotify, Stitcher and TuneIn. Please subscribe to the one that fits your fancy, and also rate and review what you hear. After days of pressers in which Denver Broncos Head Coach Vance Joseph promised changes would be made to stop the losing skid, today’s practice revealed at least one.Bench the starting QB? Overhaul the plays used from the playbook? Give Royce Freeman double the touches?Nope.Give Max Garcia a chance to compete with Connor McGovern for the starting right guard position - as reported by 9News’ Mike Klis. That would be the same Connor McGovern who is, according to Pro Football Focus, the third-highest ranked guard through the first five games this season (ironically, the first two play for the L.A. Rams). It’s true McGovern did not have a great game against the Jets, but it would be pretty tough to argue he was the main problem with the offense that day.Because obviously THAT’s what has been wrong with this team the last three games. On Sunday Garcia could be responsible for blocking Ndamukong Suh and Aaron Donald - two of the best interior defensive linemen in the NFL.So that’s good news.

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Ian Kinsler headed home Bob Feller Jersey , trying to get his 200-pound frame to the plate with the go-ahead run before Cody Bellinger’s throw from center field.Bellinger caught Eduardo Nunez’s drive 275 feet from home for the second out of the 10th inning, planted his right foot and heaved. It was quite a play, keeping the Boston Red Sox and Los Angeles Dodgers tied at 1 in Game 3 of the World Series.Kinsler took about 10 strides to near the plate as Dodgers catcher Austin Barnes realized the throw was up the third-base line and shuffled up past the batter’s box.Realizing a slide would not help, Kinsler veered to the infield side of the baseline and tried to go around the catcher, like a car trying to switch lanes to avoid a bottleneck. About 6 feet from the plate, Barnes caught the ball and tagged Kinsler in the midsection as the Boston runner tumbled past the plate without touching it.Bellinger had never before started a double play from the outfield in his big league career. The only other outfielder to throw out a runner at the plate in extra innings of a World Series game was Oakland’s Joe Rudi Satchel Paige Jersey , according to STATS. Rudi cut down the New York Mets’ Bud Harrelson in Game 2 in 1973.The thrilling throw made up for Bellinger’s baserunning gaffe the previous inning. The NLCS MVP led off the ninth with a single against David Price. But Bellinger broke from first base too early when trying to steal second with one out and was caught by the left-hander and tagged out in a rundown.Price walked Yasmani Grandal and Red Sox closer Craig Kimbrel came in and walked Chris Taylor only for Brian Dozier to foul out. ATLANTA — Julio Teheran has made five consecutive starts on Opening Day for the Atlanta Braves and has two All-Star Games on his resume, but where the right-hander might fall in a postseason rotation remains in doubt. At least Teheran is a solid starting candidate now after appearing to be on the outside looking in during the first four months of what was shaping up as a very disappointing season. The victim of too many walks and home runs much of the season, the 27-year-old from Colombia is on the upswing as he faces the Washington Nationals on Saturday in the middle game of a weekend series at SunTrust Park.Article continues below ...Teheran (9-7, 3.95 ERA) has quality starts in five of his past six outings and has posted a 2.33 ERA with a 34-to-12 strikeout-to-walk ratio and just two homers allowed in that span. The Braves (83-64) kept their lead over the Philadelphia Phillies at 7 1/2 games while reducing their magic number to nine with a 10-5 victory over the Nationals on Friday night. The victory was the sixth straight for the Braves and left the Nationals (74-74) facing near elimination at 9 1/2 games back. Atlanta’s magic number against Washington is down to six.Two-time defending National League Cy Young Award winner Max Scherzer couldn’t hold down the Braves in the series opener and now the Nationals turn to right-hander Jeremy Hellickson (5-3, 3.57 ERA), who just came off the disabled list. Teheran hasn’t shown the velocity he once had Joe Carter Jersey , but his command and off-speed pitches have been much better of late. “My last four starts I’ve been feeling really good,” Teheran said. “I’ve been feeling that I have all of my pitches, and I think that’s been the difference.”Teheran was at his worst in a home start against the Nationals in early April, giving up three homers and five runs in 2 1/3 shaky innings that included six hits and three walks.Ryan Zimmerman and Bryce Harper took him deep in that game, as did former Nationals pitcher A.J. Cole, although Teheran escaped with a no-decision. Homers made for a rough debut season at SunTrust Park for Teheran last season. This season Francisco Lindor Jersey , walks at home and away have been the bigger issue.Opponents are batting just .198 against Teheran, but he has surrendered 73 walks in 159 1/3 innings.“I know every time that I walk (a batter), they score a run,” he said. “I try to put that to the side and try to make pitches.”Despite his rough outing against the Nationals, Teheran is 4-2 with a 3.81 ERA and 11 homers allowed in 15 home starts compared to 5-5 with a 4.13 ERA and 13 homers in 13 road starts.Teheran took a loss at Washington in mid-April but worked six solid innings. He is 6-5 with a 4.12 ERA in 20 career starts against the Nationals.Harper has feasted on Teheran, batting .450 (18-for-40) with eight home runs.Hellickson Corey Kluber Jersey , sidelined by a right wrist sprain, made his last appearance for Washington on Aug. 15 and has been limited to 18 starts this season because of two stints on the disabled list.Neither injury was caused making a pitch. He had to leave a start against the Braves on June 3 after two batters when he strained his right hamstring covering first base, then suffered the sprained wrist when he tumbled covering home plate.Hellickson is 2-0 with a 3.18 ERA in six career starts against the Braves.

