Mike Mayock won’t exactly get to ease into Antworten

ALAMEDA http://www.newyorkjetsteamonline.com/jachai-polite-jersey , Calif. (AP) — his new role as Oakland Raiders general manager after spending years as a draft analyst.Mayock knows he will be highly scrutinized with three first-round picks thanks to coach Jon Gruden’s much-criticized trades that sent franchise building blocks Khalil Mack and Amari Cooper out of town as part of a massive rebuilding project in Oakland. The first big step in that process begins with the draft, where the Raiders hold the fourth, 24th and 27th picks in the first round.“As Jon keeps telling me, ‘Don’t mess it up, dude. I took a lot of slings to get you three first-round picks,'” Mayock said. “We laugh about it all the time but … I don’t feel any pressure about it. I love it and embrace it because it’s going to give us an opportunity to continue to try to turn the corner here and become a good football team, and I think what it really gives us is flexibility and that’s what I love about it.”Finding a replacement for Mack will be paramount in the draft after the Raiders had an NFL-low 13 sacks last season following the deal that sent the 2016 AP Defensive Player of the Year to Chicago for a package that included two first-round picks. This draft is considered to be deep with pass rushers, including Nick Bosa, Josh Allen, Montez Sweat and Brian Burns on the outside, and Quinnen Williams and Ed Oliver on the inside. Now it’s about making the right choices.“On paper it looks great,” Gruden said. “When you start studying the tape Chuma Edoga Jersey , you have to decide for yourself. Some of these guys, like I just said, are a bit mysterious, because they’re young, they’re underclassmen, they didn’t play a high percentage of snaps.”Here are some other things to watch:SWEET SPOTWhile the Raiders are in prime position with four of the top 35 picks in the draft, they won’t pick again until No. 106, having traded away their third-rounder for Antonio Brown. Mayock called the picks from about 20 to 60 the sweet spot in the draft where some of the safest picks happen and he would like to get more picks in that range if possible.“I’d love to get a couple more picks in there. I just think we have a lot of holes that need to be filled,” he said. “I think that’s a really good place to go fishing.”QUARTERBACK QUESTMayock and Gruden have publicly proclaimed Derek Carr their franchise quarterback throughout the offseason. That hasn’t stopped them from meeting with some of the top QBs in the draft, including Kyler Murray and Dwayne Haskins. In 12 drafts as a head coach, Gruden’s teams have selected a QB in the first four rounds just twice, with the Raiders taking Marques Tuiasosopo in the second round in 2001 and Tampa Bay taking Chris Simms in the third round in 2003.“If we found somebody we like better or thought had bigger upside http://www.newyorkjetsteamonline.com/trevon-wesco-jersey , then you got to do the right thing for the organization,” Mayock said.OPPOSITES ATTRACTMayock and Gruden appear to be meshing much better than Gruden did last year with Reggie McKenzie, who was fired in December. That’s true even though they don’t always see eye to eye on the draft, with Gruden more apt to draft for need such as the pick of tackle Kolton Miller in the first round last year when safety Derwin James was still on the board, and more willing to take a risk on a player with character questions.“In our building, I think Jon will roll the dice a little more, and I think I’m little more conservative,” Mayock said. “I think that’s a good balance.”TRIPLE PLAYThe Raiders could be just the fifth team this century to make three first-round picks in the same draft. Cleveland was the most recent team to do it, taking Myles Garrett, Jabril Peppers and David Njoku in 2017. Minnesota had three in 2013 (Sharrif Floyd, Xavier Rhodes, Cordarrelle Patterson) Alexander Mattison Jersey , the Rams did it in 2001 (Damione Lewis, Adam Archuleta, Ryan Pickett), and the Jets had four first-rounders in 2000 (Shaun Ellis, John Abraham, Chad Pennington and Anthony Becht).RUN TO DAYLIGHTOakland signed Isaiah Crowell to be in the mix at running back with smaller backs Jalen Richard and DeAndre Washington, as well as Chris Warren III, who sat out his rookie year with an injury. The Raiders could target a back in the draft, either a featured back to carry a heavy load in the first round or a rotational one later in the draft. On a night the slumping Giants broke out of their offensive funk and ended a four-game losing streak, second baseman Joe Panik was forced out with a groin strain and is likely headed to the disabled list.

