Ronnie OSullivan closed in on a record-equalling fourth Welsh Open title by beating Joe Perry 6-3 in the semi-finals. The Rocket will meet Neil Robertson on Sunday for the trophy and £60,000 first prize at Cardiffs Motorpoint Arena.Five-time world champion OSullivan already has three Welsh crowns to his name and victory would see him match the record of four held by John Higgins. After taking a break from competitive snooker for the first few months of the season, OSullivan has been nearly flawless in 2016, winning his last 18 matches. He captured the Masters crown in January and now stands on the brink of his 28th ranking title, which would match the tallies of Higgins and Steve Davis.Perry had chances in the opening frame, but when he missed the penultimate red OSullivan stepped in with a 41 clearance to snatch it.The players then had to take an unscheduled interval due to a technical problem backstage which prevented television broadcast of the early stages.Once the cameras were rolling, Perry warmed up with an excellent 139 clearance to level. OSullivan regained the lead with a 124 before Perry squared with a run of 92. Neil Robertson set to go head-to-head with OSullivan for Welsh glory But he could do little against a barrage of high scoring after the interval as OSullivan fired in 101, 94 and 88 breaks to go 5-2 ahead.Perry capitalised to pull one back, but OSullivan cracked in a long red and cleared with 78 to book his place in the final. In the past three or four years I have been expressing myself and produced the same type of snooker I played when I was 14 or 15, OSullivan told World Snooker. Now its about my legacy and leaving a mark on the game. Not so much in terms of titles, but in the way that I play. I like to think Ive played snooker that no one else has.The matches are getting harder but I felt I scored well tonight.Neil is like RoboCop. I watched him throughout the UK Championship and he never showed any emotion. Hes like Steve Davis or Stephen Hendry in that respect.Robertson had earlier stayed on course for his third title in four months by beating Mark Allen 6-4. The AFL and Western Bulldogs have hit back at a report raising questions about the leagues handling of the investigation into the Talia brothers late last year.It was claimed that then Bulldogs defender Michael gave intimate tactical information to his brother Daniel at Adelaide before the Crows defeated the Dogs in the elimination final at the MCG.The Herald Sun reported on Monday that the AFL champions were angry about the leagues handling of the probe and its exoneration of the brothers. The AFL branded Mondays article unfair to all concerned parties. The Australian Football League stands by the investigation conducted in the 2015 post-season period, and its decision, and notes that the Western Bulldogs have accepted the outcome, a statement read.In this matter, the AFL received numerous submissions and conducted a broad range of interviews. The documents made public today are only one side of the story, and their publication is unfair to all parties involved. The AFL reiterates that the Western Bulldogs acted appropriately in reporting the matter. The report said that president Peter Gordon, on behalf of the Bulldogs, had contacted the AFL questioning the finding as they had independent corroboration of the allegations. The Talias, who have always maintained their innocence, were cleared by the AFL last November after a 63-day integrity unit investigation.Gorddon said while he felt the investigation had some bumps in the road, the Bulldogs had accepted the outcome.ddddddddddddTheyve ultimately made a decision that we accept and weve moved on, Gordon told SEN radio. We have a great deal of faith (in the AFL) and these things will always test the processes but we believe the competition is in good hands and everyone did the best they could ultimately. The Bulldogs condemned the newspaper and said it had presented one side of the investigation and would seek legal advice about the use of the documents. We didnt provide them, we didnt agree to them publishing them, Gordon said.Theyre confidential documents and were pretty disappointed that theyve seen the light of day.Its our side of the story; we dont have the power that the AFL have got to go and see the other side and hear their version.I dont think it serving anyones interest to be rehashed.Meanwhile, Daniel Talia asked for his familys privacy to be respected with his grandfather in poor health. The Crows star posted an emotional message on Instagram. At the moment my family is going through something bigger than football so I ask that everyone please respect our privacy as my inspiration and my Pa Harvey fights his own battle, Talia wrote.