Denver Broncos General Manager John Elway joined Orange and Blue 760’s Dave Logan to talk about the teams disappointing loss to the New York Jets. The Broncos Hall Of Fame General Manager said he was disappointed by the team and the coaching staff and thought they would do better against the Jets. The Broncos were coming off a disappointing loss to their divisional rival Kansas City Chiefs on Monday Night Football. They played well enough to keep the still undefeated Chiefs trailing into the 4th quarter but eventually Patrick Mahomes led a thrilling comeback. This performance made many feel that the Broncos would be able to handle the Jets and rookie quarterback Sam Darnold. Well http://www.thebroncosfootballauthentic.com/ronald-leary-jersey-authentic , we all know how that went. Elway also went out of his way to voice his displeasure with the Broncos coaching staff. He told Logan that like players, coaches have their bad days as well.As we know, Elway came close to firing Vance Joseph last season but decided to keep him, There were multiple changes made to the Broncos coaching staff however, but the Broncos appear to be heading down the same road that they took in 2017. If this continues, the outlook is grim for Head Coach Vance Joseph and Defensive Coordinator Joe Woods who Elway called out in this interview. Unless the Broncos pull an upset this weekend, they will be 2-4 heading into a short week before taking on the Arizona Cardinals on Thursday Night Football. That game will be on the road and we all know how the Broncos struggle there. If the Broncos lose these next two games http://www.thebroncosfootballauthentic.com/todd-davis-jersey-authentic , Vance Joseph’s seat will be hot or literally on fire.FanPulse: Broncos Country is cautiously optimistic heading into Week 3 Welcome back to another week of our FanPulse survey, where Broncos fans like you and me take a short weekly survey on the direction of the Denver Broncos. Broncos’ preseason loss to Vikings highlights A LOT to focus on (fix) moving forward Case Keenum said Saturday that the Broncos’ loss to his former team definitely left him “wanting” - and he wasn’t the only one.For Broncos fans experiencing not just a glimmer but rather an explosion of hope the past few weeks that perhaps we really had escaped the offensive abyss this team has wallowed in since 2016 Youth Jared Veldheer Jersey , Saturday’s 42-28 loss to the Vikings was downright unacceptable. Not because of the final score. It’s preseason. Who cares? It was that the 14-0 deficit halfway through the first quarter - which featured the Broncos’ No. 1 offense and defense - felt all too familiar. In one 15-minute quarter of football, all the excitement building over the past two weeks evaporated into the thin Rocky Mountain air.And then when the second-string quarterback came in to show how much he has improved after two years of watching, studying, playing NFL football, the story was once again a sequel, not a blockbuster. But as all good football fans - or at least true students of the game - should know, no championships are won in the preseason. Those games are for finding problems and fixing them.So that’s the long view that Keenum is taking.“Right now - training camp and preseason - it’s about building a foundation. It’s about finding what you’re good at and maybe finding what you’re not good at and working on that,” Keenum noted. “We obviously have some things to work on. I think it’s a good test for us, going against a really good team that we know is a really good team. We know we’ve got to work, we’ve got to get better hands down.”He’s right about that. Having completed a measly 1-of-4 passes for five yards, Keenum should be a lock for making some swift improvements next weekend.“It’s disappointing obviously. You want guys to go out there and at least have a decent drive, but we didn’t do that,” head coach Vance Joseph said after the loss. “Offensively, we had a nice first-down play and second play we jumped offsides—self-inflicted wounds. We didn’t start fast and they did.”It’s going to be popular to pile on Joseph for this aggravating loss - and for some great reasons. Reportedly, the coaching staff didn’t “game plan” for the Vikings but instead planned on practicing “concepts” for the offense. Whether that was a good idea is debatable, but it’s a good reminder not to be overly concerned about the offense’s performance Saturday - at least not yet (and as Scotty Payne pointed out, “six plays is not a big sample size.”)As for the lackluster performance of the defense, which gave up 41 rushing yards to Minnesota running back Latavius Murray on three plays in the Vikings’ first drive White Von Miller Jersey , Joseph noted that the defense was missing veteran starters Von Miller and Todd Davis. He added that the missed gap assignments by the linemen didn’t help. It was definitely a night of growing pains for rookie and first-round pick Bradley Chubb, but the entire line struggled.