Such is life for manager Bruce Bochy and his beleaguered ballclub this season.

Andrew McCutchen hit an RBI single to drive in Hunter Pence from second base in the seventh inning and the Giants beat the St. Louis Cardinals 3-2 on Friday night.

But San Francisco’s win was tempered by the loss of Panik, who was injured while running from first to third on Gorkys Hernandez’s double in the fourth.

”Bad break there,” Bochy said. ”We are going to get an MRI tomorrow http://www.minnesotavikingsteamonline.com/dru-samia-jersey , but it looks like he’s headed to the DL. It’s hard to say how long. He did a pretty good job on it.”

Panik, a Gold Glove winner in 2016, missed 31 games this season with a sprained left thumb. His latest injury had Bochy and his staff scrambling to make roster moves after the game. Rookie Alen Hanson is the likely replacement until Panik returns.

”It’s a DL situation, so we’ll huddle up here and talk about what move we’re going to make,” Bochy said.

Pence reached on a pinch-hit single off John Brebbia (1-2) leading off the seventh. After Hanson sacrificed Pence to second and Posey was intentionally walked, McCutchen pushed a 2-2 pitch into left field to drive in the go-ahead run.

Pablo Sandoval homered, Buster Posey singled twice and Brandon Crawford scored on a wild pitch to help the Giants’ slumping offense break out.

Reyes Moronta (5-1) retired one batter to earn the win. Will Smith pitched the ninth for his third save.

Kolton Wong had two hits and two RBIs for the Cardinals.

St. Louis was limited to five hits after setting a season-high with 18 on Friday.

”There’s going to be some nights when they’re going to shut you down,” manager Mike Matheny said. ”You have to figure out how to manufacture. You’re not going to be able to score 11 every night.”

It was a back-and-forth game most of the night. After Wong’s RBI double in the second gave the Cardinals an early lead, the Giants tied it in the bottom of the inning without a hit. Crawford and Sandoval walked. Crawford took third on a flyout and scored on a wild pitch.

DAD’S HERE

Giants starter Dereck Rodriguez pitched effectively into the sixth inning, but wasn’t even the most popular member of his family at the ballpark. His father, Hall of Famer Ivan Rodriguez, sat near San Francisco’s dugout and received a huge ovation from the crowd as highlights of the former catcher’s career played on the giant scoreboard in center field.

”I didn’t even notice until they told me Daniel Jones Jersey ,” the younger Rodriguez said of the videos of his father.

DEJONG RETURNS

Cardinals shortstop Paul DeJong was activated from the disabled list after missing 45 games with a fracture in his left hand. DeJong had not missed a game this season before getting hurt.

”I was kind of anxious before the game just to get out there and start playing because I’ve been waiting for this moment for a while,” said DeJong, who went 1 for 3 with two runs scored.

TRAINER’S ROOM

Cardinals: To make room for DeJong, LHP Austin Gomber was optioned to Triple-A Memphis.

Giants: 3B Evan Longoria could begin swinging off a tee and taking grounders by the end of the weekend, less than three weeks after undergoing surgery to repair a broken bone in his left hand. Longoria is on pace to rejoin the team in the first week of August.

UP NEXT

Cardinals RHP Carlos Martinez (5-4, 3.20 ERA) goes for his third consecutive win Saturday. Martinez pitched two-hit ball over nine innings, but left with a no-decision the last time he faced the Giants on May 20, 2017. RHP Jeff Samardzija (1-4, 6.56) will come off the disabled list to pitch for San Francisco in his first start since May 29.
