Indianapolis-based Rob Mullett is a British 3,000 metre steeplechaser at his first Olympic Games. He has been staying at the Team GB training camp in Belo Horizonte before he competes in his heat in Rio on Monday. He gives the inside track on life as an athlete in Brazil, on the day the track and field action begins:If preparations are anything to go by, there could be quite a few more great medal days for Team GB to come.At the training camp, at least, things have been pretty much ideal. Everything has been thought of and the mood has been sociable and relaxed. In fact, it has felt a lot like a regular European set up for me, so I hope it is not too much of a shock when I get to Rio.I know what youre thinking: they all say that -- I dont believe him. Well, you should, because if things were rubbish I would have no problem at all saying so. It just really has been good up here. I havent even heard of anyone picking up an injury and with the number of people who have been through, the odds were high that someone would have a problem.Weve got nice, quiet accommodation, the track we train on is pretty new and only about a mile away from our hotel. Us runners have had a lake nearby to run round, too, a handy 11.5-mile circuit. The only thing anyone has had a gripe about is the desserts, which have been fruit, fruit or, er, fruit. Weve had fairly standard fare for meals - pasta and sauce, rice, the usual - and that has provided decent fuel for training, but there have been some serious cheesecake cravings for some of the people who have stayed here.People might be a bit surprised but athletes can have a sweet tooth too, and if they dont overdo it, its ok once in a while.Cheesecake isnt my thing particularly but I have been encouraged by rumours of free McDonalds in the athletes village. A lot of us like an occasional splurge there (when people sometimes do go a bit over the top!), so we better not have been given false hope. The mood has been upbeat all week and it is a good set-up in a nice location. The locals are friendly, saying hi or hitting their car horns when they see us out running in Team GB kit. There have been a few football matches up here, too, which has made it a proper Games venue. Its not too sanitised either and getting out to train has ensured that has been the case for me, giving me a real feeling of being in Brazil. The capybaras around the lake have also helped with that; they are funny-looking large rodents, a bit like giant guinea pigs, and there are loads of them there. Are they dangerous? I dont think so. They dont seem bothered by people, anyway, and the fishermen around the lake are equally unfussed by them.Inside the camp, weve been keeping an eye on events at the Games from our lounge, which has all the BBC channels available on several screens and a load of sofas. The event that seemed to capture a lot of peoples attention was the womens road race last weekend, which was pretty dramatic. Lizzie Armitstead finished out of the medals and there was a nasty crash -- it kept a big group of us glued to the screens. At other down times, if were not just relaxing in our rooms, there are two swimming pools, pool tables and computer games for people to play. Lots to occupy yourself away from training. The British Olympic Association also put on a separate opening ceremony celebration for the athletes at a big sports club in the city centre. They got everyone together in the same clothes that the guys wore in Rio and we had a nice evening watching events on a projector screen. The BOA has been trying to emphasize one team and I can say 100 percent theyve done a great job of integrating the different sports as much as possible. A few of the bigger names havent been in: Mo Farah, Jess Ennis-Hill and Greg Rutherford. I suppose they might have missed out a little bit, but they have been to Olympics before and know what works best for them. All I have had to worry about really is competing, and Im a pretty relaxed about that at the moment. My family and girlfriend get into Brazil on Saturday, when I will have arrived in the athletes village, and Im really looking forward seeing them. Its all pretty exciting.I will find out who I am up against over the weekend and my coach will be here to help me plan my race. Ive got my sights firmly set on the final and cant wait to get going. http://www.giantsrookiestore.com/Giants-Calvin-Munson-Jersey/ . LeBron James and Chris Bosh didnt need any more. The nimble-footed quarterback got his wish, dashing through the snow and a weary defence all the way into the NCAA record book. GAINESVILLE, Fla. -- Florida coach Jim McElwain insists hes simply playing to the strengths of his team. Its the polite way of saying his defense is significantly better than his offense.Nonetheless, its working for the No. 10 Gators.Floridas defense is ranked second in the country and coming off a fourth game in which it held an opponent under 200 total yards . With the exception of one half -- the second half at Tennessee in September -- the Gators have been downright dominant on that side of the ball.Youve got to adjust as coaches to give your team -- whatever team that is that given year -- the best opportunity to win, McElwain said. And thats kind of what were doing. It essentially means Florida (6-1, 4-1 Southeastern Conference) can win without having to do too much offensively. Its probably not ideal for a fan base that was spoiled by Steve Spurrier and Tim Tebow. But the Gators are seemingly best suited to protect the ball, be patient, play a field-position game and take calculated risks at opportune times. The plan could be tested Saturday at Arkansas (5-3, 1-3), which is coming off a bye week that followed a 53-point loss at Auburn. Its an important game for the Gators, who sit atop the Eastern Division and need to win two of their remaining three in SEC play to secure a spot in the leagues championship game for the second straight season.A road victory surely would help Florida garner a little more respect, too. Sure, the Gators are ranked in the top 10 for the first time in nearly a year. But consistent offensive struggles have them widely regarded as one of the countrys more overrated teams.Losing to the Volunteers didnt help, especially after cornerbacks Jalen Tabor and Quincy Wilson provided bulletin-board material before the game.I personally believe you earn your respect with how you play, quarterback Luke Del Rio said. We learned the hard way you cant talk yourself up to be a great team. So weve kind of shuut up and let our play do the talking.ddddddddddddThe defense has done that and more lately, helping Florida win three in a row.Tabor and Wilson look like the best cornerback tandem in the country. Linebacker Jarrad Davis, the teams top tackler and vocal leader, took his game to another level against Georgia while playing through an ankle injury. And now that the Gators are healthy along the defensive line, they have the talent and depth to match up with just about anybody.Caleb Brantley has become hard to handle inside. CeCe Jefferson has grown more comfortable at end. And Jabari Zuniga, who has five sacks, has been the surprise of the defensive front.Together, they forced Georgia into seven three-and-outs in 13 possessions. Two other drives ended with failed fourth-down attempts. It definitely shows us who we are, Davis said. It gives us a reassurance as to our identity. I mean we definitely know were a good team, you know. ... Were the Florida Gators. We need to prepare like the Florida Gators. That name holds a lot of weight, a lot of respect in this country.Maybe so. But McElwain was quick to defend his guys after managing just 231 yards against the Bulldogs. It was quite possibly an effort to help his players believe in themselves despite the offensive woes. For now, it seems to be working.Look at the last couple national champions, Del Rio said. Even in the NFL, look whos winning Super Bowls. They have great defenses. Its hard to win when you cant stop people. Everybody can score. The Big 12 probably leads the nation in scoring every year, but theyre usually not in the national conversation because defense is still of the utmost importance. From high school, college, NFL, youve got to be able to stop them. Were lucky that we can do that.---More AP college football: www.collegefootball.ap.org Wholesale Hoodies NFL Shirts Outlet Jerseys NFL Wholesale Cheap NFL Jerseys Free Shipping Wholesale Jerseys Cheap Cheap NFL Jerseys China Wholesale Jerseys Wholesale NFL Jerseys Cheap NFL Jerseys China Cheap NFL Jerseys ' ' '