“The first run, it was basically a missed tackle in the hole, and the second run, we didn’t fit it up right,” Joseph said. “That was a strength of ours last year, so we can’t go backwards with that, and we won’t. Obviously, it happened tonight, but it’s preseason and we’ll fix it.”If the coach wants to make it to the beginning of the season, he better hope so.But the game wasn’t all bad, of course. And some of it was quite good - even fun - if you hung around until midway through the third quarter.Eventually the game became a game and the Mile High crowd was all for it. It was a game Kelly really wanted to win, but mostly the second-year quarterback was just happy to be playing in a football game again.“Like I said, there’s a lot of things that we can get better at, but there were also a lot of good things that came from this game, too,” said Kelly, who was drafted as “Mr. Irrelevant. It’s a learning experience http://www.authenticsdenverbroncos.com/cheap-jake-butt-jersey , my first game in 646 days and I’m excited to have the opportunity to be on a great team.”Freeman, who definitely earned first-team reps this week, was thrilled to get a score in his first NFL game.“It was a blessing definitely stepping out there at Mile High just to see all the fans in support and just to be out there for the first game was a moment you have been thinking about for forever,” Freeman said, adding thathis touchdown was just a result of camp repetition. “I just went through my reads. The line did a great job of walling off and I got to the second level so I was just trying to make something happen....We’ve run that play numerous times in camp. I just try to go through my reads throughout the play and it was there for me.”Lindsay, an undrafted free agent from Colorado and a local favorite, said his touchdown was also due to just doing what he’s been doing the last two weeks in camp.“It’s something that we worked on during camp and we’re continuing to work on. That’s what I’m supposed to do,” Lindsay said. “My job is to get open. Chad was able to find me, and we were able to make a play. Chad had a lot of momentum and sparked us. I’m proud of him. He’s a good teammate and a good dude.”That spark from Kelly was no joke, and the guys on the sideline felt it.“The energy [in the second half] was a lot better than the energy in the first half. We got our offense going, we got a couple first downs,” Lindsay added. “Tim Patrick sparked us too when Chad was able to hit him a couple of times. Everything matters and that’s what I’m finding out right now.”For Broncos fans, hopefully Lindsay, Kelly, Patrick and Freeman can keep that spark going while the starters find a better rhythm next weekend.“It’s a good feeling and I just want to continue to make plays,” Lindsay said. “That’s what they brought me in to do - to be a big playmaker. I want to be able to be a spark plug.”Broncos vs Jets: 3 winners, 8 losers in a shameful Denver loss You know the season is lost when you lose to the hapless New York Jets. That is what happened to the Denver Broncos on Sunday in a 34-16 defeat, and if the Jets are bad Youth Todd Davis Jersey , what does that make Denver? The Broncos (2-3) might be worse than they were a season ago, and they were bad in 2017. Winners The Jets Unlike the Broncos, New York moved up in the NFL Draft and got its franchise quarterback in Sam Darnold. It’s fitting the Jets just beat Denver. The future looks bright for Gang Green. The same cannot be said about Broncos Country.Phillip Lindsay The Broncos rookie running back was pretty much the only player who shined on offense. He is fun to watch and will play a big role for this franchise in the foreseeable future.Adam Gotsis Hey, you have to try and find the positives at this point, and at least Denver’s defense created a turnover. Not only that, the offense turned that into a touchdown. At least the start was good. Too bad it derailed shortly after that.Losers Vance Joseph The time has come to fire him and move on. It’s easy to lose track of the number of embarrassing games he’s overseen as head coach, but Sunday against the Jets is the most recent. No more. Joe WoodsNo more. As is the case for Joseph, the time has come to move on. At least Wade Phillips will be in the building next Sunday to completely destroy the franchise that did him wrong.Garett Bolles Or is it Garett Holds? Either way, he leads the NFL in holding penalties and the issues that plagued him in his rookie season haven’t been fixed. The “bust” talk is only going to grow louder and louder. Denver’s offensive line Despite the success this unit has had in run blocking, it is putrid in pass protection. This unit has been bad over the Broncos’ three-game losing streak and now the Los Angeles Rams are up next. Case Keenum Keenum is a liability at this point, and it’s time to consider making the switch to Chad Kelly. Keenum has proven his success with the Minnesota Vikings last season was a fluke. Bradley Roby Holy shit, was he torched on Sunday. What else is there to say? He wasn’t alone, since the Frequent Flyer Zone was open for business against the Jets. Broncos run defenseHoly shit, was this unit torched on Sunday. What else is there to say? John Elway It’s been said that Denver’s legend has no Plan B. Never has that been more true since Peyton Manning retired. It’s clear at this point that Elway has no clue what he’s doing. And his franchise just shamed itself by being annihilated by a bad team that has a franchise quarterback. Whoops.
