CLEVELAND - The Detroit Tigers have placed reliever Darin Downs on the 15-day disabled list with a shoulder injury. The team said Sunday that the left-hander has tendinitis in his rotator cuff. Downs gave up a two-run homer to Ryan Raburn in the ninth inning of Saturdays 9-4 win over the second-place Indians. The 28-year-old has appeared in 26 games, going 0-2 with a 5.18 ERA. In his last six outings, Downs has a 9.00 ERA. The Tigers also recalled right-hander Evan Reed from Triple-A Toledo. He was expected to arrive in time for Sundays game. This is Reeds second stint with Detroit this season. He appeared in six games before being sent back to the minors. I love watching it on TV and I love going to games. I actually think the lower scoring and lack of fighting and big open-ice hits has hurt the at-the-game experience more than the TV experience. Today, you can attend a game that is 2-1 or 3-2 with no fights, no open-ice hits and few get-out-of-your-seat moments.Many games are saved or extremely augmented by the hair-on-fire 3-on-3 experience. Those overtimes are all offense, instinct and no overcoaching to put a drag on the excitement.
