FRISCO, Texas - The NFL has informed the Dallas Cowboys that defensive end Randy Gregory will not be allowed to practice Wednesday, erasing the optimism both had of the players possible return to work before his suspension ended, according to sources.Gregorys suspension runs through Dec. 18, the date of the Cowboys Week 15 game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, but the Cowboys hoped Gregory would receive a two-week roster exemption to practice. He is currently eligible to return to the active roster on Dec. 19.Gregory was initially suspended the first four games of the season for violating the NFLs substance-abuse policy in the offseason. An additional 10-game penalty was announced on Sept. 29 for another violation. While there have been reports of Gregory committing another violation of the policy during the current suspension, sources say the Cowboys have not received any update from the NFL of a longer potential penalty. When asked last week about Gregorys status, coach Jason Garrett said he had no information. At different times during the season owner and general manager Jerry Jones has remained supportive of Gregory, but has not commented further. At the start of training camp the Cowboys placed Gregory on the reserve/did not report list when he checked himself into an out-of-state rehab facility. He has been around the team since the second week of the season, working out with the strength and conditioning coaches and taking part in meetings. The Cowboys took a chance on Gregory last year when they picked him in the second round, knowing of his off-field issues while at Nebraska. He failed a drug test at the scouting combine that landed him in the substance-abuse program. He had a productive training camp as a rookie and preseason but suffered a high ankle sprain in the season opener that forced him to miss the next four games. He did not record a sack in 12 games and was credited with 11 tackles, one tackle for loss and 16 quarterback pressures. With just 23 sacks as a team in the first 12 games this season, the Cowboys are in need of pass-rushing help. Considering how much time Gregory missed since last season it might be misguided to expect him to be a major contributor but the Cowboys will take any help they can get. http://www.jetsrookiestore.com/Jets-Keyshawn-Johnson-Jersey/ . The Bobcats have reached an agreement in principle with the Hall of Famer to become their new associate head coach, said a person familiar with the situation. The person spoke to The Associated Press Tuesday on condition of anonymity because the hire has not yet been made official. The 50-year-old Ewing and Jordan were teammates on the 1992 USA Olympic "Dream Team" that won gold at the Barcelona Games. Ewing was out of coaching last year after the Magic decided to let go of Stan Van Gundy and overhaul their roster while embarking on a major rebuilding project following the 2011-12 season. Ewing spent part of last season working as an NBA broadcaster. Before that Ewing worked for five years as an assistant coach with the Magic alongside Steve Clifford, who was hired as the Bobcats head coach last month. Ewing has nine years of experience as an NBA assistant coach. Hes also worked as an assistant coach for the Washington Wizards and Houston Rockets. Ewing interviewed for the Bobcats heead coaching position in 2012, but Jordan hired Mike Dunlap instead.dddddddddddd Ewing also interviewed for the Detroit Pistons head coaching position in 2011. However, that job was given to Lawrence Frank. Ewing has said in the past he wants a chance to become a head coach and being the second in charge with the Bobcats could afford him that opportunity down the road. He will be the first assistant coach hired by Clifford, who looks to dramatically improve a Bobcats team that finished 21-61 last season under Dunlap and is 28-120 over the past two seasons. The Bobcats will almost certainly lean on Ewings expertise as a former centre to help develop the low post games of Byron Mullens and Bismack Biyombo. Charlotte hasnt had a true dominant centre and general manager Rich Cho said earlier this off-season the team will be looking to "add bigs" to the roster. Ewing, a native of Kingston, Jamaica, was an 11-time NBA All-Star and the leagues Rookie of the Year in 1986. In college, he helped Georgetown to the NCAA Division I national championship in 1984 and was named the Naismith College Player of the Year in 1985.
