Showed great explosion as a pass rusher as a redshirt freshman in 2015 before the previous strength staff had him bulk up and he lost his explosion. Hampered by an ankle injury and playing for three defensive line coaches and three DCs“Can he make the roster.... ? “That’s a damned good question. Nebraska football was completely lost under coach Mike Riley, and those guys didn’t get a lot of development, as was pointed out. “If he has time to stick around, maybe on a practice squad, perhaps. There was a lot of hope for Freedom (not even a pun intended) when he was young, and then everything turned to crap. The defense went straight to hell under [former defensive coordinator] Bob Diaco.”Let’s take a closer look at Akinmoladun as we continue profiling the 90 players the Giants will bring to training camp later this summer. The basicsHeight: 6-foot-4Weight: 295Position: DLExperience: 0How he got hereAkinmoladun was a four-year starter at Nebraska. His best season was his freshman year when he compiled 4.5 sacks and 7.0 tackles for loss. Over the next three seasons, he had just 6.5 sacks and 9.0 tackles for loss combined. Here is a little bit more about how his Cornhusker career went:With the Giants in attendance New York Giants Hoodie , Akinmoladun tested well at the Nebraska Pro Day. The Giants brought him to the rookie mini-camp as a tryout player, liked what they saw and added him to the roster.2019 outlook Akinmoladun faces a steep climb to make the roster.B.J. Hill, Dalvin Tomlinson, first-round pick Dexter Lawrence, seventh-round pick Chris Slayton, last year’s fifth-round pick R.J. McIntosh and free-agent signee Olsen Pierre would all appear to be ahead of Akinmoladun. The Giants also re-signed veteran nose tackle John Jenkins.Perhaps what the Giants see is a player with intriguing who could benefit from a year on an NFL practice squad with some quality coaching. "It’s where the value of the board is," says the GM"WhiteFanposts Fanshots Sections New York Giants NewsGiants Training Camp 2016Giants vs. Eagles 2015, Week 17New York Giants News2019 NFL Draft2019 Giants’ draft: How will Dave Gettleman handle Day 3?New,189comments“It’s where the value of the board is,” says the GMEDTShareTweetShareShare2019 Giants’ draft: How will Dave Gettleman handle Day 3?The New York Giants waited more than four hours on Friday to make one selection on Day 2 of the 2019 NFL Draft, taking Old Dominion EDGE Oshane Ximines with the 95th overall pick. [Fans like the pick | Why the Giants chose Ximines]Saturday, Day 3 of the draft http://www.giantsfanshop.com/Oshane-Ximines-Jersey , will be much different. Waiting won’t be a problem. The Giants have six picks (Nos. 108, 143, 171, 180, 232 and 245) over the draft’s final four rounds. Thus, they’re schedule to add a half-dozen players in roughly that same four-hour span. How will GM Dave Gettleman handle the final day of the draft?Gettleman, as GM of the Carolina Panthers, showed a proclivity for moving up in the draft to select targeted players. He showed a similar willingness on Thursday night, giving up three of the 12 picks he started the draft with to move up to No. 30 and select cornerback Deandre Baker.Rest assured, Gettleman will move around the board Saturday if the need arises. He sounded Friday night, though, like he really wanted to hold on to the Giants first three picks (Round 4 -- 108 Deandre Baker Jersey , Round 5 — 143, Round 5 — 171.) The GM said the Giants decided to “hold our water” in Round 3 “because of what our board looks like.”“The draft is really, it is a full draft. There are guys in the fourth and fifth rounds that we really like, and we still have third-round guys available,” Gettleman said. “Right now, as the mood moves us, I don’t know that we’re going to move around right now — I’d like to sit and take the three picks — I don’t want to move the fours and the fives, as of right now, but who knows.”Positions to targetThe Giants have added a quarterback of the future in Daniel Jones and three defensive players to a unit that needed a talent infusion with their first four picks.Pure need would dictate that the Giants find an offensive tackle, perhaps a wide receiver and continue to add defensive talent over the draft’s final day.The Big Blue View Big Board indicates that by our grades there are two players remaining with first-round grades — wide receiver Hakeem Butler and safety Chauncey Gardner-Johnson. A third player, Texas defensive lineman Charles Omenihu, has a Round 1-2 grade.During a pre-draft podcast http://www.giantsfanshop.com/Dexter-Lawrence-Jersey , Matt Waldman of The Rookie Scouting Portfolio told us that the 6-foot-5 3/8, 227-pound Butler would be “an amazing pick” for the Giants — as early as the 17th overall selection.Gettleman was asked specifically about addressing the right tackle situation, where our board has David Edwards of Wisconsin and Oli Udoh of Elon as the top remaining values.“What I’ll say is, it’s where the value of the board is. When we were picking at 17, after Dexter [Lawrence], the defensive tackle group was falling down the floor,” Gettleman said. “To answer your question, there’s still tackles on the board we like.”Draft coverage for rounds 4-7 begin at noon. You can watch on ABC, ESPN, NFL Network and stream Day 3 on NFL.com/watch. You can also stream the event on fuboTV.
